^^I don’t think everyone shares your concern. I hook up my iphone to my computer via USB and I can copy every photo and then do whatever I want with them.

I would like to see the icloud system work more like MSFT OneDrive, drop box, or google drive so I can access my docs whenever and store Word files. But not a problem, since I have not only OneDrive on my iphone, I have a fairly robust Office Suite. Incidentally, I’ve become a OneDrive fanboy. It’s well integrated with Office, plus I don’t have to deal with some goofy proprietary file format as foisted on is by Google Drive.

Still very happy with my iPhone 5S plus Mophie. I can’t tell you what a gift that Mophie is for people with ADD. It almost doubles battery life without my ever having to think about charging or carrying an external battery.

The soft SIM will be more useful in the USA than abroad. Buying one or more local SIM is a cinch abroad and one can manage different networks and pricing. Some are really cheap but slower. I like that flexibility.

The sale of locked phones should really be prohibited in the USA as it does cripple phones such as the iPhone. Inasmuch as carrier and network can be reloaded by ATT, its current application under IOS8 has not worked well as the phone reverts to automatic selection on the iPhone 6. A real PITA.

Overseas phones are usually open. The U.S. is way behind in communications.

Hanna, I have an extended battery case also.
I had Mophie for my iphone4, but for my 5 I went a little cheaper, and bought from Maxboost.
I think it also is a more powerful battery.

Re ipads and sim cards, if I replace my cellular data ipad 2, I’ll probably going with wifi only. I have an ATT plan that allows me to use my phone as a hot spot so I’d save on the tablet price and a data plan. I always have my phone and I see no speed loss on the iPad when using the iPhone hotspot.

Incidentally, the price drop for the last generation iPad mini 2 with wifi and 16gb looks attractive at $299. The only difference with the ipad mini 3 appears to be $100 for fingerprint sensor and slightly better battery life.

Any updates on the good, bad and ugly of the iPhone 6? H’s phone is having battery draining issues and my iphone is acting increasingly sluggish, so we’re considering moving toward another phone. Haven’t decided yet whether we will switch to a Windows, android or stick with iPhone. Any thoughts are welcome.

We’ve had our iphone 5 for 2 years and are also considering switching carriers as well.

Wasn’t there a recall on the batteries of certain IPhone 5 phones? Perhaps your husband’s phone is part of that. If so, Apple will replace the battery at no cost.

I know more than several people who had this issue, and the new free battery cleared it all up.

H took it to the store and they said his phone wasn’t be of the covered ones, tho S’s was and the free replacement battery he got from istore really helped. Mine seems ok and isn’t on the battery recall list either. Believe D’s phone is one the list of those who are eligible for free replacement battery too, but not sure. She hasn’t yet taken her phone in.

S and GF (who happens to be on our family plan, long story) went and upgraded their iPhone 4 to a 5s and 6 yesterday. We have 5 G’s of data on our plan for 6 of us. We’ve come close a few times to exceeding but have always managed. This morning - the morning after they got their phones - we got a message saying we have used 75% of our data for the month. Within 2 hours, we had two more messages - 90% and all data used. WHAT?! Son was here at home in our wireless - his GF was using a couple of apps at work but that was ridiculous!!! S ended up getting on the phone with Verizon and after much determination, got them to waive any overage for this month. We had been paying $70 for 4G +1G free - now we will pay $80 for 10G +1G for a total of 11G - sure hope this works out!

I feel like this thread addressed this earlier - what’s the deal with the newer phones and the data usage!? I’m afraid to upgrade MY phone now!!

Also, who has unlimited data on their plan and what type of fees (if you’re willing to share) do you pay for unlimited data - we hate to pay it but with 6 on the plan, are seriously considering it.

There’s a cellular setting that shows how much data an app has used. I’d suggest checking that. Then I’d suggest going through the setting in more detail and seeing which apps really need cellular - e.g., I turned off Groupon because it used a lot of data and I can connect using wifi to update it less frequently. Location services is another.

I’d also go to the website of your provider to see what data is being used on what line. I found two things with a kid: one was downloading podcasts and other was downloading music to play from the cloud. The first was fixed by me saying: download it at your home and synch it to your phone. The second was more: don’t do that. If there’s a cloud symbol next to track, it’s going to play from the cloud so only do that on wifi.

For those of you that have the iPhone 6 and have used it for a while, is it worth it? Particularly if you had the 5S before. I have a iPhone 4S that is eligible for an upgrade and am deciding between the 5S (32G) or the extra cost of the 6 (64G). Definitely need the extra gigs since I don’t even have enough space to upgrade operating system to iOS 8. The larger screen is enticing for these aging eyes but want it to fit in my back pocket with a lifeproof cover on it. There are some rumors that the battery on the iPhone 7 will be replaceable which is enticing. (BTW way down the rabbit hole with several iOS products so Android-based products aren’t a viable alternative.) Thanks for any feedback.
If you want to upgrade but don’t have enough space on your phoe to do so, you can do what H did–hook your phone to your computer via the USB cable and upgradae your IOS. It worked for me without having to remove any apps and is fine.
