Congrats to him on the finish. Marine Corps is an inspiring race.

He said he doesn’t think it was because of the temperature he cramped, but from an injury he had a few weeks ago (he tripped on a root doing a trail run. He said it started bothering him around the 15 mile mark so after that he had to walk for a bit every once in awhile. He had been on pace to finish in 4:40.

This was his second time doing the Marine Corps.

Congrats to your H, Emilybee! I would love to do the Marine Corps marathon, but it’s on the other side of the country, so I don’t think that will ever happen :). My company is one of the sponsors.

I did a 10k today. It fit into my mileage plan, so I thought it would be fun. Lots of people ran in costumes and I wish I would have thought to do that. They had prizes for the best costumes, and there were some good ones.

It was a really hilly course with the first 5k going mostly uphill, and an extra steep hill at mile 3, then you turn around and run mostly downhill. I thought if I made it to 5k, I could coast back down, but it still felt hard and I still had to walk for some of the uphill. It wasn’t my fastest 10k ever, but I ended up 1st in my age group and scored a little ghost trophy, so I was pretty happy with that!

Congrats to EB’s DH.

Congratulations, Blankmind! Winning is always nice! Sounds like a tough course.

Awesome, blankmind! congrats on your first place!

The weather is downright miserable, so it looks like a treadmill day for me. I will try some of this when I run later today:

<a href=“Body-Toning Treadmill Trick—No Running Necessary!”>Body-Toning Treadmill Trick—No Running Necessary!;

Or maybe this:

<a href=“25-Minute Treadmill Interval Workout | POPSUGAR Fitness”>http://www.popsugar.com/fitness/25-Minute-Treadmill-Interval-Workout-35733157</a></p>

Did a TRX interval class yesterday at a studio nearby–first time there (coupon) and i thought it was a good class. Felt good that I could kept up with the class. Spent the morning today putting the garden to bed–lots of digging.

Blankmind–congrats on winning your age group. Nice job on your long run, Sabaray. You’re smoking!

Congrats to emilybee’s husband on the marathon, and to blankmind for the 10K finish and win!

Thank you abasket for asking about the specifics of the Galloway method. I was wondering the same thing about the run/walk intervals. Thanks sabaray for the links. Do you use the same intervals in the marathon? It makes sense to me–way easier to keep the heart rate where you want it.

I’m off for a long walk, swishing through the leaves. Rain on the way tomorrow.

Congrats to all the race participants this weekend - bravo!

Thanks Sabaray for the links - I will look at them later. Going to go out and tackle another garden area - one of my perennial beds - figured much better to cut it down when it’s sunny and 60 than windy and 35 - which it could be at anytime!

I had every intention of doing yardwork and housework today, but it was gorgeous - 75 and sunny - so H and I took the dogs to the park. We had a nice hike around and enjoyed the beautiful day. The cluttered house will be here tomorrow.

3.7 miles in 30 min. I did not even dare to do try the crazy treadmill workout. Yeah, running for a minute at 10 mph at 10% incline after 24 min of brutality - I did not think so. :D

Kudos to all the weekend racers!

Sabaray, though we were only in the 60s, I notice the only chores I got around to yesterday were outdoor chores. It was too gorgeous to be inside.

We closed the pool Monday and by Friday there had to be a foot or more of leaves on top of the winter cover. In a lucky break Saturday the wind had blown them up to one end where I could reach, so yesterday I cleared and bagged a zillion leaves before the rain comes later this week.

As they say, make hay while the sun shines ;)

Our workout this weekend also was outdoors, raking leaves & mowing! I hope it’s the last time we’ll have to cut the grass but realistically…probably not.

Raking is tough work, kmc and Momannoyed. Good workout, though!

Back to the gym this morning. Cross training with the elliptical and some core exercises, then home for some dog walking. House is still messy and may be for a while!

BB, I think you just found someone’s next challenge. 10% grade at 10 MPH? I would be lying on the ground when the treadmill sent me flying.

“BB, I think you just found someone’s next challenge. 10% grade at 10 MPH? I would be lying on the ground when the treadmill sent me flying.”

I do not think anyone sane or insane should be even considering doing that “treadmill workout”. More like a treadmill wipeout! :)

Here’s the new thing - treadmill studios.

<a href=“New Treadmill Studios Aim to Be SoulCycle’s Successor - The New York Times”>New Treadmill Studios Aim to Be SoulCycle’s Successor - The New York Times;

D mentioned her gym upgraded to all Woodway treadmills.

Went out just now to do a little “touch-up” raking and realized I have a sore muscle in my side, probably from all that repetitive twisting motion. I need to learn how to rake left-handed!

Question for the health/fitness gurus:

I have posted recently about starting a biking routine. I decided to do this first and foremost to become fit, second in the hope that it might lower my BP enough to get off meds, third to counteract a family history of type II diabetes, and four, to lose weight.

So the question regards using exercise to burn fat. I am biking anywhere from one hour to 2 hours per day 4-5 times per week (week 7). I want to burn fat, not circulating blood glucose, while exercising. Does eating or drinking some kind of shake prior to exercise decrease the fat burning potential of exercise? Are you then using glucose as your energy source rather than fat? Or does having something to eat increase your performance, allowing you to work out harder and longer, in order to burn more fat and calories, ramp of the metabolism, etc.?

I have seen so many conflicting answers to this question, but maybe some of you are up on the most recent research/school of thought on this question.

^^^ That’s an iDad question. He can explain this to you. There is a lot of conflicting information out there.
