2 deaths so far.

PlantMom, I’m glad your daughter is okay.

MOWC, I hope your friends are all right.

NRE, I hope you hear from your son soon and that he was not near any of this activity.

Turns out DS did go into Boston, but he was never closer than about a mile away from the finish line and was already on his way out.

The video is pretty disturbing.

NYPost is reporting a suspect has been identified, who is in the hospital with shrapnel wounds. I hope it is true.

Supposedly families of the Newtown victims were in a VIP section 10 feet from where one of the bombs went off. The last mile of the race was dedicated to them.

Horrible.

Glad your son is okay, nre. Just talked to D again, and she said many Cambridge residents are standing outside in the square, getting news updates (devices at Kennedy library, too?), waiting to hear from friends who may have been near the scene. Who would do this? I hope you’re right, and a suspect is in custody.

Local news says that Boston cell service has been shut down as precaution against remote detonation of additional bombs.

A coworker’s son was near the finish line but I’ve heard that he’s okay. I’m planning on driving in to drop my son off this evening. I’ll watch the news to see if there’s any kind of travel ban by car. My sister reported that her husband made it out via the T but that they were closing the station.

Ran 2 miles tonight, the first one in honor of the people of/in Boston today. Whether you choose to walk or jog or run, think of them on your next outing.

To the basement for my usual Monday workout. Had to turn off the TV news and listen to some fitness podcasts, just for a change of pace and a little something uplifting. I DVR’d the Boston Marathon this morning, but I don’t much feel like watching it.

Did some more kettlebell cleans. Still ugly, ugly, ugly, but not quite as ugly as the last time, so I guess that’s progress!

Thanks for asking. It’s going alright. I’m still trying to adjust to having an group than I expected. We’re moving slow, but I think they’re enjoying it so that’s good :)

5 miles on the treadmill.

Glad to hear it’s working out okay, Hops.

Thought some of you might be interested -
Apparently Hoka is the big seller at my local running store.

The report from Dallas’s largest running store (one of the top athletic retailers in the US) is that they can’t keep Hoka and Altra in stock. Interesting! I really believe that cushioning in the Hokas really helps your legs. They are definitely a shoe for forefoot or mid foot strikers. I still love my Brooks Launch, but the wide toe box in Altra and the cushioning in Hoka are SO nice!

5 miles outside. Probably another 3 miles o walking/running helping out at track meet tonight.

Prayers to Boston Marathon victims tonight.

Am still in shock about Boston.

Don’t have t.v., so hadn’t heard until late in the day. Was doing a blissfully unaware 5 mile hiking loop when the news broke.

Hope you enjoyed your hike.

I’m out of the hiking business for a few weeks. Every report sounds like the trails are awful right now. Icy remnants of snow in patches and mud where the snow has melted. A couple of my favorites are even closed (parking lots chained off) for “mud season”. Nothing sounds (or looks) that enticing. Still snow up in the White Mountains. Ice on the mountains farther south.

I am, however, ready for spring. I just got a shipment of every imaginable (and unimaginable) type of bug spray, including the stuff you spray on clothes (hats, socks, gaiters, etc.) to keep the ticks from finding a new home. So, I’ll be picking a nice day to line up a bunch of hiking stuff on the deck and spray it to kingdom come with bug poison.

This will be my first spring hiking in “black fly” season, so we’ll see. I could be on hiking vacation for longer than I hope! I never had a bug problem last year, but I didn’t start 'til around the 4th of July.

Hope all the friends and loved ones of this group are accounted for and sending love to Boston. Can’t even really articulate my rage that this happened - which is probably a good thing, since there’s already enough hate in the world.

Five pound party day here, now down 25 lbs, though at a rate of mere ounces per week the last few weeks. My percentage of muscle continues to increase, according to the new-fangled scale, so I’ll happily take it, however slow this next phase is.

Idad, my own trail is pretty muddy but manageable, so m still hiking despite daily deluge. I too will have to do some tick protection soon enough.

Awesome, KMC. Great work! Nothing wrong with ounces per week - you’re losing weight the right way and to me that is far more important than rapid weight loss (that doesn’t stay off).

I’m just sad and angry today. What a world.

Congratulations, kmc! Excellent.

The running community is spreading the word to wear a race tshirt today- even to work- in honor of the Boston victims. That’s not going to fly for me- even at my business casual workplace, but I have brought out my Boston Marathon jacket. I’ll at least have it with me, even if I don’t wear it all over the office. I put my old Boston Marathon finisher picture from 81 or 82 up on Facebook. I’m pretty sure I still look exactly the same! :)

Good job on the weight loss kmcmom!

I feel so sad about Boston. I immediately thought of MOWC & Bunsen. I’m glad you were not there.

That’s a great gesture MOWC, the tshirts and the picture.
Kmc - score! great job!
