Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Had to share this image that I saw this morning on RunKeeper - haha - for those who like biking and the outdoors but will miss the treadmill…(not me!)…<a href=“Why not just run? - GIF on Imgur”>http://imgur.com/gallery/T6BARZN

I can’t see anything, abasket.

So much for the copy and paste - imagine a bike frame that is powered by a smaller treadmill track in the middle instead of pedals.

Spin. I was pretty stiff from yesterday.

I went to spin class today–had planned on a restorative yoga class tonight, but cancelled it. Friend invited me to dinner at a new restaurant nearby.

Recovery day for me. Sore hips from hiking. The snow makes for pretty easy hiking, but it works different muscles.

The forecast for at least some snow pretty much every day for the next week in the mountains, so it looks like hiking season is far from over. The snow where I live is almost gone.

Abasket…sorry…didn’t mean to ask for more snow exactly…clearly the universe misunderstood
What I’d really like is instant spring…but I can’t ask for that either or my friend’s house across the street will flood again  Apparently, we can all survive the imminent flood if the snow melts SLOWLY…which its doing a great job of, I might say!

I finally got around to putting back in the planks and kettlebells last night after the 5 weeks of moving related scheduling hell. I certainly FELT the results of my inactivity on the weight bearing front.

MAJOR congrats, CD!! What an accomplishment!

I’m happy for the mountains to continue getting more snow. As soon as the melting starts, hiking becomes pretty much too miserable to consider, first with the unstable melting snow and then with the mud. That will continue through May.

Thanks, all! The Lasix seems to be working well – saw my primary and cardio today and they are both thrilled. Consensus is that I’m within 10-15 lbs. of my optimum. Not that I will look like I’m 25 or be smaller than a size 14, but at least it is a healthy weight! I told my cardiologist that since I already have two serious strikes against me, I do NOT want to find out if I’m playing baseball or if I am a cat.

And both docs are amazed that DH has not done anything about his health after seeing what has happened to me and what I’ve done.

I have kept in my head that picture of Oprah dragging a wagon with 67 lbs. of fat on to the set of her TV show (the amount she had lost a while back). It boggles my mind that I’ve gotten this far – and scares the cr*p out of me that I need to maintain this.

CD:

The biggest challenge with maintenance is staying motivated and diligent without the positive reinforcement that you get from fitting into smaller jeans or seeing the scale move. That’s where an outlet like this thread is so valuable, even over the long haul, by helping stay focused on fitness and so forth.

Workout with trainer–TRX, stair climbing, kettle bells, and rowing (used a machine I had never used–it seemed easy at first, but got harder once the trainer started to show me how to use it correctly). Went to a hips and hamstrings yoga class this afternoon. The class is usually heated, but today it seemed extra hot. I couldn’t believe how much I was sweating–walked out of the session and feeling like I’d taken a shower with my clothes on!!

idad, I have had six-month plateaus with the last two big weight drops, so I have learned to stay patient. I also had a huge jump up when we went on vacation last fall, which told me I could backslide all too easily, even without going hog-wild. It will be a lifetime thing – and hopefully I have made that “lifetime” piece of it a bit longer!

40 min mixed bag at the gym. stretching, track, rowing, treadmill. Felt good.

Back from the basement. Crankin’ along with my two new workouts. These are a little shorter with fewer reps per set, but heavier weights. They’ve been taking 55 to 60 minutes.

Today’s power set included med ball slams and DB snatches (35 lb DB).

Strength supersets:
Rear foot elevated split squat (foot in TRX) – 2 x 30 lb DB
Chin ups
KB swings (50lb KB)
Single arm DB bench press (2 x 40 lb)

Really good workout. Just added fresh tarragon and saffron to some Mediterranean Seafood Stew I pulled out of the freezer. Fresh chowder fish and some shrimp ready to drop in. Yum.

I’ve continued tracking, but I hit a plateau after the low weight I hit a couple weeks ago. I really think that’s the floor for me, at least without drastic action.

Day 900 of my running streak! 6 miles after work in a new Lulu skirt! Gorgeous outside- 63 and clear. No wind. Felt halfway decent for a change. I never imagined I could hold a streak for this long.

Day 900 - wow, just reading that makes me want to take a long nap! I’m just hoping the weather holds for me to ride outside this weekend. And today, it didn’t get dark until 7:25 so I think next week I’ll be able to start weekday outside rides. Yippee!

Only 900???

:)

Amazing. Be proud - it really is an accomplishment. If there wasn’t a 901 it is absolutely fantastic worthy!!

Oh my gosh MoWC, 900 days… that is incredible! I ran 3.6 pleasant miles today. I left the hr monitor & ipod at home. Lately the hr monitor is spiking so much that it’s more of an annoyance than a help. I’m tired of my music too, so the last 3 runs have been without the ipod. I like it for a change. I don’t know if it’s just because it’s something different, but I felt very “zen” today.

Thanks. The key thing is that it means I haven’t been sick or injured… I guess I’ll just keep going.
