30 minutes of aquajogging trying to stay out of the way of the “real” swimmers. I can feel my hip with the aquajogging, but I think it’s OK. There really is quite a bit of resistance with that if you move your legs at all briskly.
WildChild and girlfriend have set up triathlon training camp in the Adirondacks at her family’s lake house and are posting gorgeous pictures of the lake, mountains and trees. I’m jealous.

Water exercise can surprise you.
Because it supports you, you cant really tell how hard you are working until afterwards.
Many days I realized that Ive done too much. Especially with jumping.
But it was just so much fun to be able to move in the water in ways I couldnt dream of moving out of it.

Went to a yoga class that I’d never been to before–Yin yoga. Not sure if I liked it–we had to hold a series of poses for 3 minutes. Some were really difficult to hold–others not so much. Three minutes can a very long time. I have to admit that when I left the class I felt great–no stiffness at all. Mistake was walking home–even though it was 10 am, the temperature was 79 degrees and it was humid. Walk was just over 2 miles but I was a sweaty mess when I got back.

I’m going to Ohio for the Fourth of July too. H and I are visiting his 2 sisters and their families. One sister lives in China and she’s home for the first time in 2 years. I can get in some walking with H–but food will be a disaster. I don’t think my SIL makes anything that isn’t full of sugar.

That is yet to be determined!
Full survival, in my book, would include being able to walk again. We’ll see how that goes. I’m sore in places that I didn’t even know I had. One of the surprising is being sore the triceps on the back of my upper arms. I think that was from stopping, bent over on the trekking poles.

I turtled one time. Sat on a log. When I tried to get up, the weight of the pack pulled me over backwards! :)

Mosquitos. Yikes. Yesterday, I was trudging along, drenched from the hot muggy weather, with a swarm of mosquitos buzzing around me. They didn’t bite because I was fully permethrin attired and slathered in 100% DEET, but still…

Despite all, I kind of enjoyed a backpacking overnight. I just need to be more realistic. This would have the perfect trip if I had driven the extra hour and hiked in the short way (1.5 miles each way) from the other side.

I was also kinda stupid. I carried in a lot of water. When I filtered water from the pond and had a nalgene bottle of crystal clear ice cold water, I realized my mistake.

idad, I hear you about carrying water! i invested into a portable propane burner from REI and a very lightweight pot for boiling water because carrying H2O is a real PITA, especially when you are surrounded by crystal-clear waterfalls and streams!
Boiling is a great way to sterilize water, and the pot was pretty handy making soups from packets. We could not take fuel on the plane with us, but there was a local store conveniently located not too far from the entrance to the trailhead that sold it.

Sabaray - missed the part about your hubby. YAY!!!

Snowflake and everyone else affected by the heat - stay cool and hydrated!

MOfWC - that triathlon training camp sounds great. There are a bunch of triathletes here training - I can never do the biking or running among lava fields, but the swim part actually looks nice. :)

You’re a brave guy, iDad. I think we all learn from your hiking adventures. I have learned (okay, confirmed) that I never want to backpack overnight.

Had my fitness assessment this morning which was interesting. My BMI was low, but more importantly, my overall body fat was higher than I would like it to be. Lifting should help with that quite a bit. We talked about what I dislike (machines) and what I do like (resistance bands, bars, etc). So in one week we will go through the plan they are designing for me. On a plus note, I could bench press 90 pounds and leg press 230, which is evidently pretty good for an old broad. I took a copy of my training plan from MarathonRookie so the strength/flexibility plan will somehow all tie in together with that.

Bunsen- are you on Maui this time? I’ve never been there.
Sabaray- that sounds like an excellent bench and leg press!

MOfWC, it is the Big Island, but we did not stay in Kona this time. Drove all the way to Waikoloa area to enjoy a few days in the sun. Heading out to Oahu to watch the fireworks, then, sadly, we will fly home. Maui is gorgeous! If you have an opportunity, you should spend a few days there. We are so spoiled on the west coast with multiple flight choices to HI that it becomes a no-brainer where to go for a mini-vacation.

