That should be a pretty good workout program! I think it was written by Craig Ballantyne. He was the fitness editor of Men’s Health Magazine and a buddy of many of the same folk I’ve followed. Specifically, his programs look to be very similar to the fast-paced “metabolic conditioning” workouts that Rachel and Alwyn Cosgrove use.

Keep us posted with the details of your workouts. Should be some good stuff!

Looks like Ballantyne has a good YouTube channel:

Go Eddie!

Mud run for me. It was very muddy, but there was not much running. Unseasonably cold, around freezing, so the biggest part of the suffering was just being wet and cold.

Speaking of YouTube videos…

I guess that Neghar Fonooni is selling a new workout program, probably a pretty good one. In conjunction with that, she has filmed and posted short 30 second videos of each exercise:

Looks like all of the exercises are either bodyweight only or with one or two kettlebells. Handy resource. Maybe some good ideas…

Fingers crossed for WC’s speedy recovery! Glad to hear that the surgery went well.

Dreaded half mile intervals on the Airdyne. Too icy for outdoors. Too dizzy for the basement. So I kicked it on the half mile intervals. And bested my previous best time for the four intervals. Shorts and t-shirt. Big box fan blowing on me from three feet away. It’s deadful, but it’s short, and then it’s over… :)

Tried out the ropes for the first time today. I’ve got to figure out a better place to anchor the rope, but it was quite a workout! My arms are going to be sore tomorrow!

Somebody who needs to read Lustig’s book:

Like I always say. First step is to stop drinking sugar!

And, another motivational video. 19 year old hockey player:

Double her body weight…

Kudos, Eddie, on your “w-onederful” milestone! ;)

Idad, I laughed out loud over the contrast of your description of airdyne work BEFORE you did it and AFTER you did it :)

I was thinking of the airdyne when I caught part of a “future” episode last night taking about the benefit of exercise in terms of anti-aging. Back when researchers had just discovered the function of telemorese I was quite excited about the promise of this area of research after writing an article about it.

At any rate, apparently Stanford has developed a “cooling” glove that holds promise because it avoids the core overheat phenom that breaks down the process, meaning exhaustion is put off.

http://medicalxpress.com/news/2012-08-stanford-cooling-glove-steroids.html</a></p>

The second thing of interest was ths info on sirtuins, which I found interesting, here’s a related article:

[New study validates longevity pathway: Findings identify universal mechanism for activating anti-aging pathway](New study validates longevity pathway: Findings identify universal mechanism for activating anti-aging pathway -- ScienceDaily)

eddieo…What a “onederful” feeling! You deserve to be proud of all of the hard work you have done. You go Girl!!! :)

If only I weren’t so hard headed trying to push the pace on these intervals. The problem with the Airdyne is that you are damned if you do and damned if you do… Get the pace up by pedaling harder with the legs… the lungs start burning. Try to save the legs by pushing harder with the arms… the lungs start burning!

I was just hanging on during the last interval, trying to keep the pace up for the last tenth mile. Saw a heart rate of 96% of my max.

A few miles of treadmill running today, free of mud, snow, ice, foam, electrocution… Such a deal!

3.5 miles outside this morning before the worst of the weather got here. Miserable pellets of sleet coming down now. Yuck. Was drawn to run in the Nike DC Half at the end of April, and even have a hotel reservation. I think I have a good 12 week training plan but need to think about how much I should be running from now until February 2nd when I can start my actual plan. Right now I’m averaging 30-35 miles a week at a 10 minute pace.

That’s a whole lot of miles Sabaray! I bow to you!! Others will probably have better advice, but maintaining that schedule till Feb seems like a good way to go.

I guess I feel like that may be too many miles for my purposes. I don’t really know why I’m running that amount or if it’s even necessary. I just need to figure out some baseline of basic maintenance running, if that makes sense. The plan I want to do seems to max out at 29 miles a week, so what I’m doing now seems like overkill.

I was just out walking basketdog (;)) and realized that your mileage was really high for a week - are you running daily or really long runs a few times a week??

Also thought about this- how do you people who run so many miles a week manage your calories - I mean, you are burning so many , how much do you eat??? Seems like you must need a lot of calories going in.

I eat a lot of calories- too many. When I lost weight in 2008-09 on WW I had to really up the amounts of food. I did the Core program instead of points.

Beyond my level of experience, of course, but here are a couple of links, Sabaray.

Down toward the bottom of this Cool Running page there’s a part about miles per week and expected race times for beginner, intermediate, advanced, and competitive half marathon runners.
[Half Marathon Training Plan & Schedule](http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/144.shtml)

Hal Higdon has plans for novice 1, novice 2, intermediate, advanced, or walking.
[Hal Higdon Training Programs](Half-Marathon Training for All Skill Levels | Hal Higdon)

Thanks, Deborah. That Cool Running page is actually very helpful. I am nowhere near those times but it was good to see the mileage, particularly the “pre-train”. My goal right now is just to finish.

Abasket, I am typically running 5 to 6 times a week - I don’t think I’m really burning that many calories with running so am eating around 1500 calories if I had to estimate. I’m maintaining my weight at around 135. I am not gaining weight but I’m not losing weight either. I was going to try and do a holiday streak again but this week was rough and I actually didn’t run three days in a row. So much for the streak! I only work part-time so running fills some empty time for me.

MOWC- off topic but here in NJ rumors abound that Rutgers is going after Franklin to be their coach heading in to the Big 10. Any rumors in Nashville?
