So sorry to hear your discouraging news MOWC!
Sending the healing mojo your way. Take care of yourself!

Geez, MOWC–what bad luck. Sending you lots of fast healing vibes!!

Still in a funk about my dog. Went with a friend today to visit a garden/museum on Cape Cod. Walking around beautiful flowers was what I needed. I’m thinking about signing up for yoga or spinning tomorrow.

It’s great that your kids are doing what they enjoy and that you could provide the inspiration, Michael. Enjoy your beach vacation.

Bromfield, I hope you decide to do yoga or some spinning. My Springer is aging, so I know I will face similar feelings again someday, but each time it happens in our lives, it hurts. Continuing to send you good vibes and hugs.

A gorgeous hilly hike in the local mountains on Sunday is my contribution to this thread. Loved the hike, loved the company even better! :)

That sounds lovely BB!

Yesterday my workout was circle dance aerobics–went to a wedding and danced my feet off! I always say I’m not old as long as I can keep up with the young people at weddings. So far so good… :)

And tonight I’ve been watching a Straight No Chaser (a cappella group) special. Picked up my dumbbells & worked out to their catchy arrangements. Don’t know why I didn’t think of this before…I could turn the radio on anytime and feel more inclined to move. (One reason I hate exercise classes is they always use the SAME music, for months and sometimes years on end. Boring.)

I seem to remember a discussion here a ways back about superfeet insoles. I am wondering, how often do you all (who have them) replace them?

Mine are still good after 2 years of use! I move them from one pair of shoes to the next when the shoes get retired. Have not had the need to put Superfeet in my Hokas which have a ton of cushioning and support.

MomWC, I am so sorry to hear your news. The hot tub mojo worked for Idad so I’ll go cast a little spell for some speedy mending for you.

I have been enjoying my hikes on my widened trail. Don’t know why I put it off so long…then again, I could barely walk after doing it so I must have known what I was in for.

Broomfield, my friend is a home hospice vet - meaning she gives in hone palliative care to aging companion animals and when the time comes, will euthanize them at home. Be kind to yourself…it’s really like any other form of grief when you lose a furry family member.

Momannoyed, I’ve been tempted for quite awhile to get certified as a spinning instructor but my biggest reservation is having to come up with a variety of play lists! For me, it seems that the effort required to keep the music fresh and in sync with the type of workout being done is tougher than the workout itself. My daughter tells me that if I limit my music to 70’s and 80’s rock, I’ll end up with 2 riders in my class if I’m lucky. But that’s what I know!

Thanks, everyone. I slept better last night. I walked the dog this morning without too much pain. This is probably an injury that could handle aqua-jogging if I could make myself do it. Maybe after the Colorado trip. Dealing with the luggage is going to be fun. I remember when I fell so hard in Whistlestop Marathon in WI in 2009 at mile 16 and wanted to finish and win my age group I was in SO much pain afterwards that getting my suitcase (which was huge) into the trunk of the car was almost unbearable. I’m now wondering if that was also a break and not just bruised ribs. Who knows?

I understand, MichaelNKat! But there are classics from the 50s up to now that you keep hearing at weddings & bar mitzvahs, songs that make people want to move, so I don’t think the playlist would be a problem. It’s just that I would like to hear a new one every month or so. Yeah, I’m a musician…

MOWC, find a cute young dude to assist you with that suitcase.

Ouch. No fun.

Cholesterol thoughts when I get home. Too hard to type on kindle wifi.

Awesome long hike yesterday. Rain shower for dinner again, but fantastic cookout. I can walk this morning. Packing up a day early this morning as heavy rain rolls in tonight.

I’ve decided to bite the bullet and go on a diet of swimming, cycling, elliptical, aqua jogging and rowing. My knees have never been the same after my last race. I got into some bad habits this past summer of not doing my stretch/strength/core routine that my PT prescribed and seemed to get the knee under control before.
Nothing seems to get by HR above 170 like running though maybe with the exception of cycling up hills.

ohio- I know. That’s the problem with cross-training as a runner. Nothing feels the same cardio-wise even though I know other things are just as good (like iDad’s hard hikes).

Spinning class this morning–worked up a sweat along with HR.

I feel like I stretched my knee too much in yoga. I’m pretty flexible for an old lady and have to keep myself in check–especially once the class starts and it’s nice and warm and I’m warmed up. I’ve signed up for a slow flow class tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone for understanding that it’s really hard to lose a pet. Also, thanks for that link KMC–it was helpful.

Went for a twenty minute run this morning (furthest so far since ice started up again)! Not sure what else I’m gonna do today. But I’m trying to eat better (less sugar and bread). The myfitnesspal app is really good at helping keep track!

ohiopublic, I also know what you mean. On those rare occasions that I use an eliptical, it’s just not the same for me as cycling for the same period of time. I think a lot of that has to do with muscle specificity since I can’t push on the eliptical for as hard or as long as I can on the bike.

1prettykitty, my fitnesspal is a great way to log food. Be careful about using it to log calories burned; the formulas used by it to calculate calories burned by specific exercises can be way off.

Want to get fit using the means that you have on hand? Well, there is an app for that! :)

Apparently, Fittr will create a personalized training routine for me based on the equipment I already own.
