Went for a bike ride wearing an under armour shirt under my tee because it is dang chilly today! I would never imagine needing to do that at 10 am at the end of May in Dallas, Texas!!!

Not my best ride, but enjoyed listening to an audio book I recently purchased, which helped the time go by.

Did Pilates at a new studio and then a Yoga Sculpt which left me soaked!

Ok, I tried everything on and this is what I decided. I have a skirt sport skirt that I’ve run in and is very comfortable. So that with a tank and a long sleeve tech shirt. I’m wearing the tank because it keeps everything in place and I feel more comfortable, it’s very light. With socks and calf sleeves. And of course a very heavy duty bra lol! The problem was that my favorite compression socks are neon green and I couldn’t find anything to wear with the socks. I like the sleeves and they kind of go with the skirt so I decided to go with that. I usually don’t care if my socks match my outfit but pictures…

If it’s really cold I’ve packed a fleece vest and running gloves but I’m hoping it’s going to be warmer than they are predicting at the start.

This is a rhetorical question because I bought a new running skirt. How are you suppose to know if something is comfortable unless you run in it? I hate spending a bunch of money on something and after the first run, the liner bunches up! Ugh!

Thanks again to everyone who commented. I decided (hoping) it’s going to be warm enough that capris weren’t necessary and I’m more comfortable in the skirt. Last year a lot of the 10k-ers dressed way too warm and they were not happy at the end. I’m sure that it still will be the case this year.

MOWC - Wow. Just wow on that cc coach. You wouldn’t happen to still have the name would you? I’ll book a plane right now for Dallas for some belated payback.

Our top requirement for a cc coach? Can she/he communicate with kids. Any idiot can get workout schedules off the internet.

Ok, thanks to the helpful CC friends, I printed out my exercise plan to tackle the pull up training. I am ready to hit the gym, but my poor gym buddy is snoring next to me!! He was so tired and so stressed about work lately… he needs all the rest he can get. Maybe I can wake him up a bit later…

MOWC, your daughter’s cc coach situation must have infuriated you. And the harm he did to your daughter was unconscionable. In 10th grade my daughter developed a shoulder subluxation as the result of years of gymnastics. Her treating doc put her a variety of restrictions in gym class. Her gym teacher none the less attempted to cajole her into participating in activities that were medically contraindicated. When she refused, he called her lazy in front of the entire class. Needless to say, when I found out I went ballistic and had a little meeting with principal.

I’m too late to chime in on Deb922’s outfit cause she is surely in bed now resting for her 10k (best of luck!) but I think you will be chilly for about one minute after the start of the race and then you will be fine! Hope that it’s not too breezy- THAT is what often makes it feel cold!

MOWC, I love that your D picked up running by her own choice a little later in life (after high school) and on her own terms. Shame on that school/coach!

One of my memories of Jr. High gym - I was TERRIFIED of the gymnastics unit. I remember we had a test where we had to flip over the parrallel bar. I was scared to death. The gym teacher looked at me and said ā€œget your butt over that bar or I’ll flip you over myselfā€ - and she meant it. Terrifying and degrating. :frowning:

Our elementary/middle school PE teacher was very demanding and mean. Any girl who could not do 40 pushups in a minute would never see an A in her class. The rope - you bet, to get an A, one had to climb all the way to the gym ceiling. She really liked basketball and enjoyed torturing us with it so much that everyone but the basketball stars looked forward to the pushups and the rope climbing! It was a welcome change when my new HS PE teacher put emphasis on personal progress.

Deb922-Good luck on your 10K today! Have fun!

Good luck Deb! Currently in my nice warm bed deciding if I should go to spin class …

Off this morning to do a solo ride and tomorrow will be a group ride. Got to get in those back to back long rides on weekends in preparation for the Habitat 4 day ride in 10 days. I’m getting excited about the ride to Hershey and back. Starting to have dreams about chocolate :). My wife is such a good natured, understanding bike widow.

Had an interesting conversation with a Registered Dietician a couple of days ago. She and I concluded to hold off making any micro-nutritional changes to my diet until I get back the results of my metabolic testing and blood work. She did recommend that I increase my level of carbs though given the extent of my exercise/training loads and my performance concerns. Kind of thought provoking - ā€œold schoolā€, ā€œold scienceā€ advise or or reflective of a sound approach… I’ve been trying to eat a 40/30/30 ratio of carbs, proteins and fats. She suggested upping the carbs to 50-55%. She also thought my caloric intake was too low and should be upped by about 500 calories/day even though my weight has been fairly stable within a 2 pound range up and down for the last year once I allowed my self to establish a new baseline a bit heavier than my all time low as a ā€œmatureā€ adult. Don’t know where this will take me but should be interesting. Does all of this make my body a test tube or a lump of clay? Am I becoming a mad scientist or an artist possessed? Or maybe I should stop being so type A and drink a few chocolate Martinis. Damn, there goes those chocolate fantasies again!

Good luck today Deb22! I hope the weather cooperates for you.

Wow, so many bad PE experiences. The only bad memory I have of PE is when the teacher was punishing our class for misbehaving with a sub. She made us swim laps continuously for the entire class. I passed out on the pool deck. Good times, good times…

Dodgeball. Stupidest idea ever invented to try to motivate the unathletic, since unathletic girls like me wanted nothing more than to be hit by the dodgeball so we could sit down and be done with the whole thing!

Too many gym teachers also felt that it was motivating to try to exhort us to beat some other team. My attitude (probably a bad one) was - I’m beating most of these other kids in the classroom anyway where it counts; why do I need to bother to exert myself to beat them in a stupid volleyball or softball game in gym class? Let them have their ā€œwin.ā€

For those who like to try new things …

The new Pilates studio where I’m now going (previous club closed) is getting some of their people certified in the DaVinci Bodyboard. Google it - it kind of looks like Pilates style moves but with resistance bands instead of springs on machines. Or kind of like a TRX but from below not above.

Can’t help but tinker. Changed my macro-nutrient ratios to 45/25/30 carbs/protein/fats. Will a silly 5% increase in carbs really make any difference, in any direction? Stay tuned for more reports from the petri dish.

Rode for an hour in light rain. It was kind of nice. Listened to my audiobook of Voyager, one of the Outlander series books, and couldn’t believe it when I looked at the time.

Good luck Deb22.

Never got the concept of dodgeball - physically hit your opposing teammates with a ball and you win!!!

The rope. Ugh. I could NOT do that at all. Think about it - how was this a good idea?! A single rope, climb it several feet high and don’t worry there is a thin, gym mat to protect you if you fall!!! OMG…

Hope Deb has has a good morning! Hopefully she’s sipping some celebratory drink now that her race is over!

Hope Deb had a fun race!

We ended up going for a mini-walk last night to de-stress Mr. B., but today - it is gym or bust.

Oh, God, the dreaded rope. I couldn’t either. I hated any activity which required solitary participation while the entire class watched. Even if I hadn’t been dreadful at sports, I was nevertheless the type who abhorred being the center of attention. I was so happy to give all that up in lieu of marching band.

I will say that our PE teachers at least didn’t grade on ability. If you were present, participated, were respectful to peers and teachers, etc., you got an A.

Our PE classes were pretty worthless. I was small and didn’t have much hand/eye coordination so I was terrible at most of the ball sports. However I loved dodgeball because I was fast and could eliminate most of the larger ā€œballā€ athletes which really p***** them off so that always felt good. Our school system put our PE teachers in charge of the sex ed classes which consisted of segregating the boys and girls and showing us a very instructional film!

We didn’t have to take PE in our high school if you were participating in a varsity sport so thank goodness I got a reprieve in 9-12.
