Ditto! Nice work and payoff, ladies!

Oh, and three cheers for MOWC, too. The way you have dealt with your injury has been really impressive.

Yes, definitely! It takes so much discipline to stick to the stuff you do not enjoy. One more cheer for MOfWC!

The friend should be finishing the run sometimes soon…

I cannot imagine running a marathon in 80 degree heat. That just sounds horrendous.

If the only exercise I could do was swim, I wouldn’t be exercising, so kudos to MOWC. Pretty incredible restraint not to run.

BB, I am sure that if I could do the Bosu and plank stuff you would totally kick my butt. Remind me that I didn’t think it was that bad when I can’t lift my arms tomorrow.

Sabaray -
I ran one marathon in 80 degree heat. No thanks! It is 88 in the shade where I’m sitting currently. I suspect the temperatures are about the same there… No word form the friend, yet, but it should be over. They moved the start of the race up by 30 min - good call.

Thanks, guys. I’m trying but it’s getting really old. I do like the hot yoga, but working it into my day isn’t the easiest thing…

Remember last summer I ran that Blister in the Sun Marathon in Cookeville, TN where it was 80 to START and got into the 90s by the time many of the runners finished. I’m not sure it quite hit 90 for me, which is one reason I took the early start. I’ve done many where it has hit 80- including my 2009 Country Music Marathon where I came out of marathon retirement and that same year Grandma’s in Duluth in June. Certainly not ideal conditions, but I will take it over cold rain any day!

BTW, I listened to an excellent podcast while hiking Friday. Robb Wolf interviewed Nina Teicholz, author of Big Fat Surprise. Here’s the link to the podcast in the ITunes website. It’s also available at Wofe’s Paleo Solution podcast website (google it). It’s the 7/7/2014 episode in the iTunes list.

<a href=“Robb Wolf - The Paleo Solution Podcast - Paleo diet, nutrition, fitness, and health on Apple Podcasts”>Robb Wolf - The Paleo Solution Podcast - Paleo diet, nutrition, fitness, and health on Apple Podcasts;

Wolf is the author of one of the two or three biggest selling “paleo” books and is a certified “paleo” cult leader. Having said that, he’s fairly sane. This is a very intelligent conversation (which is saying a lot for a nutrition podcast). Listening to podcasts like this while exercising is one way that you can make exercise help with fat loss or weight maintenance!

I like Robb Wolf, I’ve gotten quite a few free guides to paleo eating from him - Paleo Troubleshooting, Paleo Dining Out (not sure how that’s possible). I will definitely check that out. Thanks for the tip!

My daughter and son in law have figured out paleo “eating out”. Chipoltle and the like are good choices. They can make it work almost anywhere (well- not McDonald’s, but they don’t go there anyway). Right now they are on a 30 day paleo (following some travel that involved a lot of eating/drinking) but it’s paleo plus wine! :)

To the basement for me. Punched the clock, but it was a tough, slow workout. Muggy down there. And, I’m finding the first workout after my hkes to be tough. Recovery time and all that… All in all, not bad.

*DB snatchs
Med ball slam

Valslide alligator crawls
Twisting side planks
Cable chops

Rear foot elevated split squat
Chin ups
KB swing
Alternating DB bench press*

Beef short ribs and brussels sprouts for dinner. Yummmm.

I like the Paleo plus wine nutrition plan.

4 mile run. Felt good, there was a bike tour, so lots of bikes out on the path.

Went to see Joshua Bell last night at Interlochen. He did the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, amazing! We haven’t been to Interlochen for a couple of years. But what a nice venue, I’m so glad we went. IRL not one person I talked to had heard of Joshua Bell!

Omg, just got back from my walk up the hill. On the electric easement portion of the trail beyond my own land, the power company has snuck in and RAZED all the trees/bushes/raspberries/lilacs/honeysuckle on either side of the trail. It’s a wasteland! I didn’t even hear them do it…must have been Friday when I worked downtown!

