Same here - sunny but the wind is wicked - went to the gym and did a run/machine/treadmill workout.

Ugly weather here too. Rainy, cold, windy. Indoor cycling today for me. Tomorrow is supposed to be clear but 30 mph winds! Ugh.

Enjoying the sunshine and some bubblies in Napa!! :)

(The plan is to go running later in the day before dinner).

And here is some sad marathon news:

<a href=“Rita Jeptoo, Kenyan Marathon Champion, Fails Preliminary Doping Test - The New York Times”>Rita Jeptoo, Kenyan Marathon Champion, Fails Preliminary Doping Test - The New York Times;

“On Sunday, after the New York City Marathon, Jeptoo was to receive a check for $500,000 for winning the World Marathon Majors, a prize for the top male and female runners for performances at races in Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York in a two-year cycle. That was postponed.”

II hate that, but I’m not surprised. I really believe Meb is clean, as are most of the US distance women. I don’t think Meb can win tomorrow, but I hope he has a great race.

MOfWC, me too. Rooting for Meb as well!

Good evening all. Back from the cold midwest to a slightly chilly Florida. I ran yesterday, inside, and did walk/run this morning with dH along with some kettlebell exercises. Fitness purchase of the day: Brooks Ghost 7 shoes. I’ve gone through two pairs of the Ghost 6, and my feet seem to have done well with them. Hopefully these will work as well. At least so far I like the new color–turquoise and purple on grey…

Three pieces? Or three bags?
Sheesh. I’m like a steam shovel. The scale this morning broke me out of the candy binge!

Maybe I should try doping so these basement workouts don’t kick my butt so much! DB front squats (2 x 35 lbs) got my heart rate up this evening. Core was fun.

Seriously on the doping, I don’t think any of the major sports are clean.

I feel like a slacker for only three pieces. Now if we handed out donuts on Halloween, that would be a different story!

Lovin your avatar iDad! I enjoy a piece of candy or two, but can leave it alone after that. The donuts or a bowl of something salty wold be my downfall.

Downloaded the NYC marathon app to track my brother who will be running tomorrow - his third NYC I believe.

I ran NY Marathon in 1979. It was an extremely hot year and it was my 4th marathon or so, I was very unpleasantly surprised to discover how hilly the final miles in Central Park were.

8.2 slow, easy miles for my first 30 mile week since before Kona. I didn’t look at my splits and gave myself permission to run comfortably. It was 33-42 degrees while I ran with a little wind (I was mainly sheltered from it) and clear, blue sky. I wore a lot. I just don’t like to be cold. I was on my feet a lot last night at Wine Down Main Street which involves drinking wine in many of the shops on our town’s Main Street. It’s really fun, and there is food, too. None of it would make it on the Most Healthy list. I learned the hard way from 2 years ago that I can NOT have all the wines and that I need to really keep it at just a small sample at each place.

It looks like Meb did really well. Apparently, the conditions were pretty tough. Good job, NYC runners.

Avoiding wine in Napa is like avoiding snow on the North Pole. Did not do well exercise wise either. :(

Lol BB!

Went to my BIL’s cottage. SIL and I took a 7 mile walk each day but it did not mitigate all the bad food we ate.

Oh and Bloody Mary’s made with horseradish vodka are pretty good. Plus if you have a meat straw lol!

abasket, how did your brother do?

Bunsen, am jealous of your Napa tour nonetheless
I didn’t have nearly enough time there when visiting in Sept.

I hate the early dark of the time change but am grateful for the early light to drag myself up the hill

Thanks for asking Sabaray!

His words (snarky, he is!!)
“Finished the #tcsnycmarathon at approximately ten minutes to forever. Feels great to be done! I hereby retire from competitive athletics.”

Haha - he said conditions were rough but as long as it was dry he wasn’t going to complain. Wind was particularly tough on the bridges. Sounded like leg soreness during the last several miles were his most major complaint. I always think it’s so cool that they go through all 5 boroughs. He had a crowd cheering for him at about mile 7 when he ran right in his own neighborhood in Park Slope - including his son with a sign - “Go Dad! Only 19 more miles!” - not sure how much that was appreciated!

He ran a very consistent race with an amazingly (to me) steady 30 minute 5k time throughout the race so he must not have spend too much potty or walk time. Having not ever ran a race of this type of distance at all, amazing to me to be that consistent. Finished just under 4 1/2 hours. Considering there were apparently snowy conditions not too far away, I think he was thankful to be dry and finish!

He sets up his own training for races and it can be hard to keep stringent with it. He is a columnist for a major magazine that is pretty demanding and two young boys to keep up activities with.

It definitely seemed like the wind was a factor yesterday - my hat’s off to your brother! We definitely had strong winds move through Saturday night/early Sunday morning. Saturday was pretty dry after all of my prior planning and running Friday so I’m a little off schedule - rest day Saturday, cross-training yesterday. I think I’ll get back on track and cross-train today (maybe do a water class) and get back to running tomorrow.

I’ve discovered it’s far too difficult to coordinate Pilates at the gym I belong to; the trainer I like is unfortunately liked by everyone and is pretty overextended which is disappointing. There’s a Pilates/TRX/Barre studio not far from my office with tons of classes that work well with my schedule so I think I’ll be switching over there in the coming weeks.

Sabaray, I APOLOGIZE for asking again - is your race this weekend or next???

You have been amazingly dedicated to your training. Hats off to you!

The big day is the 15th, abasket! I’m trying hard in the next two weeks to eat a very healthy diet and to follow the taper plan to the letter. I’m really, really excited.
