I’m not too concerned whether I ever make it to one in the end, although it would be nice!
I can jump up, hang there for a while, and let myself down slowly. That’s something.

Finally back to the gym today and got in 6.23 miles on the dreadmill. Deborah, I’ve definitely seen people going backwards but most of the time they are going pretty slowly. I’m just going to keep on keeping on.

MOWC, I love Phoenix and the only time I’ve been there was in the summer. Yes, it was hot but still a really beautiful area.

Any which way of it, I don’t think I want to try it.
I would say this person looked more like he was jogging in reverse, not walking. Relaxed, like he was comfortable. I don’t know the mph, lol.

Been running for close to a year and a half now and have met various goals, yay.
I see value in the regular workout postings, as I think when we do this it helps us all stick with our various fitness and health efforts and also encourages others who may be considering getting started. My routine is pretty stable and doesn’t make for the most exciting reading, so I may choose to only post every now and again (hassle level on the site can be a little high for my taste at times). Stick with the good work, everyone!

Keep posting, Deborah!

Now I know why my whole body was so tired even though I have not been running much lately, just working intensely and studying:

<a href=“How Intense Study May Harm Our Workouts - The New York Times”>How Intense Study May Harm Our Workouts - The New York Times;

3 miles in clunky clogs. Wonder of it burns more calories??? ;)

Leave tomorrow night so trying to stay up late so I can sleep as I cross the ocean. Guess I should do some exercising!

Safe travels, NMinn! Have a great trip!

Ok all! Suggestions on how to stay fit while I’m traveling to China (will be there for a week, leaving in a little over a week)? Yeah, yeah, pack my sneakers, got it. Hotel has a fitness facility. But how do you deal with the overwhelming tiredness of such a long flight, and staying fit where you are “upside down” time wise?

You’ll probably end up doing so much walking around that exercise will be non-issue.

My problem is I won’t – I am sitting in focus groups for most of the days, and only have 1 true touring day. It’s just hard to motivate yourself to work out when you are so upside down and need to grab your sleep when you can.

All you travelers are making me feel like a boring homebody!!! Hawaii, Paris, China…and here I am stuck in OHIO!!! :)

Safe travels NM and PG!!!

PG, it seems that you often get hours of exercise a day at home - while that might not be possible, hopefully you can carve out 30 mins or so a day on your trip to keep yourself feeling like you are doing SOMETHING! Just try to keep your eating in check as well and you’ll survive a week.

Ditto, abasket!

I did do an hour of polka & waltz last night at dance class. It was pretty aerobic, actually!

pizzagirl- it’s hard to do, and, frankly, sometimes sleep is much more important so you don’t get sick from the exhaustion. Just do what you can. Put the sneakers on and go for a fast walk. Do some exercises with elastic bands in the room if you have some to pack- or pushups.

I know many of you prefer to exercise indoors, but I had a “moment” this morning. I got on the elevator to head down (Phoenix Ritz) to go out and run 2 miles. A woman got on at the gym floor *****ing that there were no free machines! She asked me if there was a path outside. I told her the hotel had a map, and you ran up Camelback until you could cut over to the canal and that it was a safe sidewalk etc. She was intrigued! My thought was - Hey, people, you are in Phoenix in October. It’s 55, dry and sunny outside! What are you doing inside on a machine? I just hope she was warm enough in her little yoga top! :)

Enjoy the moderate temp in Phoenix, MOWC. It’s starting to get a little nippier here. On the plus side, the leaves are fabulous. Where I grew up they didn’t turn.

MOfWC, lol! 55 degrees would be tank top and shorts running weather for me. :)

abasket, I have been to Paris, Stockholm, Moscow, Frankfurt, and even Almaty, but I have never been to Ohio! :)

Really very interesting MOWC. Whether you choose indoor or outdoor doesn’t really matter as long as you are doing, but interesting that for some people exercise IS all about a “gym” setting. I am always happy to know that all three of my kids DO exercise - sometimes in, sometimes out, but that they all partake of parks, sidewalks, trails and any outdoor time as often as possible.

BB, there are some beautiful parts of Ohio, but where I sit, it’s FLAT and not too interesting unless you are in a park or near the water!

Well, the govt shutdown cost me any shot of sneaking in a camping trip to Acadia National Park this fall. The weather forecast is highs of 50, lows of 35, and cloudy for the foreseeable future! :)

PG will air quality be an issue? If not, bring your running shoes and do some exploratory runs. They can just be little short ones. If air quality is an issue, there is the tm, and you could bring exercise DVDs to use. Plenty of time to find DVDs you like. Maybe jump rope? I have packed a jump rope and done that before.

I agree about getting enough rest. We travel a lot. I try to drink lots of water on the plane, and to walk around outside once we land to reset my internal clock. The first run after a long plane ride is sluggish for me. I tr not to worry about it. And I will skip a run if I need sleep more.

Worked out with my trainer today. TRX moves combined with cardio stuff like mountain climbers, up/down stairs, power sled (piece of equipment on the floor with weights–you have to squat down and push it around–it’s hard to do), agility ladder. Going to do a 3-4 mile walk with afternoon with friends. I prefer to go outside for walking, especially if it’s going to be a walk that’s longer than 3 miles.

I got very dehydrated on my flights this week. When I woke up close to landing I could barely swallow. I think I caught up yesterday, but it was a problem.
