Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Yeah Hops Scout. Glad to hear you are still kickin’

3.5 more dreadmill miles. Raining outside. Did some intervals to make it go by faster. 2.9 miles behind the pace bunny. Closing in.

Wow! You have covered a lot of miles in a week! Bunny foo-foo has no chance against the Iron Lady of Running, aka MOfWC! B-)

Plan is to run or bust! We are off tomorrow, I can exercise as late as I want! :D

For those interested in Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, the synagogue my family belonged to as I was growing up was designed by him. My friends and I used to joke that it looked like a glass spaceship prepared to launch. If you google search Beth Sholom Elkins Park Pa you will get to a google page where if you scroll down there is a link to a ton of interior and exterior photos which really showcase the unique design.

The Manchester FLW house looks very much like a cousin on the Florida Southern campus. We could only look in the windows, though, so nice to see the interior on your video link, idad.

I had a horrible workout at the gym today. I did a little over two miles on the treadmill–some running, walking, and too much standing off the side while texting my returning DD about a little medical emergency (nothing serious) while she was en route. Two more miles of walking with a cranky H. One very rushed turkey dinner–sans the guest of honor whose flight was delayed. One extra chocolate fruitcake bar after doing all the dishes. Thank goodness there’s always tomorrow, tomorrow!

5.5 horrible treadmill miles done. Close to my 100 for the month. Trying a new Pilates group at 6 am tomorrow, then H and I are having a session together on Friday. D arrives tomorrow, lots of cooking to do.

Fireandrain, hope that your issues get resolved!

Plantmom, sometimes the best that can be said of a workout or a day is that it is DONE! Hope your D is ok.

Sabaray, you despise that treadmill don’t you?! Kudos to you for having an exercise plan including classes this week!

It was quite nice here today - mid 50’s at least and peeks of sun. In addition to my early morning fitness center run, got in 3 doggie walks too. Hopefully that helps to balance out the tastes of lemon bars and baklava that I baked today. At the finish line finally with the cookie baking!

75 minutes of compound movement based and core exercises using body weight and dumbbells. I am beat! Gotta start getting more than 5 hrs of sleep a night. I keep reminding myself of all the reasons that this is no good but there are just not enough hours in the day!

I think my version of iDad’s workout one of these times will be when we take a trip down to Silverton to see The Oregon Gardens and tour The Gordon House. That would be a lot of fun.

MNK, found photos. Wow. That place looks huge amongst other things.

It has a very large main sanctuary that is very open and filled with natural light. For many years after it was first built, there were recurring problems of rain leakage through the seams of all the glass panels. It really is a most unusual and beautiful house of worship.

Heres’ a link to an article with terrific photos of the Zimmerman house.

<a href=“Zimmerman House, Photos of the New Hampshire Usonian”>http://architecture.about.com/od/franklloydwright/ss/flwzimmerman.htm</a></p>

MKAT. The concrete block Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian Automatic house up the street from the Zimmerman house has a concrete block flat roof designed to be flooded with water for passive cooling. I guess it leaked like a sieve. NH is a tough climate for flat roof houses! I don’'t think Wright was the guy you went to for trouble-free under-budget projects.

MomWC, you go get that bunny  (Mine’s hibernating…)

I had just started to waddle back up to the wagon last week after a month of guests, bad eating, and sketchy work out sked when mcson’s gf 3 yrs broke up with him, and right before his trip west to see her. Now I seem to be stress-eating and wanting to sleep in…his sadness seems to have put me into flashback breakup mode. I just want to watch movies and eat chocolate for him!

Welcome back Hops. Did you behave while you were away?;)

Idad, when you commented about the cooking, guests etc. in the way of your workout schedule, I gotta admit it made me feel a little better about my errant ways of late

I’m actually looking forward to a few months of winter when it gets around to happening. The snow makes me work harder on the hill, and a little dietary austerity doesn’t phase me as much in cocoon mode.

Re: frank Lloyd Wright…love his work (there’s lots in my neck of the woods) and love the look but he clearly either didn’t care or didn’t know how to avoid building roofs that wouldn’t ice dam! Pitches are boring but Midwest winters are unforgiving of even low slopes, let alone, flat!

Hour of Pilates this morning and some more time with my friend the treadmill (just for you, @abasket!). Now it’s time to get really busy baking.

KMC, I feel so sad for mcson but he will bounce back. You need to get out on your hill and get those endorphins flowing!

KMC- I hate that for your son. It hurts to see your kid hurting, and I know it affects the whole family.

No run yet for me. It is just beyond ugly out- low ceiling, gloomy, rainy. The rain is supposed to stop and the temperature will fall. I need to be outside today, so I’m just waiting awhile.

Well, MOfWC, if YOU think it is too ugly outside, then I’m sure the bunny is definitely not running anywhere either!

Taking kiddo to the mall for “beautification” at Gene Juarez. There is a Lulu store next door… wish me strength and courage to keep my wallet shut!

So, I had my “big” birthday (5-0) yesterday. I started out at 5:30 am doing strength training, then did a little running (only a half mile, no big deal, but I’m de-conditioned on cardio so I need to work back up), then did a spin class. I said to my trainer - it’s my darn birthday, why am I here at 5:30 am and he reminded me - this is your gift to yourself, to care for yourself. That really helped - though truth be told, I would have rather done it at 11 am!

The bunny runs all day long…stupid hare. I’m now 1.5 miles behind him with only 26.4 miles to go to reach the 1300. I can do that in one day, right? (not) It was simply miserable outside. It rained the whole time and the temp dropped from 48 to 45 degrees. And- a west wind. It wasn’t raining very hard- went from medium to light, but still… I kept telling myself at least I was outside and not on the treadmill. I got pretty wet. My legs get REALLY tired from the treadmill- not completely sure why. 5 miles done.

Good luck with Lulu, Bunsen. I got a gift certificate for Christmas! I’m going to hold off for spring stuff I think.
Oh- I am really enjoying the Oiselle Yetti, hideous as it may be. It is SO warm and nice.

Hope you had a happy birthday, Pizzagirl!
