MOWC-I am so sorry about Charly. I remember you talking about getting him outside when you had all the ice this winter. Poor thing. (((Hugs)))
I arrived in Shanghai late yesterday afternoon and got a 7 mile run in. Got a phone call in the middle of the night that our best friends’ son was killed in a motorcycle accident. Needless to say, not much sleep last night (after being up a zillion hours to get here). I got out of bed at 5am and got a 5 mile run in; that provided some stress relief. So I am headed back home Friday evening (a week ahead of schedule) to make it there for the services on Saturday.
blankmind-you should definitely go for the half marathon in October. You’re doing great with your long runs. The half marathon will be a great accomplishment for you!
MOWC, so sorry about Charly. The four-legged guys really are family members in every sense.
Got back from vacation in CA. Have gained 13 since August 5th, and 9 of that in the past week. Have not seen this number in almost three years. My ankles are swollen, so I think a lot of it is water retention, though not sure why that is…hope it’s not a sign of trouble. Clothes still fit. Walked eight miles yesterday and 1.5 by 8:00 this am. More walking later today. Time to get religious about the food diary again.
“Poor Charly can’t stand up or walk on his own and is blind. It takes 2 people to get him outside to potty. It’s time, but it isn’t easy. I can’t imagine life without him. He’s 12 1/2.”
MOfWC, so sorry… Big cyberhugs. On Halloween day several moons ago, we let our Charly cross the Rainbow Bridge. It is the hardest decision we have ever made.
MOWC, just saw your post about Charly. I’m so sorry to hear that. As a young adult, I went through the same situation on my own with the dog I grew up with for 21 years. I know how you feel.
C3Baker: How tragic. But good you can be there for your friend.
MoWC: My sympathies for Charly. Our furry friends are so special, it’s hard to say goodbye.
Counting Down: 9 pounds in one week seems an awful lot. Unless you’ve been overeating like crazy, it can’t be fat – so must be fluid retention. Hope you figure it out.
CD, I bet the 9 pounds are all water and salt. I always retain water after long plane trips. For example, I returned from Stockholm weighing 5 pounds more than I did before leaving for the trip. I could not have gained that much in 3 days! My rule is to never step on the scale for a week after a long plane flight (I did it this time out of curiosity). I drink lots, lots of water and unsweetened hot green tea and skip my morning piece of fibermuffin. The weight goes away after that, as it did this time.
I had Pilates yesterday and we did something a bit different - used a jumpboard with the Reformer. I had never thought about doing cardio as part of Pilates, but it added a whole new dimension to the workout. Really fun, but my legs are feeling it today!
CD, I’m going to join you in the food tracking. Water and green tea sound like great suggestions for resolving the water retention. Please take care of yourself!
4.1 miles- still Colorado weather in Tennessee. Flying to Phila later this morning for what promises to be a somewhat stressful (perhaps the wedding from hell) family weekend, but also time to spend with family and friends. WildChild wants to take H on a bike ride in the Poconos and my daughter and I are planning a run on the Schuylkill River Trail Sunday morning- probably not together the whole way since she now has a coach and has to run faster that day.
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. I got up early this morning and got a 6.2 mile run in before work. I’m planning to do the same again tomorrow morning before going into the office and then my very long travel day.
CountingDown-wow, that is a lot of fluid retention! I hope you figure out the cause of the weight gain. Tracking your food is always a good idea. Hopefully it is primarily travel weight gain and will go away on its own within a few more days.
MOWC-I hope the wedding is more fun than you are anticipating. Wow, your daughter now has a coach - she sure is serious about her running now. What a great role model you have been. I hope things went as OK as can be with Charly today. I’m sure he enjoyed those donut holes.
Had my first treadmill test with cardiologist. Doc said I had zero percent chance of heart attack. I was hoping for an age group medal but I guess I have to be satisfied with the diagnosis.
Have been doing more cycling. Did a 60 miler on Sunday. The 2 mile downhill was great at the 10 mile mark but not fun at the 48 mile mark on the return leg. (An up and back trip to Cleveland. When I hit Lake Erie I had to turn back) People must think I have Tourette’s whenever I run or cycle uphill. I tend to utter my fair share of 4-letter words when going uphill!
I’ve noticed that my running tempo times have improved/been less difficult since I’ve been going on these 3-5 hour rides. I’m thinking of incorporating more LD cycling/running (more time on feet) to see if I continue to improve faster tempo running.
Another Zumba class finished. If I can keep from rolling an ankle or busting a hip I consider it successful. Wonder if I will ever coordinate arms and leg movements.
