Did you order the new iPhone?

The only thing that worked against Samsung in my case was the sensitivity of the touch screen. For some reason, my fireproof fingers do not seem to work as well on their screens as on Apple’s. MSFT surface was fine, so that was a major pro for me, too. Sorry, Samsung, you have to cater to hard core chemists and chefs…

LasMa- the “prestige” of having an iPhone? Really? That’s certainly not how it’s viewed in my part of the world! People make their choices based on features, availability of apps, trust in the technology and sometimes price. My iPhone 5 screen didn’t seem at all postage stamp sized and was plenty big for most uses. When it wasn’t, I used my iPad. It will be nice to have the larger screen on the 6, but the sacrifice is less ease of sticking it in pockets, running with it etc.

My kids expected me to be up to order for the family. I couldn’t get up at 3am, the best I could do was 4am. I didn’t have any problem log in to ATT and was able to place my orders with ease. The scary part was when D1’s order confirmation came in and I had to wait for few hours for mine. I was wondering if they’ve lost my order.

DS#1 switched to an android, and for a while was not able to participate in a group text chat. That was frustrating, especially when he was trying to tell us some exciting news. I think he gave his Iphone 5 to his fiancee.

I looked on our account-- amazing how little talk time the “kids” have, but thousands of texts. And a lot of data used

My husband has a MotoX. The rest of us have iPhones. We have no trouble sending him photos or text messages, or email. He likes his phone, and we like ours.

I will say…his google girl has outstanding voice activation…hands free. Wish Siri was the same. (And if I don’t have my 5s set up and it can do this…let me know what to do!)

Thats the same phone DS has. The issue was only trying to participate in group texts with iphone users, and because of where he works and the relationship with Apple employees and internal beta testing of other features and such, when they encounter a problem they send messages to get these glitches fixed. So… you’re welcome!!

Forgot to add, I hate siri. Contstantly makes mistakes. easy to use google voice activation-- just select the google app and hit the microphone- and talk away. I do this often when getting addresses or building locations-- siri always gets it wrong and google voice gets it right.

Siri is a bit like the voice-activated navigation in my car. When you’re really bored on a long drive, try to get it to do something. Hilarity ensues as the software doesn’t understand a word you say, but misunderstands in funny ways.

I have an iphone 4s and will probably order a 6 soon (since my power button is no longer working well). There are professional reasons that my family is in the Apple ecosystem (except for my daughter, who broke free: long live freedom!). But Siri is another Apple embarrassment.

Ixnay…I don’t have hands free calling Bluetooth in my car (please don’t get me going on that). I can receive calls using a button on my steering wheel…but I can’t press a button and say “call so-and-so”.

My husband has a MotoX. He just tells the google girl to call me…hands free…just the phone…and she does it.

For me to use Siri in my car, I need to either hold the phone to my ear, or press the home button.

You can do that with the iphone using siri-- when she understands correctly.

Siri is the perfect representation of Apple. She is breathtakingly beautiful but annoying. Great to look at but dumb and lazy. Beyond the eye candy she is stubborn and limited.

So what am I doing wrong? My iphone5s doesn’t respond via Siri unless I have it to my ear, or press the home button. Not voice only!

You Have to touch the button and the microphone comes on In fact I used it to dictate this message.

You have to press the home button until it goes ding, unless you go into settings/General/Siri and flip that option on. I only wish I could say “ET phone home” but it won’t unless I drop the ET.

I haven’t noticed any meaningful difference in performance between Siri & Google. There are differences but they don’t seem material to me.

Re: the same phones my kids/family have. LOL. Both kids have dumb phones and H has no phone. I’d be the trailblazer when/if I get a smart phone.

One good side thing with new iPhone models being released is that more older iPhones are being dumped on resale market. Nice used iPhone 5’s can be bought outright for only about $200 now…no 2 year contract or monthly installment payments required!

http://glyde.com/buy/used-iphone

Lergmom…so I can get Siri to be activated without touching the phone…using a voice command? How? I’ve searched and searched for a setting to do so…the best I’ve gotten is turning on the feature test allows me to activate by voice IF I have the phone to my ear…and that does work. But not such a great idea when I’m driving!!

I am selling my 5s to Gazelle for $275, so that’ll pay for my new phone.

Cheapest iPhone 6 sells for about $650 outright. $275 is ‘downpayment’ with carrier contract.

AT&T sent me two text messages this morning to let me know my order was being processed; I only order one phone! What I don’t know is if these phones are all shipped from Apple, or if AT&T is shipping their own orders. I had my shipped to the office so someone would be there to sign for it; if it arrives on Saturday, our building is closed.

My daughter convinced me to go with the gold since it is cooler, although she did say silver is more me. I am not rethinking my choice in color and size; I went with the 16 since there was no 32, but wondering if I should have gotten the 64. Too late now as once that phone is in my hands, I am not going to any store to swap!! My current phone seems to not want to connect anything but phone calls lately; perfect timing for a new phone.
