I weigh myself once a week Friday mornings for purposes of monitoring my weight. If a change occurs on a single Friday, it’s a fluctuation. If the change persists for 2 consecutive Fridays, it’s a trend! During riding season, however, when it’s warm out, I may weigh myself 3 or 4 additional times during the week to monitor hydration. Easiest way to know with any degree of accuracy whether you are drinking enough to replace fluid loss. On a typical 50 mile ride in warm weather, I can lose 4 lbs of water even though I am drinking regularly on the ride. It’s impossible to drink enough during a long distance endurance activity to replenish liquids on the go.

After pouring rain and high winds earlier today, it is now a gorgeous sunny 54 degrees and I finally got outside to run. Happily learned that the Nike app I was using to track mileage is as accurate as a Garmin. Five and a quarter miles in some glorious sun. I was a little warm. Not wearing any fabulous Lulu, but Nike leggings, a long sleeved dri-fit and a lightweight pullover.

4 miles at the beach today (I needed environmental inspiration!) Had a good run, wasn’t tempted to try & catch all the people who passed me :). I was tempted by a lady who was running up and down some sand dunes, it looked like fun, but I resisted. Afterwards, needed some additional inspiration, so ended up at Lulu, and bought that skirt MOWC linked to. Just.couldn’t.resist.

The beach! Lucky you!

Well I don’t want to make you all feel bad, but it’s 80 degrees here! Just a beautiful day for a run at the beach. Apparently a lot of people were thinking the same thing, it was busier than usual.

Nah. Who needs 80 degree weather? Just think… the salt from persperation stinging your eyes. The pink skin sunburn. No, we aren’t jealous at all of 80 degree weather, not when it’s 38 degrees and raining sideways outside! :)

To the basement. Went sporty in Brooks running tights.

Good solid workout. Single leg squats and TRX inverted rows were particularly good. Punched the clock on the hex bar deadlifts and DB alternating overhead presses.

I’ll take all the 80 degree days you want to give up. :)

3.2 indoor miles .

blankmind- Is it awesome? Mine will arrive tomorrow! It looks SO cute!
We have to get up at 4am to get ready to drive to Cookeville, TN for the Cummins Falls Marathon/Half/10K. Daughter and I are doing the half and H is doing his first 10K in years (he was a 2:39 marathoner back in the day). Gorgeous but very tough course. Proceeds benefit Cummins Falls State Park, which is our newest state park. Race temps for me will be 40-50 and I’m unsure how to dress. Goal is to feel better than last week, which should not be hard. I will walk if I have to, but I have to get to where I am not ready to quit with every step. Last year I ran the marathon at this event and did well (2nd overall female- small race) but tomorrow I want to enjoy the scenery.

Tomorrow, 7 days at Sanibel Island. Outside riding, 70-80 degree weather, ah finally. Balcony with a beach view and a spiral staircase leading to a rooftop deck, with all sorts of mount points for a TRX - working out to a beach sunrise or sunset. Sanity restored.

MOWC:

That marathon location looks gorgeous. At 40 to 50, I’d be thinking running tights and a long-sleeve tech T. Push the sleeves up if it gets too warm. 50 is too hot for a jacket, isn’t it?

MKat:

Wow. Sanibel Island sounds pretty nice right about now. Not to mention TRX overlooking the beach. I know that I would be going stark raving mad with this weather if I weren’t able to get outside and get something fun out of it once a week or so. I’m in no danger of substituting my outdoor carioca and lateral shuffles for the agility ladder stuff in in the basement any time soon. The neighbors are probably ready for me to take the med ball slams back outside…

MOWC, it is totally awesome!

I have this hatred of being cold, so I’ll wear capris under a dress with a long sleeved shrug thing (basically arm warmers with shoulders) and maybe toss a heavier top right at the start.

Michael- my sister was on Sanibel today and has a house in Ft. Meyers. Where will you ride? We’ve seen lots of cruiser bikes there but no “real” riders and H was wondering about places to ride. We’ll be there late April.

Hah. MKAT will probably ride across Alligator Alley to Ft. Lauderdale and back! :)

Haha, IDad, no Alligator Alley for me, promised my wife I wouldn’t disappear riding for more than 2 hours a day :). Plus, if I really want to see some alligators, I don’t even need to the condo complex. There’s a lagoon right by the barbecue grills with signs that state “Don’t feed the alligators” and they are not for “show”!

MOWC, there’s a shop called Billy’s Bikes right in Sanibel that rents entry level performance oriented carbon fiber road bikes. Two years ago, I was down there and managed to cobble together 35-40 mile rides over to Captiva and back. Can get repetitive, there’s only so may roads and places to go on the island, but I may try downloading Strava to my iPhone and play boy racer against myself to get in some good intervals.

Good luck to WC’s family!

4 miles, kept my pace but boy… skipping linch today was not good for my run.

Thanks, Michael. I figured that might be the route!
I am thinking I need to NOT do races that involve getting up in the middle of the night!

Good luck MOWC!

MOWC: throw aways. That temp sounds perfect to me, or the old me, the new older me prefers to be a little warmer to let the joints get loose. I’d wear a hat and take mittens, then tuck them in my shorts if (when ) I got too hot, but hang on to them until the end. Running in the woods sounds heavenly.

I ran in the 'hood. Beautiful cool, sunny day, just three miles. No one made any comments about my speed or reappearance, but I didn’t see anyone out either. It will warm up into the seventies, so I hope to swim a little later.

Tried to do a spinning class, but still felt a bit sore from falling on the ice. I decided to bag the class and walk on the treadmill. Figured err on the side of caution. I’ve spent the last 5 days resting and feel like a slug, so I’m anxious to get back to being active.
