You are right, and I do need to build in some snacks so that I don’t get so hungry between meals that I go home and eat a sleeve of Oreos.

Went back to the trainer this morning after a long-time off–did 45 minutes of TRX. Lots of rows, squats, lunges, chess presses, etc. I can tell that I’m not as strong as I was. Even the trainer said that she was surprised to see that chest presses–which I can do in my sleep–were difficult for me today. Went home after the training session and did a 5-mile walking loop around town. My goal is to get back into a routine of being active and going to the gym 5-7 days a week. Injured ankle seems to be doing fine.

Great streak MOWC!

Lizard, I find as much satisfaction in a cup of drip coffee (with 2% milk, probably under 50 calories) as in a gigantic latte (200-300 calories?). Just the fact that I’m sitting in a cozy chair with a large paper cup in my hand and working on my emails puts me in the I-got-a-Starbucks-treat mood. :)

Kudos to everyone, and special congrats to MOfWC on her mega-streak.
Enjoy your time in BC, MOfWC!

Nice working out everybody! I walked about 5 miles today, but the big exercise came with the scrubbing of part of my concrete driveway using a big push broom and a bleach solution. I worked on it for over an hour, and according to my heart rate monitor, I was up in zone three for about 40 minutes. I would never have guessed. I have blisters on my hands, sunburn on my back, and lucky me–I could do it all over again since there’s plenty of black mildew stain left :(

Weird exercise day. 1.5 milk walk at noon. Cut the grass at 4pm. Was looking forward to running in a new spot, but long story it didn’t work out so by the time I got back home only had time for 2 miles before it got too dark for me to be comfortable.

PlantMom, not to remove an exercise opportunity, but would renting a power washer help? Still some exercise but maybe not so bad?

That’s an exercise opportunity worth passing up!!! Hard work!!! (But the suntan opportunity sounds good!)

Deborah, yes I’m sure a power washer would help, but I had to try the old homemade bleach cleaner and elbow wax first. A construction worker stopped to suggest pool chlorine. No pressure wash required, but I may sacrifice some grass in the process.

I’m back. Showered the DEET off. Ate a big dinner salad.

Terrific hike today. Chippewa Trail to the summit of Black Mountain. This was one of the first hikes I did last year. What a difference a year makes. Half an hour quicker and a max heart rate of 82% compared to 91% the first time around. I’m reading a book on the history of the White Moutains and one of the legendary 19th century trail builders was quoted to the effect that you should hike slow enough that you don’t feel like stopping to rest. A lot of merit to that!

I really enjoyed a couple of steep, but shorter four mile hikes this week. Got back to the campground by five, which meant that I could shower and actually sit by the stream and relax before sunset.

Weather and foliage was terrific. Pretty close to the peak of the fall folliage. Ironically, mountain climbing is the best leaf peeping because much of it is higher elevations than the hardwood trees. But, just driving around the White Mountains this time of year is breathtaking.

Today was blue sky and 72 degrees. What is not to like about being out in the woods on a day like that. I really like the trail today. Very scenic, decent footing (it’s off the beaten track over near the Vermont border). 1500 feet of elevation gain in 1.9 miles, so a pretty good little workout.

Both big hikes this week were on the [52 with a View](<a href=“NH 52 With-A-View - Google My Maps”>NH 52 With-A-View - Google My Maps) list – NH mountains not on the list of 4000 footers, but with good views. Most of them are in the 2500 to 4000 foot range. I’ve done nine of them now.

^Sounds lovely.
Happy 2-year-running-streak Anniversary, MomWc!

Idad, you do single leg deadlifts, right? Would you consider those tricky? I’m debating trying same this am, but have not checked the McGill book for spine shear potential.

Do any of you use any streaming music services for your workouts? I have been playing with an app called Songza which is curated playlists for different moods / activities, though you can like /dislike music and it adjusts, like a Pandora or iHeartRadio.

Lizardly,
"MiamiDAP, you will never swim with me when I tell you this, but I like swimming for nasal lavage when I am sick. A few flip turns, a few backstroke starts, and I can breathe again. "
-Cannot do any of this, I have not been a swimmer, learn to swim by myslef in my 30s and have been swimming since then… very slowly. I can tell one thing though, no need for any fancy stuff, just dunk in a pool and start swimming however you can and…you will not have a pugged up nose…but when you get out, unfortunately it will plug up again. Yesterday I had a great swim, but water was too warm, so I did not have as much benefits for my cough as I would with much colder water. My nose was plugged only for couple days, thanks to whiskey, I think, but I might be wrong.

PG, I sometimes use Pandora or Spotify. I think I have decided that I like Spotify better on my computer when I’m working than the app for workouts. With the new iPhone update you can get iRadio - which sounds Pandora-ish. I haven’t heard much review of iRadio yet.

What’s the diff between Spotify and Pandora?

With Spotify on my computer, I can make playlists to play for free while working. I don’t really understand why, but I can’t play those same playlists off the app even when signed in. Here’s a good comparison of the different services:

Oh look, I’m an angel. No…wait. It’s just my big arms.

Off to South Bend for another run! Take care, all!

Eddie, be an angel and share some of your tips on how you’ve been so successful achieving your goals these last number of weeks. There are plenty of people who love hearing from someone who has BTDT.

This little devil has got to get her act together and go stir up some trouble (or at least get her rear in gear!).

Enjoy PG!!! Hope the weather holds - especially if it is Sunday!!!

I’m pretty much as exhausted as I’ve ever been. Got up at 3:30am yesterday and got to bed at 12:15 am the next day (10:15pm Pacific time). It was a long day and I felt terrible. Woke up at 4 Pacific time- I really am not doing well with time changes (Hawaii should be interesting). Got out in the ark at about 5:45 in Vancouver with my headlamp and headed for the sea wall and then Stanley Park. It was nice, but REALLY dark. I couldn’t enjoy the beautiful view of the skyline as much sine I was having to watch where I was going. A few runners out but not many. Headlamp battery died just about when I didn’t need it as much anymore. Still tired but glad I got to run. 45 degrees. Not what I’m used to, for sure! Cruiser bike ride this afternoon as part of the conference activities.

Best part- went to the HUGE Lululemon mothership store in Vancouver. H even got some shirts. It was really great. Of course, our credit cards were declined until I called and confirmed that it was really me here in Vancouver. This- after an email a few weeks ago saying you no longer needed to notify the bank when you travel.
I got a soft, warm running top and two pairs of leggings/tights.
