~ 3 1/3 mi park run

Hit my personal challenge goal number today! Over ~600 miles run in 2013. Yay!

Trainer and swim. About 2500 meters. It was a cold day, but the water was just a little too warm.

Up next is the 100 x 100s for the new year!

Big congrats Deborah! You are allowed a day of rest now. :)

I hit 400 miles a couple of days ago - my original goal was 250 - the distance from our home to our cottage in Canada and then back to the border - I wasn’t confident in making it further than that and guess I figured someone could just pick me up at customs. But, indeed I did make enough mileage to get there AND back with a little left over!

So you see, everyone and lurkers (I know there must be some this time of year with a new year upon and all) - we are a varied group with many levels of doing - from 2013 miles a year to 600 to 400 to no logging of miles walking/running/biking/swimming/whatever but just an overall dedication to good diet/exercise/health!!!

Thanks, Abasket. We did good! It feels great to have met my original goal for the year (350), subsequent ones, and then done a real push in December (a couple of weeks ago I was wondering if that was such a good idea, lol!).

Man, you better be a pretty experienced mountaineer to be wandering around the lip of Tuckerman’s Ravine after dark in winter snow conditions. Sheesh…

I can’t even really visualize what exactly they were trying to do at 5:30pm. What were they going to do if they made it to summit of Mt. Washington at that hour?

Good job, Deborah and abasket! Nice way to beat your goals!

I am at 2034 with a day to go. Would be nice to have a round 2040, but did 6 today and not sure I want to do another tomorrow. I also ate cake that Wildchild’s girlfriend made yesterday from scratch for both breakfast and lunch… Clean up of the eating starts soon.

DadII- I see you out there! Come back and tell us about your training.

1 hr pilates and 2 yoga classes, but I kind of pooped out on the second one!

Well, I know my goal for 2014 isn’t going to be to run 2014! I don’t even know if I will have a goal. If anything, it will be to run 100 miles a month. That is doable for me. Congrats, Abasket and Deborah…always nice to exceed your initial goals!

DadII and BCEagle, we’d love to hear from both of you. I hope you’re both well.

2014 is the year I turn 50, so maybe 50 miles a month - that is probably a lot more doable for me than the 100! I’ve been kind of avoiding cardio and need to get back on that wagon, or treadmill.

Gym time - 2 mile run, 15 mins on the Precor machine I spoke of earlier for another mile of that.

PG, 50 miles a month is still at least 12 miles a week - which is 4x, 3 miles each or 3x, 4 miles each each week. That’s still a lot of miles on MY pavement! Is that reachable for you?

Back to the basement. This was the workout that included, among other things, kettlebell swings, single leg squats (gawd are those hard), TRX inverted rows, hex bar deadlifts, and alternating overhead DB presses.

Punched the clock.

Early reports look like frigid temps and plenty of snowfall later in the week, so hopefully winter hiking, or at least some flatland snow shoeing, can get underway next week. We’ll see.

Ok, maybe 50 miles a year

Did some work on the Power Plate. And then walked 2 miles on the treadmill. Worked up a nice sweat there at just over 4 mph…

Pizzagirl, you can do 50 a month - I believe in you! :)

Congrats Deborah and abasket on your nice mileage numbers!

https://www.coachup.com/resources/fitness/incorporating-the-power-plate-into-y

I agree. I think you can do 50 a month, PG. The question is whether you want to commit to it. Based on your previous posts it would probably mean hopping on that treadmill four times a week initially. You’re a busy lady and you’ve enjoyed doing a variety of classes. Might mean setting aside some of the other stuff, at least until you are more used to it. Eventually you’re going to start bumping up your mileage for your 15K, but that would probably only take you about two or three months to prepare, I’m guessing. What do you think? Whatcha wanna do? At the start it might be a challenge (or maybe you’d like to start just a touch lower), but by year end that and more! I can tell you that it felt like, um, a jump going from the 50 range to 76 miles run this month. My legs will attest to that. Sabaray has been kicking you know what.

Well, all this talk about mileage. I did a quick tally and it looks like I hiked (and snow shoed) 151.5 miles in 2013. I would be thrilled to duplicate that in 2014. It’s really dependent on weather. Looks like December and April were the really slow months, mostly because I have little interest in hiking on ice.

Wow, that is impressive, idad! Those were definitely much longer miles than mine, because they were not so flat. :)

I averaged 1.2 mph for the full 151 miles…

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at the pace. As Belichick would say, “it is what it is”. That is total time and total mileage so actual moving speed is a bit faster than that. Thank god.

I did my first snow shoe outing of the winter before Christmas without ever stopping for more than a quick swig and a photo or two. I averaged 1.5 mph.

I don’t want to set a mileage goal. I’ll hike when I feel like it and when the weather is nice. I’m more confident with the snow shoes than I was last winter, so hopefully I’ll ge a few more outings this winter. especially with some places closer to home that I want to explore.
