Went to dinner with visiting relatives (Spring Break) last night and just split a bowl of noodles with my daughter and some General Tso’s chicken. Then had some Matzos with peanut butter and pesto last night and went to bed.

1515 calories at 55% carbs. Not pretty.

I was able to fit into my 31 jeans this morning and that was with long underwear on so that’s nice. My sisters told me that I looked good too (getting compliments from relatives is a relatively rare thing). It’s a nice, warm day so I went with my LL Bean vest instead of the usual mid-layer. The vest is nice but I think that I’m more of an EMS cut than an LL Bean cut these days - there’s a lot of extra space around the middle. It’s comfortable and has the right pockets so I’ll live with it unless I spot a nice sale.

It does really feel like spring these days (colder temps return tomorrow), and I’m looking forward to going outside once we get more consistent high-50s and 60s weather.

That iPod would be great for aqua-jogging (fingers crossed that I don’t have to do that anytime soon). BCE- congrats on the 31 jeans and compliment.

Cold and dark this morning- 35 degrees. I’m ready for spring. I barely got up in time for 2 miles, so will do the main run after work. Last night I got caught at work and didn’t get to run before I got home, so had to use the knuckle lights for a 3 miler. The streak continues…

Day two of Dr. Oz Detox and Cleanse. Yesterday was easy day. No hunger at all. In fact, I couldn’t eat/drink the 4th shake/drink as I was too full. No headaches or fatigue. These drinks are loaded with fruit and veggies so more carbs/sugar than I am used to. The fats come from coconut oil, flax seeds, avocado and almond butter. Down 2 lbs. This is an interesting experiment.

Only walked 2 miles yesterday. Trying to find a happy medium. The increase in my walking this past month has greatly benefitted my bad back but aggravated my bad knee. I may have to try the recumbent bike and see if I can alternate days.

The guys at our Y come in for socializing as much as getting exercise. That said, most of them also go and do their 1/2 hour of cardio. And the fireman, oh my goodness, he’s the gabbiest of the bunch, but he swims and runs every day on top of all the weights he does.

Yesterday was a sort of a day off, so I did 60 pushups, 60 swings and 45 goblet squats spread out over most of the day. I also did two sets of the Rachel exercise A, except I never got around to doing the deadlifts. Oh and I tried out carrying a 15 lb. kettleball and 20 lb. kettleball around the house for a farmer’s walk. Not sure they are heavy enough to do whatever it is they are supposed to do. I got bored long before I got tired.

They are very popular in Asia. I don’t know if you can get their process in the US yet. I assume that you could just take your device, put it through the process and then just use it. I’m very careful with electronics so I don’t think that I’d need something like this but it might be nice to have for some people that are exposed to water more than I am.

BTW, it’s pretty amazing reading about sub-1,000 calorie reports on a regular basis.

I have the ipod nano version that fits on a watchband. I figured it is the perfect size to get waterproofed.
Cause no matter how well it reportedly works there is no way I am putting my iPhone in the pool on purpose.
My daughter encouraged me to sign up for her EveryMove team for more encouragement.
I don’t have a tracking device like FitBit, but she messages me after every workout. ( probably cause I am helping her win prizes)
<a href=“FitnessSyncer.com: Not found”>FitnessSyncer.com: Not found;

The interesting thing about Nanos is that they make them, then change the design considerably and then getting a new copy of the old style is difficult. I have the older style with the video camera in the back (I think that it’s the only Nano with the video camera) and you can play wide-screen videos on it though I think that current Nanos can do this too. I still like the click-wheel though I haven’t tried the touch-screen versions. Bluetooth is nice too for wireless headsets.

I’d never use my iPhone while working out either unless it was stationary. I’ve used it on the treadmill with the iPhone on a desk or something but I wouldn’t wear it and run. I’ve seen too many phones go flying off treadmill decks.

I was tempted to get one of those. I think that I would have if it had Bluetooth as you could wear it on your wrist and run with a wireless headset. Wouldn’t have to worry about pockets at all. For some reason, there are lots of mens shorts produced that don’t have any external pockets at all. They have little flimsy pockets on the inside but I don’t like things poking into me while I’m running.

For workout stuff, I just clip the nano to my waistband in the back center. It’s a broad, flat clip. The only time I’ve ever noticed it is doing [hip lifts](<a href=“Single Leg Hip Lifts - YouTube”>Single Leg Hip Lifts - YouTube).

Getting headphones with volume and pause controls has been a big help, especially with winter clothes. I can bury the iPod in an inside pocket and never have to fish it out.

4 easy miles today. It’s sunny and warm, and a great day to be out for a run. I did the first 3 miles at 145-ish, and then ran the last mile at fun speed. I like this!

A mixed workout day for me. I walked two miles this morning and will add two more tonight with H. I also went to the gym where I had only planned to warm up on the elliptical machine. What timing; I saw on my little tv screen that white smoke was pouring out of the Sistine Chapel, so I thought I’d continue my warm-up with the lowest level on the machine until the new pope was announced. Yikes, it took a long time, during which my warm-up went on and on. I finally moved over to a treadmill for some slow walking. Finally the doors opened and I continued with:

Planks
Side planks, modified
Split Squat, front foot elevated on step
Inverted row on the Smith machine
Romanian deadlift (bar on cable machine)
Push-ups (hands elevated on bench)
Alternating cable squat rotation
Rainbow with a 4 lb medicine ball

I got the first bunch of exercises out of *The New Rules of Lifting for Abs/i and the last two out of Dara Torres’ Gold Medal Fitness–both books from the library. Ms. Torres is quite the inspiration for abdominal fitness, at least for this non-youngster mom.

4.3 mi stationary bike
bicep curls
military press
tricep kickbacks
rows
pushups (hands on bench)
inverted rows (yay, no plates still on the bar on the smith machine)
1 mi treadmill run

I checked out the abs book when VH recommended it recently, but my H has absconded with it. He liked the TNT book, trying to remember if it’s by the same author, and ended up buying that one. Maybe Volek?

First good workout in a week. Went to the beginner yoga class for 90 minutes (15 minutes is shavasana–lying on your back at the end of the class). Followed this with a 4 mile walk on the treadmill. Plantmom–we must have been walking at the same time, because the only reason I kept walking on the treadmill was that I wanted to see the new Pope come out–you’re right, it took a long time!

5.2 miles. My average this year is 3.78 miles per day. I’m trying to get it up to four but it’s quite hard to move your average if you’ve been doing less for a while.

Great info, everyone. I have san-dee’s shuffle in my amazon cart right now and am about to pull the trigger.
Deborah, your workouts are starting to look more and more like mine ;)

Back in the gym today
5 minute treadmill warm up
core stuff
snatches
Romanian deadlifts
front squats
lunges
finished up with several rounds of mountain climbers

Hit up Nike Outlet, UA outlet and Nordstrom rack for some new in-between sizes workout clothes. Totally struck out at UA this time, found some good deals at Nike, including a heavily marked down long sleeve zip top. Struck gold at the Rack: smoking hot deals on Nike and Zella.
Some one also mentioned that Costco had Zella type jackets for around 20 dollars. I may have to check that out. Zella is Nordstrom’s house brand. Their tops in particular are cut well and have good colors, I find. I just don’t like to pay retail.

Good 5 mile run after work. It was chilly- 42 but it felt chillier with the wind. It is going to be in the low 20s in the morning. I’m staying in bed!

CJane, I think I saw those jackets from halfway across the room last time we were at Costco. There was a woman trying one on who looked pretty happy, like she had made a find. I didn’t see the sign above them so I don’t have details.

I’ll make a stop in at The Rack soon. Thanks for the tip (and the compliment ).

A bit more of a normal day though carbs are still a bit higher than I’d like. I cleaned out the car this evening - always an interesting bit of a workout, especially in the dark.
