Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Idad - I’m a recovering ketchup addict, too. I simply cut this stuff out. Cold turkey style. However, your post made me google sugar free ketchup. I think I’m going to try to make this! No artificial sweeteners - awesome!

<a href=“Homemade Sugar Free Ketchup | Spoonful of Sugar Free”>http://www.spoonfulofsugarfree.com/2012/04/12/homemade-sugar-free-ketchup/</a></p>

1/2 gram to 3/4 gram per pound of body weight per day is a reasonable target for protein for most older adults. If you have a lot of weight to lose, you might hedge that a bit and calculate based on your target body weight. It’s not a hard and fast target and there’s a lot of leeway.

I would get the protein right. Get the junk carbs down. Get the total carbs to a level where you are losing weight. As long as you aren’t slicing off pats of butter and eating them as snacks, I would just let the fats fall where they may. It’s a zero sum game and trying to lower fat usually results in increasing carbs. Depending on your degree of insulin resistance, that may not be an advantageous tradeoff for fat loss.

It’s jarring advice, I know, after 40 years of the low-fat message being pounded home. But, they’ve pretty much given up trying to establish a link between fat consumption and health problems – once you get past the issues with trans fat and other industrial oils…

Just wanna say, Counting Down, you are awesome!

I’ve lost considerably less than you and after a while when you look in the mirror ya kinda just see a “miniature” version of what you saw before  But I’ve had two women fail to recognize me in the last month. Now, perhaps that just means we’re of a certain age but i have a hunch it might also mean I move differently and ergo am not as recognizable at a distance!

Yesterday was a disaster in terms of moving prep, servers down, 12 hours at studio, and I had forsaken the hill for an early morning meeting with some guys taking old racking out…which made me cranky to begin with. The only thing that went right was I didn’t slaughter the caloric budget with stress eating :)

Oops, not true. one more thing went right: my patagonia hoodie sweater showed up and I am in love :)

Idad! OMG what a difference doing the hill in the Patagonia! It’s 5 degrees right now and the jacket was perfect! The hood is awesome and stays in place without obscuring your view. with the full zip, didnt need a facemask or scarf either. felt light as a feather! Thanks soooo much for the tip! Woohoo :)

Busyparent, nice nutritional count for the day! But I hate to see you eating food that you don’t like to make your quota! If you don’t like tuna fish, you shouldn’t have to eat it! Let us help you. Tell us what areas you need food suggestions in and we will help. Snacks? Low carb breakfast ideas? High protein meals on the go?? We can help. :)

^:)^ I bow down to you kmcmom! It is cold out here today. Did 3 miles on the treadmill. Felt like forever. It has to warm up soon right?

Since this seems to be the thing here, I just bought a North Face Thermoball jacket <a href=“The north face thermoball full zip jacket jaiden green + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com”>http://www.zappos.com/the-north-face-thermoball-full-zip-jacket-jaiden-green</a>. Not to work out in, but I will walk in it if it ever gets out of the single digits.

I think I have a North Face problem.

Another bow down for Counting Down ^:)^ . You are such an inspiration. 98 pounds is so amazing. And I agree with MOWC. Just needs to be out of the conversation.

Yeah, North Face is easy to love!!!

But since I can’t afford one right now, I did get a good deal on a lightweight “fitness” jacket that I am enjoying using for everyday wear as well - won’t do in sub zero, but perfect for the average winter day, very lightweight and nice styling (quilted side out). I had some LL Bean dollars to use up so it was a steal for me at $29.99 - I was able to get the Shale Grey before it sized out, but have to admit I like some of the other colors as well.
<a href=“L.L.Bean: Page Not Available”>http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/78729?feat=6703-CL2&page=women-s-reversible-fitness-jacket</a>
It’s definitely light enough to use and be comfortable on a brisk walk or maybe even a jog (though I tend to prefer just fleecy or stretch pull overs…

Hey Deb922, is your race coming up still on??? Sending you over the internet support!!! I am ready to push the button on my first race of the year mid March - it’s a 7K - 4.3 miles so I think I could do it with a couple of breather breaks to sip some water. Just wish I could have some guarantee that the weather will improve and be snow/ice free on the pavement!!!

Counting Down- Ditto. Completely inspiring. KMC- glad you liked the new jacket! Sounds like it worked perfectly.
abasket- that looks like a nice jacket, too.

It was 24 degrees with a bitter north wind this morning. I went downstairs to me new treadmill. There was a slight electrical glitch (i.e. the treadmill shut off immediately) and I had to get H out of bed to come figure it out. He messed something up with his re-wiring and one of the lamps he attached was shutting down the power. Easy fix and I got 2 miles in. Tired from all the work events of the last few days. Will do more tonight.

Countingdown, that is amazing. I will remember your story.

Just a spin. I was proud for going because I wanted to skip.

Lizardly, no JUST a spin. A spin class is great and hard! I used to spin, kicked my butt!

Abasket my race is coming up. March 16! Too soon, my BIL says no one will be training for this, no one will be in shape! I am trying to be zen about it. As my H says I know I can walk that far so if all else fails I have a backup.

I like that LL Bean jacket. I had a very similar one from Lands End which I wore until it was so shabby and then wore it for a few more years. I have been eyeing the North Face for a long time and found it on sale. So I’m justifying it as an early birthday present. As least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Looks like everyone’s sportin’ new duds.

kmc: That’s quite impressive for the down hoody to handle 5 degree temperatures. Those down hoods are so comfy!

deb: Looks like an awesome PrimaLoft puffy. The great thing about those is that they still provide warmth even when they are wet.

abasket: wow, I might have to get one of those for my daughter. That’s a great deal, especially with the hoody and reversible.

I don’t know if they have any for women, but TJ MAXX has been getting some fitness stuff (long sleeve tech ts and quarter zips) from Mondetta. Apparently, it’s a Canadian fashion brand. In any case, the stuff is seriously nice. Lightweight, very clean style, Nice colors. Fits great.

I’m going to a conference on Sea Island, GA tomorrow night through Sunday. It will be 50-60 degrees, more or less. Some of the evening functions are outside or patio. Dress is “resort”. Um- I don’t do resort at 50 degrees! I’m thinking Lulu layers for some of this trip!

Enjoy Sea Island! Assume you are going to the Cloister? Its pretty!

Have a good trip MOWC–went to a conference with H at The Cloister a few years ago and enjoyed it. Great spot.

Two-mile walk today–trying not to do too much too soon. Might go to restorative yoga tonight.

I have seen women’s Mondetta stuff at TJ - I’m a TJ fashionista.

ran across this website and thought the CC scientists might like a look
bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov

Yes- The Cloister. How will it be for me to run outside? Can I get off-property for some mileage? Appreciate the help!

Sunny and in the low teens this morning. I did something different and went to the Zoo to walk. A highlight was watching the penguins march (ok, they were herded) from the building they live in to the outdoor exhibit at the children’s zoo. So cute! I was comfy in my long underwear & fake fur hat. :)

Enjoy the warmer weather MOWC. BTW, when you and your husband go down to Sanibel, Billy’s Bikes is definitely the place to rent road bikes. A bit pricey but the only game on the island for road bike rentals. The bikes are all Jamis carbon fiber with Shimano 105 group sets and are in good shape. I’ve only had 5 drivers so far yell at me and tell me to get off the road and use the multi purpose path lol.

LOL. Michael. I’m sure they were all from New York! (kidding) We will be in Ft. Myers, but usually do go over to Sanibel for a day or two. I’ll pass on the info in case he wants to ride.
