Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I figured you would be dong some sort of a similar shoulder stand pose - but on your parallel bars. I think I know what you are describing. Speaking of the crazy stuff, our PE teacher called the L into fully extended handstand “the candle.” Some of the dudes in my class were able to do it without much practice. Eek.

Did a core set last night.

Quiet group today!

I think we’re going to need a competitive/elite exerciser forum. I can’t even imagine some of these exercises!

Thought this was an interesting piece relating to food tracking. No five pound parties for this guy - looks like he got a tattoo for every 25 pounds he lost!

It is quiet here because it is WINDY!! Wind woke me up at 5 am today. I barely made it up my hill, but managed to do it with my umbrella intact! So if you ever need an umbrella that withstands strong gusts of wind, San Francisco Umbrella Company makes superb bumbershoots.

Great link, sabaray! Thanks for sharing. I do not formally track my food, but I keep a mental track of what I eat. And I use the scale. Religiously.

I liked the fact that he was honest about his eating - it’s always interesting to see what people actually eat. I also found it interesting that the more restrictive his diet became (paleo, for example) - the bigger the binge. I have found that to be true with my own eating habits as well.

Our Thanksgiving will be fairly scaled down this year. I ordered a Polyface Farms turkey (local to us) - only other requests from D were roasted brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes topped with pecans. I’ll do some kind of dressing to appease my mother, but the days of the food extravaganza have ended. I need to check out the other threads for some appetizer ideas. I think D is eating a mostly paleo diet.

That’s a good article, sabaray.

It was windy here this morning, too, which I don’t enjoy but I was pretty protected for my run.

My daughter made me feel good this weekend. She asked me if I was familiar with the (hashtag) #momrunner thing. It’s a bunch of social media stuff and “moms” post about their running. She’s not into it, to say the least, but she said to me “I feel like telling them- hey, my mom was MomRunner before it was even a thing!”

Hey, you could copyright - or trademark - that phrase, MOWC! I see royalties in your future.

Love it! Going to have to check out #momrunner AND Sabaray’s article tonight!

Here’s hoping all those #momrunners are not like 32 years old!

With a line of running apparel for expecting moms… that would be a good trademark.

sabaray, I too noticed that the binges were becoming bigger the harder he tried to restrict what he ate. He bounced back to about 200 lb after dipping below 190, and he is not happy about that, but maybe it is his “ideal” weight that Mother Nature intended him to have after gaining/losing so much.

You are strong, Michael!

Hope the back is better, Bunsen.

Had time for a 2 mile run this morning. Tonight we’re going to my husband’s work anniversary celebration in a theme park. Good news is we’ll be on our feet all night walking the park’s attractions and mingling with a lot of people. Bad news, abundant food and the dressier attire I’ll need to pair with appropriate shoes for said walking and socializing. Feeling puzzled over the footwear!

Had an excellent job interview on Monday. If I get hired, I can structure my eating and exercise with the work day structure. Right now I am in limbo…I need this shot in the arm! Prayers appreciated!

Wow, that article was super interesting Sabaray! I became obsessed at seeing what his binges or healthy choice foods were. Some serious binging going on there.

Interesting where he says “he worries that he will always have to track his weight” - or something like that. I guess this can be true to a point - but isn’t the payoff worth it? Especially when you saw that NOT tracking created havoc on your progress???

Interesting that he got tatoos every 25 pounds for awhile!

That was an interesting article - thanks for sharing! You can feel how badly he misses some foods & the way he used to eat. I would think he would eventually start to lose those cravings, but it doesn’t seem to have happened for him yet.

It seems like most of the #momrunner s are young.

Prayers for a successful job result, SOS!

One funny moment with the running group in Charlotte. We walked to this fun beer pub/restaurant for our Saturday night dinner and it turned out that there was an Episcopal church across the street. My priest daughter had not planned on going to church on Sunday during the trip, but with the Paris events and the world in general, she thought she might enjoy being in the congregation and not leading it. She went, really loved the experience and came back to the hotel Sunday morning after the service and reported to all of us that she “didn’t tell the priest that she found the church because she was in the bar across the street the night before!”

Got my race picture proofs and a lot of them are good. I probably won’t order, though. They instructed us pre-race that “to get the best pictures, do not stop your watch right at the finish line.” We all agreed that wasn’t going to be the case! Of course, in my finish shots my hand is squarely on my Garmin hitting that button!

Haha - yeah I checked those #momrunner tweets - this “mom” does not need to know about a running stroller or postpartum runs!!! Maybe we can come up with a new hashtag - #swiftyoverfiftyrunnermom #runningawayfromtheemptynest #momswhorunfordonuts

Those are great, abasket!

It’s possible that I relate most closely with the last one.

Heavy rain and winds with gusts up to 50 mph this morning so I went downstairs to the dreadmill. Wasn’t sure I could stand to do 4 miles, but I did. The morning news shows are just not that thrilling, especially since most of it seems to be commercials. I can sing a lot of car dealer and plumbing company jingles now, though.

Did an incredibly intense indoor structured 60 minute wattage ride last night. Probably the most intense I’ve ever done. Last 3 minute interval, my calves were on the verge of cramping but I made it through. Then 3 hours later, just laying in bed, I was suddenly beset by waves of intense adductor cramping in both legs. If I tried to move my legs to a different position, the cramping not only increased but spread to my calves and feet. Then suddenly, after about 20 minutes of unrelenting cramping, it abated enough for me to swing my legs out of bed, stand up and walk around. After that, I was fine for the rest of the night, like a switch had been thrown turning off the cramping. Very weird. When I was having this problem 6 months ago or so, I had all sorts of blood work done which showed nothing. My calcium, sodium and potassium intakes are fine as is my iron intake. Maybe a hydration issue? Gotta figure out what causes this, what the real triggers are and why it just disappears suddenly. Very, very weird.

Yikes that’s kind of scary MK! I get cramping in my feet from time to time - but not my whole leg(s)! Walking around usually does help.

Hope someone here has some insight.
