Thought of you office desk stander wannabes when I saw this :

http://www.salon.com/2014/04/02/5_health_benefits_of_standing_desks_partner/?source=newsletter</a></p>

Good article, abasket. I don’t want a full-time standing desk, but I sure would want an option. This Garmin thing is really motivating me to get up more. You can’t just walk down the hall to get rid of the red bar, but a tour around the inside of the building gets it done!

One of the ladies here has a tall desk and a tall chair with a nice foot rest, so when se gets tired of standing, she can sit.

MOWC. Any stairs you can do?

We do have stairs. I just got up and did 1000 step walk with part inside and part outside. When I got back my computer hadn’t even locked, so it didn’t take me long. It HAS to be better than sitting non-stop.

I’m following in your footsteps, so to speak, MOfWC. Occasionally, like now, i have projects that require 9 to 5 sitting, so I figured out that if I go to the kitchen to get a glass of water, it will make me take another trip in an hour or so. Plus, hydration is a good thing.

I might have to ask the Easter Bunny to put a step counter thingy in my basket! :)

I work on a medical campus so not as scenic as a regular university campus, but room to walk. When the weather is good ( we ARE getting there) , I often will take a mid morning or lunch break and walk outside. Sometimes I’ll sneak in 15 or 20, sometimes just an outside walk around the building but the fresh air does my mind good as well.

Hey Idad–you’ll like this. Just got back from Red Sox opening day and guess who got a World Series ring–Mike Boyle. There was a ceremony before the game and all the players and coaches got their rings.

Did a 6 mile walk early this AM.

Yeah, and he was one game away from the gold medal in Sochi with the US Women’s Hockey Team in the same year. Nice one-two punch! Just goes to show the power of the goblet squat, huh?

He decided not to re-up with the Red Sox for a season. Too much demand on his time. I bet that he continues to train a lot of their players in Woburn, though.

Awesome. He deserves it! Yay to goblet squats.

My training is paying off - my bus chasing speed has increased dramatically.

Back to the basement for another workout. This one had the single leg deadlifts, TRX pushups, DB front squats, and 3Pt rows.

More [workout video](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) from today’s workout. The single leg deadlifts are ugly. Everything else looks OK. I was praying that I didn’t miss one of the jumps and end up on my keister. I really don’t want to be featured in an epic fail video!

And yet still no airdyne interval footage :)

I think compared to me your single leg dead lifts looked pretty solid. However, trust that you will never ever see the filmic evidence that proves this comparison :)

I miss my hill. I feel like I’m losing ground on the dreadmill. I think I need actual spring like weather to inspire a little more vigor on the workout front. I need the pool to be opened and the “transparency” of a bathing suit to remind need I need to do more core :)

Do more core? Funny you should mention that. Here’s the [short video](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) of my core exercises in my current two workouts.

First workout has:

ValSlide alligator crawls
Twisting side plan
Cable chops

Second workout (new shirt!):

Sumo Squat pushouts
Push-up position rows
Stability ball mountain climbers

I’m trying another trial run on the Airdyne today. The first was a pretty comprehensive fail, ran into a snag with custom programmed workouts on the new watch and a snag recording the speed/cadence data on the camera. I probably won’t post one until I do some short high speed intervals. Watching an ol’ (formerly) fat guy do three minute intervals isn’t that exciting. It’s not like I can pedal that damn thing very fast for three minutes!

That is very impressive! I think your form looks really good.

I woke up tired- the trip got to me- and it was windy. I decided not to do my 8 mile run, but I got myself over to the path to do at least 4-5. I did the 8. I just kept adding on on the way out and knew I wouldn’t have to do it tomorrow if I got it done today! It was a pretty day, but a little cool. 46-51 while I was out there. So that’s done. I bet I gained about 3 pounds on the trip. Too much wine and food. Got to get the food part under control.

I wore the Vivofit for the 8 mile run and it was about 15,000 steps, if I’m remembering right. That’s a lot. I also walked the dog, which gave me another couple thousand steps. It’s an interesting device. When I go out front with the dog, I walk around while I wait for him to do his business instead of standing still. Not sure what fitness benefit that has- but I AM moving more!

Finally a good outdoor run. Calf muscle wasn’t noticeable anymore. 8 miles @7:46 pace. Trying to focus on breathing and form. Think I’m going to spring for the McMillan personalized coaching. Pricey but I guess it’s why we work.

I ran my first 5K this morning. I finished in just under 31 minutes, and based on my studying the race results, 7th in my age group. Not bad for a first-timer. Next goal – a 10K.

That’s great Fireandrain! How did you like it? What did you do right and what would you do different? Wow, you’re ready to go the next step to10k?! Go get it!

Yay, fireandrain! That’s a VERY nice time! Congratulations!

Awesome, firenandrain. That’s haulin’ the mail for a 5K in my book!
