Wrist flexion. Epicondilytis is inflammation of the wrist flexor tendon origin which is the medial epicondyle.

Looking at some videos of the reverse hyper weights, it makes me cringe to see the way these guys load on the weight and then jerk the weight while lifting. Maybe I’m off base, but I really trying to move whatever weight I’m using with smooth, controlled motions. If I can’t do that, then I’m probably using too much weight.

iPod nazi has had me doing these stability ball back extensions from the very first workout – as shown in this video with the feet against the wall, legs straight, very steady smooth motion. This exercise drove me nuts at first trying to get the breathing rigth with my belly on the ball. Now that I’ve got that figured out, I love it. It’s like the feel-good opposite of the kind of sore lower back you get standing at a kitchen counter or washing dishes.

Go to YouTube and search for this video. And no, ladies, this is not me in the video!

iPod nazi also has me do crunches on a stability ball, emphasizing the importance of full extension of the back around the ball. The extension part of this feels great. Search for this video title.

I was thinking about all you guys this morning as I walked 2.7 miles. Wished I had some company (besides Tim McGraw on the IPod). Didn’t feel as uncomfortable on the hamstring as Tuesday’s walk, but was tight at the end. Last night I did 40 minutes on the Precor arc-thingy, 1 mile walk on the dreadmill and 5 minutes on the stationary bike. My HR gets up there nicely on the Precor. Watched some of Wheel of Fortune. I’m pretty good at that! Wonder if I can quit my day job…

If you guys can handle looking at this guy one more time, here’s the reverse hyper exercise on the stability ball. Search for this YouTube title:

I am on an exercise hiatus. DH and I both have some kind of really nasty flu. I have been in bed for two days. Low grade fever, aching all over, difficulty breathing. Honestly, I am wondering if it swine flu - not that it matters what kind it is. I haven’t been this knocked out in a very long time. DH’s got it first and is now doing much better.

Oh no WIP…feel better soon! Sounds like you should get yourself to a doc for a look. Now I feel guilty cranking about my elbow and back.

Thanks for the suggestions though…that back book looks interesting but is quite expensive. I will take a break from crunches and weight lifting. When I go back, I’ll do it more slowly too. That McGill guy hates crunches so I’ll try some of the other exercises he recommends (found a cool video on the NYtimes site). IDAD…I will wait till I feel better before I look at those videos of yours.

We’re off for the weekend…plan to do LOTS of biking. Will probably include Harpers Ferry as one of our destinations. I may have new earrings in my future!

Oops what was I thinking. Yes, wrist flexion, not elbow flexion. RH is usually used pretty improperly with too much weight. A fast concentric and a controlled eccentric with your abs braced is the way to do it, or it might cause further back problems instead of being therapeutic. Give Louie Simmons a call and mention the RH, he’ll probably talk to you for an hour.

Yeah I would definitely recommend staying away from crunches. I lift competitively now and nothing causes my back to feel like its going to pop the next minute than situps and crunches.

Worked out this morning 50 minutes on bike and then 5 minute cooldown. It was so hot and humid in the gym today! Made things harder for me. I am tired today. My eating is off due to my cold congestion so maybe I can blame it on that! Going grocery shopping in a little bit and will try to get healthy foods…I am pretty good about this except for bread, my weakness. (and a little glass of red wine in the evenings! ;))

Bunsen…WOW! Size 0!!!Congrats! My goal is to get back in a sz 8…I think I can, I think I can…

NM - no way I’m a size 0. RL is shamelessly trying to decieve us! A famous Italian maker says I’m a size 6, which is more or less believable. When I started out, I was size 6-8 according to RL, and I was skeptical whether I would see any weight reduction as a result of exercising and eating less bread. Apparently, it worked! I’m absolutely sure that you can drop a few sizes, too, NM! Just watch that white bread, and you’ll be fine! However, a glass of wine is perfectly fine once in a while; it is my occasional low calorie treat - a glass of wine has only 80-110 calories depending on its sugar and alcohol content!

I’m debating whether I sould exercise today - I had dental surgery and I’m not a happy camper at the moment (yet prefer dental surgeries to fillimg out tax forms). So please pardon my typos. :)

BunsenBurner, if you’re now a size 0 and you lose weight, will you have to go into the negative sizes? ;)

and the clothes become free…or maybe the store pays YOU money to take them

LOL, VH - I’ll be doomed because I’ll have to shop in the toddlers’ department (because I do not have the big bucks to spend on Italian-made designer duds) - So my plan is to build up more muscle!

Just got back from my walk. I didn’t sweat too bad for a fat guy. 52 degrees, brisk little breeze, blue sky, walking down by the river. Nice way to exercise.

I didn’t cut my time, but my average and peak heart rates were down 5% and the hills were noticeably easier. The cooler temps may have something to do with that.

Well, if you don’t want to wear size -2 in pants, you’ll need to get more muscle in your tushy!!

I sometimes wake up feeling hung over, when I’ve had no alcohol to drink the night before. This seems to happen when I’ve had a very busy day the day before. Is what I’m feeling actually dehydration?

Most likely.

My body has gotten pretty sensitive to dehydration the past few years. That dry mouth, fuzzy head hung over feeling is what I get the following morning if I don’t take in enough fluids during the day - and I rarely touch alcohol anymore. While I enjoy the occasional adult beverage, for some reason my body just doesn’t process alcohol very well at all anymore!

I’ve got a very good mileage week going so far, and ahead of pace for my monthly goal. The weather is looking nice today, could be a good day to push it a little harder. I don’t have a river to walk along, but do get lake glimpses along the way, which is always a nice treat.

I did not want to work out this morning. Thank heavens I meet a friend at the gym so I forced myself to go and I am glad I did. Walked for a little over an hour on the treadmill for a little over three miles. I feel so much better and no pain in the knee. Yay!

I roll out of bed and go to the gym and am starving after I work out. How many eat before they work out? I usually have a bowl of cereal and fruit or a multigrain low cal English muffin and veggie “sausage” patty for breakfast after I get home. Better to eat before or after???

Working out after not eating in the morning forces the body to burn fat. Having said that, I can’t imagine that it’s a great idea to workout with absolutely no fuel. I would think you’d want at least a piece of fruit or something beforehand. Maybe some of our runners know?

An hour on the treadmill! Way to go. Not bad, after not wanting to exercise today!

That’s why I’m hesitant to break my schedule. I don’t want to be in a position of deciding whether or not to exercise today. I just want to look at the day of the week and know that it’s either an exercise day or not.

No walk today. It’s sleeting here. Good grief.
