That’s such a coincidence, small world! Where in Huntingdon Valleydid you live Pizzagirl?
What an exciting time for you MK!
Near the intersection of County Line Road and Huntingdon Pike. Lower Moreland schools. Swam at the Valley Club.
Goal was 15 miles today. Noticed some ominous clouds in the far distance during the ride, but didn’t worry too much. At about 10 miles, some sprinkles. No big deal. Hit 15 miles about 1.2 miles from my car. My leisurely cool down was nixed when black clouds hurried in, a huge clap of thunder hit, and lightning flashed. Holy moly did I high tail it back to my car. Never got my bike on the rack so fast before. Rain is fine, but lightning, no can do.
I had a great song playing on my playlist to help me pedal fast to the parking lot:
Black Eyed Peas, “Pump It.” It’s a great song to get you going when you’re in the zone or need some inspiration.
@MichaelNKat, great job on the web site! Very impressed!
Pizzagirl, you were practically down the block from me :). I live a block in from the intersection of Huntingdon Pike and Susquehanna Rd, across from Rydal Elementary School in Abington.
Michael, forgot to say that I’m glad to finally “meet” you.
Weights, push ups, and my 2 mile city walk yesterday.
I think your rates are very reasonable, Michael.
Yes, I second MOfWC. If it weren’t for the distance, I would sign up for a few training sessions!
I had my first training session at the new place last night and I was underwhelmed. I made the switch because I was frustrated where I was at - I had worked with a trainer I loved for about 18 months but when she left, there was really only one new trainer available at the times that work for my schedule. This new trainer is very negative and complains all the time - just not a motivating person to work with. So I changed to a new place that one of my friends really likes. I signed up for a 13 week session but last night’s workout was not nearly intense enough and it felt like there was way too much downtime. I am hoping it will get better as he gets to know me better. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll go back to the original place at the end of my 13 weeks. If I lived near Michael I would definitely be signing up for some sessions!
Nrdsb4-glad you made it back to the car OK. Lightning is not something to mess around with!
I hope I don’t get fired. I crossed the finish line of the company 5K (with my Garmin of course) and knew by the 2nd mile that the course was going to be short. I announced this at the finish line to my proud Sr. VP of HR, who had won the race and had a 6 minute (short) mile in there. Course was 2.77, which annoys me (probably about 2 of us even cared) because we paid a race company to help us with this. They obviously didn’t measure the convoluted course. Long story- we couldn’t line up the police protection for the neighborhood streets so we were on the short paths and did a loop of the parking lot. I could have easily gotten us some more distance if I knew it wasn’t going to be right. I don’t mind that it was short, but ADMIT it so people don’t think they suddenly walked 12 minute miles or ran 6 minute miles. Mine came out to 8:30 pace, which I simply can’t do. Otherwise, it was a nice afternoon and everyone enjoyed it. Everyone’s a winner, so we got nice medals. My big bowl of Bi Bim Bap at lunch was not a good pre-race meal. I was planning to run easy, but my company thinks I’m an Olympian, so I got caught up in it. I did a warm up and cool down, so I think I have 6 miles for the day.
Nice website MKAT. I’m tempted to drive to Philly for a session!
Basement for me. Got it up to a balmy 61 degrees. Bad news though. My glutes aren’t firing!
Got a hamstring cramp on single leg hip lifts for the first time in ages. I’m going to have to have a word with my glutes! No question about it.
Fortunately, the single leg deadlifts were fine…
Workout with trainer today–lots of upper body work plus TRX and some cardio stuff (stair climbing/battle ropes/box jumps). I also did an hour on the Cybex Arc (like an elliptical). Enjoyed all the marathon festivities yesterday–weather was not great. I wouldn’t have wanted to run in it or play baseball!
Sabaray–sounds like you’re ready for your race! I like you’re website M&K.
It’s because you are an “Olympian” MOWC, that the shorted course annoyed you - wink, wink!! Haha - I think it would secretly drive me nuts that people were thinking they had the run/walk of their life - when they didn’t!
Three dog walks totaling about 2 miles and then a 2 mile walk/run for myself along with a power vacuuming session of the area rugs and hardwoods.
MOfWC, maybe that race company got a hold of one of those magic watches and used it to measure the course.
MOWC - I hear you about bogus distances/times. I’ve been known to wheel courses when I think they are long or short. Sometimes I don’t even trust the Garmin. I especially don’t trust the iPhone apps like MapMyRun. I’ve found they are typically .05 short for every mile.
Your job should be safe unless you threw an elbow at him/her on one of the loops!
Saw an article on another runner cheat. http://m.stltoday.com/sports/other/fake-go-st-louis-marathon-winner-disqualified-for-boston/article_3ccaac16-1a45-5a14-aaf1-723fa3feb5df.html?mobile_touch=true
20x-100 meters at 90 effort-95% towards the end of the workout. Used spikes the last 10X. Huge difference.
Thank you everyone for your good wishes, compliments, comments and critiques. This is a very exciting time for me as well as being a bit of a juggling act as I shift gears into serious marketing while still practicing law full time and finding time to stick to my own training regimens. Early mornings and late nights lol.
IDad, come on down, I will gladly trade you a session in return for one of your infamous dinners :).
Good job, Ohio. Nice workout.
LOL on throwing an elbow. Maybe I should have. I mainly didn’t want to throw up at the finish line in front of all my co-workers!
I’ve been eating high off the hog for the last few days. Before the weather took a turn for the worse, I fired up the Weber for some high end steak tips ($9.99 lb, yikes) and a bunch of chicken breasts. Whipped up a batch of Dolly Parton’s Papa’s Cole Slaw. And I’ve been chowing down in BBQ chicken and grilled steak tips and grilled chicken salads ever since. Plus a little diced chicken in the freezer to jazz up chicken soup lunches…
I’m here to testify that grilled steak tips with homemade SC style mustard BBQ sauce is some good eatin’…
The cole slaw is the only real unhealthy thing, but I try to tilt it a little in my favor by using less sugar than Dolly’s Papa calls for! If sugar in cole slaw is my worst vice, I’ll probably be OK.
Alas, now the fridge is empty and I’ve gotta cook again!
@interesteddad, make him your marsala Brussels sprouts. I tried them and they were amazing.
