Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

1 mile, didn’t feel very good but done. I’ll have to make up the other two later this week.

2325 calories, 54% carbs, 55 g sugars. A very bad day nutritionally but I didn’t have a lot of good options. We always run out of protein around Thursday despite me being on a low-carb diet (I’ve told my wife this many times over the years). I usually pick up chicken, fish, and/or beef on Wednesday or Thursday but the storm killed this for this week. I better pick up a tub of Greek Yogurt tomorrow.

It’s definitely a full-body workout. Pulling, pushing, throwing, carrying, lifting and it gets your heart rate up pretty quickly.

I must say, they brought in the heavy artillery to clear the snow from the parking area behind my condo. I didn’t think the usual pickup truck plow that makes the rounds was going to be able to clear this. So, we had a visit from one of these this afternoon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=ng3b4m8U1n0

Very impressive. This thing moved a LOT of snow. The pile between cars, where two of us had been piling the snow from our decks was up to the roof of the car.

I was eating my words about not getting a foot of snow. The “official” number for my town was 22 inches.

First day at gym since Wednesday. Work and weather got in the way.

Reached my current goal of 60 min on the elliptical, interval program.
Pretty happy about that, only 2 months into exercising regularly.
I’ll be satisfied staying at that duration. Still need to control my food better.
Bad habit of eating from stress instead of hunger.

1 1/2 hours of cross country skiing
Beautiful spring skiing conditions, just loving the sunshine.

That’s a great goal reached already MusicMom! 60 mins is a long time on one machine - how do you pass the time - 40-45mins or so is my limit on a machine - even with music I get bored!

Happy to get away from the inside today with a February run outside - only had 30 mins or so of time to afford but got 2 miles in.

Blank mind- I have the raspberry 1.5s, too. I like the color but it is bad with my orange jacket!

5.6 miles this morning up on the mountain. Beat the rain but not the wind. 40.2 mile week.

Snow shoeing for me. 3.3 miles through the woods and along the lake at the Audubon Center. 1 hour 50 minutes.

The parking lot and the overflow parking were full as this is THE local destination for cross country skiing and snow showing. Just fabulous: fresh snow, deep blue sky, mid 30 temps. I took off a layer before I even started. Just wore a along sleeve tech shirt and my [fancy new power stretch fleece jacket](<a href=“Marmot: Outdoor Clothing & Gear Made for Adventure”>Marmot: Outdoor Clothing & Gear Made for Adventure).

Deep snow, but well packed snow shoe and ski trails for easy going. I can’t imagine nicer conditions. The lake was frozen and one couple had just snow shoed a mile across it to the point at the Audubon Center.

Good exercise and so much fun. I’m slowly getting a little more comfortable on the snow shoes.

Gym workout:
DBs
pushups
stationary bike
elliptical

Checked out a new gallery today. Eclectic collection. That was fun.

abasket- the individual TV on each machine works for me.
I find some Law and Order or Mentalist or such on TNT and it keeps my mind off the torture!
Big improvement from my last gym a few years ago where everyone shared several Tvs, always tuned to sports of some kind! THAT didn’t work for me.

We just had a kitchen disaster at our house. The wonderful leftover chicken cacciatore (sp?) slipped from husband’s grasp and hit the floor bigtime. Red sauce ALL over the floor, cabinets and walls. Yikes. There is no 5 second rule in my kitchen so chicken went in the garbage.
Tuna and soup instead. Sigh.

^^^^bummer! And what a mess to clean up.

Very true about the shared tv’s. If I get to a TV first I just put CNN on.

How true this is! I like the saying: “If you think one minute goes by quickly, you’ve never been on a treadmill”.

After 20-30 minutes on any machine I am ready to jump out of my skin.

idad, the snowshoeing in your winter wonderland sounds wonderful!
musicmom, oh no!!!

Another beautiful day here today, sunny and probably 75 degrees with a nice breeze. H and I walked a brisk 3.5 miles. Heard a set of bald eagles through the cypress trees, saw and heard a group of noisy sand hill cranes.

75 degrees…that sounds SOOOOOOO good - and perfect!

I gotta get back on the wagon tomorrow morning. I think Wednesday was the last day I worked out and my workouts last week were both pretty weak. Had a busy last several days.

Since the treadmill taught me it was in charge we’ve been good. Tip: if an item unexpectedly drops onto the treadmill, be sure to turn it off before reaching down to pick up said item. Unless you like adding scars for the sake of war stories.

P.S. I didn’t look nearly as cute riding off the back of the treadmill as the cat in that YouTube video does.

idad- thank you. I think I need a very solid bench so I will looking into the one you linked. I will get the trap bar since I agree with you on the deadlifts. I think I will look at the steps also. All are fairly inexpensive.

I am going to have to think about the jungle gym. Not sure if I will use it. I will talk to my wife about those- see if she can incorporate them in her training sessions she does at her clients houses.

I’m jealous iDad.

I thought of MOWC today when two young whipper-snappers went jogging past me, on snowshoes. I would be bent over panting like a dog… if I didn’t fall down, first.

Higher carbs today, in part because of the kimchi and the chicken apple sausages. Weird combo, I know.

Cals 1400
Fat 102 g
Carbs 63g
Fiber 9g
Protein 62 g
Sugars 22 g

My nephews take their snowshoes and climb up to the tops of mountains - the kind of hiking that was whipping I-Dad’s butt this summer. They claim it’s almost easier in snow shoes. My lower back and butt hurt I assume from yesterday’s shoveling. It’s annoying, but I’m pretty sure it will feel fine in a day or two. I did very wimpy kettle ball swings, but I did 41 of them, along with the squats and pushups that aren’t nearly as much a strain on the back. Also went to the gym and did the usual routine.
