Eager for MOWC to give us an official report, but what I’m seeing looks pretty good!

KMC, glad your tree is finally off the trail. What a project! Beautiful cool sunny day here so I think Sabadog and Sabapup will get their long awaited trip to the park. Rest day for me.

Dad II, I was not around on this board during the period about which you have complained so vociferously but I went back and read all the posts. From an objective standpoint, I don’t see anything that reflects the lack of respect you claim occurred let alone which rises to the level discussion forum “bullying”. It’s a shame, for whatever reason, that you have such an ax to grind. All it does is prevent you from enjoying the camaraderie and fun this board provides to participants. Nonetheless, congratulations on your accomplishment.

And by the way, your attacking comments about how people train and “excuses” for being “lazy” are so devoid of understanding concepts of setting goals, programming for those goals, specificity of training, concepts of adherence, concepts of intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation and a whole host of fundamental principles of living an active healthy lifestyle. If for you what it takes is to constantly measure the clock and compete against it, glad that works for you. For many others that’s not the right approach to implementing and maintaining a movement based healthy and fit lifestyle. And their approach is just as legitimate as yours.

Did a “triathlon” of sorts yesterday - 30 min of hot yoga sculpt (which was a killer - I had to do a few minutes’ worth of child’s pose just to hang on), 30 min of a spin class, 30 min of running. Put on by my yoga studio. I have lost some of my running conditioning, though - my legs don’t feel used to “constant running” and I need to train them back up.

Anyone taken a barre class? (Sorry if I asked this before) I took one two weeks ago and enjoyed it. I’ve determined I need a lot of stimulation / variety to stay intrigued!

Thank you, Michael. Well said.

I almost didn’t start. I left the corral to hit the bathroom in Starbucks and had trouble prying myself back out into the cold. But-I did. AND- I executed my race perfectly, which is just the greatest feeling! I wasn’t fast, but coming off the fractures and everything else that is screwed up right now, I am as proud of this race as I was of my sub 1:30 many years ago. 2:16:59 and never fell apart or slowed down. The distance markers were in kilometers, which was sort of fun. I decided not to look at my Garmin splits but just run as smoothly as I could. Garmin messed up a little in town with the buildings and some tunnels anyway. I was 19/64 in the age group. I wore capris, a Nuu-Muu and a medium weight hooded top over the dress. Gloves for the first 4 miles. Used two Huma gels and a few sips of Gatorade.

My daughter, who wasn’t sure how her race would go since she spent the summer triathlon training, had a 6 plus minute PR with the help of her pacers from our LLR group. She was in happy tears as she crossed the finish line. 4:20 for her. Son in law who is a bigger guy and does a 4/1 run walk had a nice 2:31. Bunsen- you would like this race. They do a good job and it’s a very flat course.

I am now going to drink some Canadian beer with my friends!

PG, that sounds like a fun event - variety is a good thing. I meant to respond to your earlier post about barre - our gym offers it but I haven’t tried it yet because of my training schedule. I’d definitely going to once the 15th comes and goes!

MOWC, glad to hear you had such a great race. Just to get out there and execute your race plan just the way you envisioned it must have felt great!

MNKat. - did you pump any iron at Muscle Beach?

MOfWC, congrats!!! You did it. I’m amazed that you were able to run 21 and a change kilometers after everything that happened to you. Awesome job! And congrats to your daughter on doing so well.

(BTW, while running Boston, I discovered that I do not like kilometers. Even though they are shorter than miles, there are too darn many of them in a marathon! )

What a great race MoWC!

I finished my first week of marathon training with a total of 15 miles, so I’m impressed with your 14 on saturday sabaray!

The funny thing is, blankmind, I actually enjoy and do better on the longer runs (16+ miles) - I think because I’m mentally thinking marathon. 14 didn’t seem like a big deal so my head wasn’t really in it, Just had to get it done.

So glad your D had a great race too, MOWC! Really impressive for both of you.

I’m with you on needing variety, PG. My fitness week–worked with my trainer (2x) concentrating on core and balance and followed each session with a fast walk (2 miles), did one long walk (trail to the ocean and back–about 7 miles), and did two yoga classes–yin yoga and a slow flow class. No classes or walks today–closing up vacation place until next spring and have been spending the day organizing. I’ve got 12,000 steps and no walks!!

Congrats to you MOWC and your D too. Sounds like you both achieved some important victories. Enjoy CA Michael.
Happy belated B’day Plantmom. Nice mileage–Sabaray. Envy your running group. My walking group is on the injured list–one woman is having a hip replacement and the other is recovering from a knee replacement.

Great job MoWC and DD! Nice three-fer exercising PG, and training blankmind. Thanks Bromfield. Hope your walking group can reconvene sooner than later. The ocean trail walk sounds heavenly. Enjoy California MichaelnK. Oh to see fitness promoting sites on our southeastern beaches…a dream.

Had a lazier day here. Three mile walk this beautiful morning.

Awesome, MOWC!

lol sabaray, I can only dream of 14 miles feeling like just another run. I’ll let you know after week 8, when I have 14 scheduled!

Thanks. Like I said, my time wasn’t great at all for me, but it was a whole lot better than I expected, and I negative split the race!

Congrats to you, MOWC, and to your D, too. You are an inspiration for all that you’ve been through, plus you find time to exercise when you travel. Impressive.

I am continuing to walk/jog and do PT to ensure this hip thing stays healed. Did I mention 12 times already how much I love and hate my red foam roller? It hurts but it also feels good on my quads, IT bands, hamstrings and flutes.

Dad II … Congrats to you on achieving your personal goal. You sound like you have come a long way and you should be proud.

Dad II - congrats on achieving your goal. I did not “excel” in the little triathlon thing I did, and indeed I walked for some part of the running component, but for me it is a huge mental victory to even think of myself as someone who can do athletic stuff, or be the kind of person who sees a physical event and thinks “that looks like fun, where do I sign up.” Not to mention that I was old enough to be the mother of most of the other participants. :-). That victory is as meaningful to me as your goal is to you, and I don’t feel “lazy” that I’m a slow runner because I’m still faster than everyone on the couch.

Hitting runners happy hour again, dadII?

That is one of the most ungracious and mean spirited posts I have ever read here. At first, I thought you must be joking.

Wow…just…wow.
