hows the film program?

Food in IV is amazing. I’m actually not a vegan anymore but more of a “I-eat-what-I-Want”-ian (but if your into labels, i’m a veghead)

Anyways, the best thing about IV is the attention to the local businesses. I still find it amazing that there are truly only three big corp food places here (Subway, Starbucks, and Dominos)…other than that, it is very local.

TONS of mexican food, a local food co-op, Vietnamese, the standard for health lovers is Silvergreens, sushi, etc etc.

Yep, and living at the end of the 6500 block of Picasso, it was great to be able to walk to all these places and never have to get into my car to have a wide range of food options available.

I just read in the Nexus that the ice skating rink is slated to open by the Camino Real Marketplace next year:

[Locals Await Ice Rink Opening - Daily Nexus](http://www.dailynexus.com/article.php?a=20434)

That would have been cool to have while I was there. That cuts down on the places lacking in Santa Barbara that I wished were there, although a Target store [may be coming](http://targetsantabarbara.org/location.html) to Goleta soon, and a miniature golf course may be built at the long term airport parking lot (to the right of the Target plot) once the airport builds new parking.

haha i love [Only in IV |](http://onlyiniv.com/)
can’t wait to start here this fall =]
but @rc251 i gotta question the point about UCSB being the most diverse UC?
i heard that UCSB is one of the least diverse UCs because of how little the percentages of minorities are compared to the others?

*i heard that UCSB is one of the least diverse UCs because of how little the percentages of minorities are compared to the others? *

That’s not really true… See here:

http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2009/froshsirs_table3.pdf

Outside of the bottom 2 ranked UCs (UC Merced and UC Riverside), UCSB has the highest rate of under-represented minorities in the UC system at 30.0% (look at the second to last column). Compare this to Berkeley (15.5%) and Irvine (18.2%) for example.

The UCSB administration has made an extra push in the past 5 years or so to get more under represented minorities into UCSB. Hispanics, Af. Americans and such.

I graduated in 09, and I really liked the mix of people we had. I belong to a minority group and I didn’t feel like a minority at all, from my experience everyone was very friendly and inclusive at SB.

All of you who are going to SB, you better enjoy every second of it. The late night study sessions, spending nights in the library (RBR), the parties in IV, Free birds nachos, going down town on Thursday nights on Bill’s bus, the beach, soccer and basketball games, Halloween and the rest are generic stuff that you will get to experience in any college. What I mentioned above is the extra stuff that only UCSB has to offer.

Work your ass off and have fun.

Ughhhh I cannot wait!
Trust me, I’ve been dreaming of goin to this school for three years. And it’s SOO close now.
The fall cannot come any sooner.
As my friend Chloe, a curent freshmen at ucsb, said to me the other day, “you’re gonna love you life”.

@greenlash: haha thats awesome!! Make sure you add academic discipline to the mix, your freshmen year is the key. How well you do in your freshmen year will translate well into later years.

@SWHarborfan: Thank you.

If you want to talk to a bunch of people who LOVED being Gauchos, visit SB during Alumni Weekend on April 24-25, coming up in just a few weeks.

LOVE this thread for pointing out all the great things about UCSB - the school itself, the social atmosphere, the work hard-play hard attitude (many nights of “library til 9:30 then DT for the night!”), the surrounding area, shopping/dining on State Street, hiking, beach/water activities (surfing, kayaking, etc.)… it’s all wonderful!

And - gotta love happy hour at Gio’s… or sandwiches/pitchers/people watching on sunny afternoons.

omg <3
the next few months need to go faster =]

I just wanted to let you guys know that the biggest fanboy on the UCSB is going back to Isla Vista tomorrow! As sweenebean mentioned, it’s Alumni weekend, and I booked my direct flight from Sacramento to Santa Barbara (thanks Alaska Air for temporarily losing my luggage a few years ago and giving me a nice gift certificate in return :)) My few remaining friends who are still undergrads are graduating this year so this might be the last time I visit for a while (unless UCSB makes the College Cup this year!)

Definitely stopping by Freebirds, the beach, downtown, Naan Stop, campus to see the new buildings, and probably a bunch of other places. Last time I was here was during Halloween Here’s a photo of me (I’m in the center), if you’ve seen Watchmen you will realize how awesome me and my friends’ coordinated costumes were:
