<p>Exactly. Single rooms and apartments are not typically available to freshman (I believe this is or is close to the precise language they use). However, if space is available, freshman can be assigned to these.</p>
<p>I think some upperclassmen students chose to dorm this year due to the rate saver option (continuing students are able to pay the 2009-2010 rates instead of the 2010-2011 rates if they are housed in a dorm) so that has probably opened up some apartment spaces that normally would have been taken. I took this option myself since it’s saving me $900 staying in a dorm single instead of an apartment single ;)</p>