That looks wonderful. We went up to Hapuna Beach last year the Monday after the race which is near there I think.

Maui is so beautiful, well most of Hawaii is for that matter. I’d like to go back someday.

idad, that was quite the backpacking trip. Your pack sounds like Cheryl Strayed’s at the start of her Wild trek! Will there be pictures from this adventure?

I took my daughter to buy a workout outfit–shorts and top–this morning, since she had pilfered my favorite running shorts and I did not want them to disappear when she leaves soon. While I was there I bought an Adidas exercise skirt (and a new top). We went to the gym attired in our new fashions this afternoon, and I have to say that I really, really liked working out in the skirt. Not only was it comfortable to exercise in, but we were able to stop at the grocery store on the way home from the gym, and I felt way less self conscious walking the aisles with a skirt rather than dry-fit shorts. So, question: I think this is an all purpose skirt, but what’s the difference between a running skirt and a tennis skirt? This one has no ball pockets–it’s what I would call a skort or a skirt with built-in fitted shorts, so I’m guessing it is not a tennis skirt? The store had some really cute Nike skirts, but they seem to run a little larger (waist bands too large) and were cleaned out of smaller sizes. Why aren’t these cute skirts more popular (and thus better stocked)?

I ran a mile warm-up and then did a trip through the weight machines. Waiting for DH to arrive back from Asia, but fear he’ll be stuck in Toronto for the night

The athletic skirts are VERY popular around here. Tennis skirts do have the ball pockets (although the Lulu skirts are used for running as well as tennis) and are often white. Check out Athleta, Title 9, runningskirts.com and skirtsports.com (and, of course, Lululemon) for great styles. Brooks makes good ones, too. The brand that tends to be very popular with what I call the “stunt runners” (Half-Fanatics and Marathon Maniac members trying to run 50 states, 6 in 6 weeks or whatever) are sparkleskirts.com. The sparkleskirts are actually good quality and their “under” shorts that are sold separately are great for under the Nuu-Muu dresses.

Abasket, near Akron.

I haven’t backpacked since my then 10 year old sat down in the middle of the trail took off his pack and had a melt down which ended up with him walking back to our cabin without the pack. Luckily we were almost home and his pack was not very heavy. I did quite a bit of backpacking when I was a Girl Scout. We never carried water beyond what we wanted for the actual hike.

Ran again on the Shore Path in Bar a Harbor this morning. Even with his illness my son disappeared quickly from view. It was muggy and warm, so I struggled. But I did it!

The two margaritas and shrimp/Mac and cheese I had tonight were probably not on my diet plan…

Swam in the lagoon today and feel like I need to do more. My plan is to drag Mr B into the exercise room when it is too hot to be outside, but we need to digest our humongous sashimi lunch first.

My favorite running skirts are from Lulu and Brooks. This is my front runner at the moment: http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/skirts-and-dresses-skirts/Hotty-Hot-Skirt-Swift-Ultra?cc=14623&skuId=3555752&catId=skirts-and-dresses-skirts

Here ya go, the epic video:

[Sawyer Pond Death March](<a href=“Sawyer Pond - YouTube”>Sawyer Pond - YouTube)

Getting across the river at the start of the video was the first obstacle. At one point I had to jump from one rock to another. Not a terribly long jump, but coming up short or losing my balance would have meant a knee deep soaking. And, I had absolutely no idea how the dynamics of a jump with 49 pounds on my back would go! I guess a couple of years of plyo box jumps paid off because I stayed dry. Then, I had to repeat the jump at the end of 6 miles on the return leg to get to the car. Made it, but by then I really didn’t care if I got a dunking or not.

I love the hotly hot lulu skirt. I have it in a gorgeous floral print.

IDad- you look good and it looks gorgeous!

Anyone that is 5’3" or under try a skirt or running skirt? I am tempted, but don’t want to look like I am wearing a Bermuda skirt.

That looked like an awesome hike. Great video.
