On these heart rate straps, I really think the actual fabric straps are consumables, good for maybe a year, but eventually just wearing out – internal resistance, bad wiring, whatever. I’m OK with that. Buying a fabric strap every year is not the end of the world and I even think the fabric straps are available on Amazon now. Of course, I’m happy to get a freebie, too.

There are a few benefits to not being able to run. I don’t have to obsess over races and be ridiculously nervous. I don’t have to PAY for races! I don’t have to constantly compare myself to my running peers. For example, one of my friends just finished the Western States 100 mile trail race in under 24 hours and earned a really cool belt buckle. I don’t have to say to myself, “I’m only running 35 miles a WEEK!” When I do my first 3 miler, I’m going to feel a huge sense of accomplishment.

I can’t stand obnoxious kids in the pool. I say that with full disclosure that I was one of the worst when I was young. We would cannonball in and try to splash people… I apologize retroactively for my obnoxiousness.

“I can’t stand obnoxious kids in the pool.”

Amen.
We avoid the pools around here because they crawl with kids. Luckily for us, the lagoon is so warm and swimmable that neither of us had the slightest desire to dip in chlorine.

Cardio and weights for me this morning.

Spent the day doing laundry and packing for our annual week at family camp in NH. We leave Saturday, but tomorrow is a 4th of July party with H’s family and friends in MA. Sounds like we’ll be inside for that! So, next week I’ll be running/walking around the island – the camp is on an island in Lake Winnepesaukee. Great views and wonderful change of scenery.

CBB:

Awesome. It must be so beautiful. Lake Winnepesaukee is gorgeous. I hope you have good weather. This heat and humidity is tough on us yankees. Felt like Georgia outside today.

Went to the gym today because our hot water heater is on the fritz. We are in the throes of a major addition which will included updated hot water and heating so I refuse to repair the existing. Now if I can just persuade the plumber to actually hurry up with his part of the job…

Deb922, specifically, Hudsonville’s Grand Traverse Cherry Fudge will fly with the Canucks
I like it too, but i think my “like” of it is because it combines amaretto flavor and chocolate more than as a straight up “ice cream.” I know Hudsonville started out as a dairy coop and they claim to still use fresh cream and milk, but do not know if their recent expansion eastward (Detroit) means a shift in the supply chain or approach. It’s very sweet, but still acts like ice cream :)

I stopped drinking milk when I moved here, partly because to me it tastes funny. So the difference might be in both the cream and the milk.

Abasket, that stretch of beautiful beach has born witness to all kinds of shenanigans related to yours truly…to the south (Ipperwash area), I learned as a youngun why you shouldn’t drive in the sand…in GB, a little later, why you shouldnt drive on the sand while mixing a drink
(now that I think about it, I guess I really never learned not to drive in the sand…which might explain my irrational attraction until a recent trade to the Land Rover Discovery, which coincidentally, will and has driven in the sand…)

But the more recent and amusing, at least from a birds eye view, was likely my (second) marriage to mch, whereby on the eve of the nuptials a wedding party of about 15 enebriated people spanning all ages and shapes (but old enough to know better) stripped down in the moonlight and jumped waves together in the wee hours. Likely one of the more talked-about elements of our weekend wedding debauch at the Oakwood :)

At the time, my father was too Ill with terminal cancer to travel to the states, so we brought the wedding to him.

Happy 4th, y’all! We are having just stunning weather! 63 degrees this morning and a high of 84. Last year it was pouring rain all day and evening.

I swam a little over a mile this morning- 1000 meters without stopping to begin the workout. I’m getting better at this! Just being lazy other than that. Oh- I did walk the dog this morning for over a mile.

I had a one hour CrossFit session this morning. We had to carry two kettlebells and run/walk 400 meters. My weights were 20 pounds each. The strongest guys carried two 70-pound weights! Amazing. Then most people did 8 200-meter sprints, but I rowed instead, because after class I was going to meet my friend to run/walk four miles. By the end of the four miles, I was very tired! It was 76 degrees and about 99% humidity (not exaggerating).

I gained only 0.7 pound during my trip to Bar Harbor, so I’m happy! Too many tempting drinks and desserts. Back at it now.

Happy 4th! Did an OrangeTheory class (still on my free week), a yoga sculpt class then a 2 he bike ride w H. Time to veg!!

Happy 4th to all! :)

Snorkeled in the lagoon, then ventured into the ocean and swam along the shore for a bit. Mr B found an amazing fish that we later determined was most likely a flying gurnard fish. Now off to grill our celebratory lunch and then a short run and more snorkeling. :)

5.5 mile walk this morning, outside. Very hot, sunny, and humid, as usual. Now off to view fireworks from the backside of Magic Kingdom :)

Pizzagirl- one of those Orange Theory places opened up near my work!

Didn’t make it to Ohio–got to Boston from Nantucket and flight was delayed 2 hours–then 3 hrs. Finally cancelled 4 hours after departure time. We decided to postpone our trip for a week and made our way back to the island today.

Got in a 3.2 mile walk and a Slow flow yoga class before Hurricane Arthur started. Lots of rain and wind so far. Signed up for a HIIT class tomorrow–high intensity interval training. I sure hope I don’t embarrass myself–never did this one before.

4.6 treadmill miles, now off to sun on the sand until the fireworks show starts. My legs look nicely browned despite religious sunblock application, so no Vit D supplements for me this week.

Yesterday was a success on the exercise front and a major fail on the food front. Ran the 10k and I wasn’t last - only 127 runners and some very fast folks. Mr. Sabaray had a good time doing the 5k and much to his surprise, he wasn’t last either! Only two age groups - either 17 and under or 18 and over. Needless to say, I didn’t win any age group awards! A good time was had by all. I spent the rest of the day aimlessly eating which wasn’t good.

Bromfield, sorry your plans had to be changed at the last minute - BB, Hawaii sounds like the place to be!

Yay, sabaray and Mr. S! Glad the races were a success. I’ve gotten some good sun, too, Bunsen. It’s a nice feeling.

Going to try hot yoga this morning- my first time back since the day I was diagnosed with the fracture and could barely walk out of the studio (before the diagnosis).

"Mr. Sabaray had a good time doing the 5k and much to his surprise, he wasn’t last either! "

Yessss!! That must have made him feel really good.
Congrats.

Bromfield, sorry to hear that your trip was delayed. What a pita when fights get cancelled after many delays!

MOfWC, it looks like you found a way to make lemonade of your lemons.
My hat is off to you and everyone else who can swim endless laps in a pool!

I wanted to sign up for a fitness class here at the resort, but after seeing the instructor doing exercises in front of the group, I decided that it would be a huge waste of my money! Among 15 or so ladies, she had the worst looking push-ups! Interestingly, the classes are co-ed, but women outnumber men 10:1. What’s up with the dudes?

Most dudes don’t go on vacation to Hawaii to go to exercise class! :)

Hot yoga (75 minute class) was rough. I got dizzy several times in the standing series and had to lie down, which is OK, but I don’t like when that happens. It felt like a good workout, though, and my hip did fine.

Way to go Sabaray and Mr. Sabaray!

H and I walked 3 miles at noon; I was feeling overheated by the time we got back. It was too hot and humid for such a fast paced stroll and I should have known better.