I realize they have to access and maintain the lines, and that that part of my morning walk is not my own land, but I am so sad I could cry! It’s just heartbreaking…it was so beautiful along there. This must be part of some kind of ten-or-twenty-year-maintenance plan or something, but it would have been nice to have been informed as an adjacent propery owner. I would have at least harvested all the berries
maybe even dug up some of the honeysuckle for along my interior fence…

I think I will have to change my route and stay deep in the forest loops, because its too depressing to look at. I wonder if it will ever return to its former glory in my lifetime.

A Joni Mitchell song comes to mind

Kudos to those of you with buff arms, heat endurance or resistance-discipline as the case may be! I am not worthy, as the saying goes!

I’m jealous, that sounds like a great concert! Joshua Bell is amazing.

You might appreciate this story:

Oh, kmcmom, that is so sad and disappointing! That must have been a very unpleasant shock!

Deb- I’m jealous. I haven’t been to Interlochen since my daughter’s high school graduation! It is such a special place and I’m sure the concert was fantastic. I loved running at Interlochen and the surrounding area, too. My daughter really wants to run the marathon in Traverse City.

I’m mad at my weight. I’m sure a little of it (well, I hope) is “false” weekend weight, but I’m a good 5 pounds over (no- not the right kind of 5 pound party) where I should be at this time of year. I simply must get this eating/drinking more under control. It’s just so hard since SO much of my life revolves around work or social functions that are FUN and involve lots of good food. Not to mention all the stuff that is always around the office. I feel some strong resolve this morning. Let’s hope it lasts when I start feeling hungry or see that first candy bowl!

Also, an unfortunate side effect of the Forteo bone density injections is a thickening in your waist and thighs. Not so much weight gain as just getting “thick”, is what is reported. Lovely. It certainly isn’t 100%, but it is reported fairly regularly. I don’t have a choice, but that makes it even more important to get my eating under control.

MomofWildChild, I ate very light and low carb yesterday, but had some hot wing sauce (which is full of sodium) and I’m up three pounds today. Very discouraging…Hope the scale shows some movement in the right direction tomorrow morning.

We have power lines running through my neighborhood, and are in a big fight with the electric company. After 20 years of sporadic or no maintenance, they just came through and clear-cut down to dirt. This is in people’s backyards - some of my neighbors had half of their yards blown up. Now they want to apply herbicide to keep the vegetation from growing back. This is literally feet from people’s houses and one of the town’s public water supply wells.

It’s all politically motivated. The utilities got beat up pretty bad for their poor response in restoring power after storms the last few years, so now they are showing they are being “proactive”, even though there has never been an issue with downed high tension lines. Screw the people who live there though.

It will green back up pretty quickly, although it seems to be mostly weeds and scrubbrush.

That’s exactly what they did in this case. Fortunately, there’s two acres of woods that I own that they couldn’t cut, so in terms of backyard vista, no impact – though I have no doubt the wildlife is in shock. I was wondering why my deer haven’t been down for their 6 a.m. Visit the last few days…that was their fav place to forage.

This certainly makes me wish our ulitities were in the public domain…this green belt ran for five miles along the river way, and was an excellent sport trail for cross country ski, snow shoing etc. You can bet if it were in public hands heads would be rolling. What a waste of great green space!

Worked out with vacation trainer–lots of lunges, squats, planks, push-ups. Also did lots of should strengthening moves, which she says will help with my bench press goal for the summer. Over the weekend, I did yin yoga and a slow flow class (room didn’t have AC–but windows were open and it was hot and humid) I did a 45 minute walk on the beach Sunday. Started tracking food, which always helps me. I really do eat mindlessly sometimes.

Sorry about your trail, KMC. You should call the utility and register your displeasure.

Around here, the land is privately owned, but the utility has a right-of-way that gives them the right to do whatever they want, apparently. They claim they also have the right to take down any tree which is tall enough to hit the wires even if it is not in the right-of-way. I lost some trees at the very back of my property, where I never really go, but some of my neighbors had almost every tree in their backyard taken down. Very sad and ugly. X(

The neighborhood association is pursuing legislative and environmental options to prevent the herbicide spraying, who knows how that will work out.
