I love the promotional materials for the Monkey. So clever! My running feels better than it has in a while, but I think the Monkey challenge would be way beyond my abilities.
Big dog walk this afternoon; just home from having dinner with my mother - huge overdose of Mexican food - I’m ready for bed, but the dogs seem to disagree!
Ran 10 Long slow D today. The iPhone said 10 but I know I ran 12-13! I’m convinced my gps on my phone and garmin are conspiring against me and not calculating my true miles
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, affectionately referred to as DOMS. You know, when you push a workout outside of your envelop but you feel good when you are done, and the next day your muscles feel it a bit and you think “What a great workout that was” but then 2 days later those same muscles are giving you a severe scolding. Well, I’m paying for Friday’s compound movement dumbbell workout today! My inner thigh muscles and glutes are having a real conversation with me today about all the dumbbell 2 legged and 1 legged/step bench squats and compound dumbbell burpies I did on Friday. And I thought after yesterday’s relaxed 35 mile bike ride that I was going to escape unscathed lol. My wife has concluded, once again, that I’m an idiot and I’ve concluded I’ve got to do it more, thereby giving greater credibility to my wife’s conclusion.
Did a little over 6 miles with the running group yesterday. It was 3 miles uphill & 3 back down. On the way up, I was cursing at my Garmin every time it would beep for me to start my run interval. On the shady downhill part, I felt like the world’s greatest runner. Amazing what a little incline can do.
Abasket, I have no personal experience with those combo gloves, but I really like the idea - in theory provide warmth better than just gloves. Come with a built-in flashlight, so that’s a good bonus.
Freezing here, too, this morning. My cats are very cuddly. Today’s exercise will be running around town gathering Thanksgiving supplies and cleaning the house.
Keeping fingers crossed that the WC’s parents are warm, and the Monkey was a success with their generous volunteer help. The Monkey is my ultimate dream race, but I need to get better at running hills!
Spent the morning testing out all sorts of functional fitness concepts. Moved my behemoth snowblower from the shed to my garage (pushing, pulling, walking lunges) and moved all the deck furniture from the deck to the shed (squatting, lifting, even threw in an Olympic snatch movement to get the table overhead) and moved 4 19 inch car wheels with snow tires mounted from the shed to the lawn and back to the shed (squatting, lifting and rotational torso movements). Have I forgotten anything? Oh yeah, now it’s time to take a nap, probably the most enjoyable functional fitness exercise I’ll do today.
Ooohh… Exercise that involves tire flipping! That is hard core. B-)
I am finishing Matt Fitzerald’s book Racing Weight. It is an amazingly easy to read but very scientifically based guide to nutrition improvement and optimization with which I almost completely agree. I will post some highlights later. The sun is out, and I am itching to fill the yard waste can before I hit the tour of the supermarkets in my quest for Thanksgiving “raw materials.”
Racing Weight is in our library system. Yay! Thanks for the recommendation, Bunsen.
I do envy the first snows and cold spells you’re all getting now. Cool air is moving in after the rain of yesterday and today, but right now it’s till close to 80. Tomorrow our high will be in the upper 60’s–major improvement, even if it’s only temporary! Took a 4 mile walk with dh this morning.
Chilly here today - only activity was a trip to the park with the pups. Somehow they know when it’s Sunday! Mr. Sabaray and I ran our Thanksgiving errands this morning - if I don’t have it now, we’re not going to have it at all! Now all that’s left is the cleaning.
The Monkey went well. It was 30 at the start, but H had hand warmers and I wore a lot of stuff. We were fine. It was sunny and pretty. The winner was our local fastest runner running his first Monkey- mainly as a training run. He ran 2:39.
Sabaray- you could do it. Bunsen- you absolutely could. Lots of people walk the uphills and some people walk the whole thing. I don’t recommend that! There is an early start option (an hour early) for those who feel they will be very slow or who just want to get on with it. This year about 40 plus took the early start. It gets confusing on the course, although they have a smiley face on their bibs and you can generally tell who they are. There is tons of food afterwards- all pot luck- and Yazoo kegs starting at noon. This is NOT a fast, competitive race, but more of a fun challenge race.
I ran 2 miles on the treadmill early this morning before we headed over there so I didn’t have to deal with running before the race, changing into dry clothes, etc.
Just got back myself from getting all my raw materials for Turkey Day and the week in general. I’ll surely have a quick stop at the produce store before Thursday. Bought beets because I want to do a beet dish but haven’t decided “how” yet - roasted and put over a salad (with other root vegetables) or a cold salad with feta and nuts. Hmm.
The next few days are super busy (what a surprise!) and I’m going to have to do my best to get what exercise I can done and not fret over it. Working a very short week and driving to pick up my freshman Tuesday - I’m REALLY not in the mood to work at all this week!
Did a quick walk (2miles)!early am–came home and found my puppy had cheqed iff a piece of a large aloe plant. Looked it up and saw it was toxic–ended up
taking her to the emergency vet clinic–she must not have eaten too much because she’s not exhibited any of the symptoms of poisoning. I felt terrible–never knew the plant was toxic!
Wow, that’s scary Bromfield! Seems that many dogs just stay away from the stuff they really shouldn’t have. That’s an interesting item for your puppy to decide to chew on!!!
Yikes! Plants and pets. Glad the pup did not feast on it, just nibbled.
Got my supplies, hauled them into the house. Raked a yardwastecanful (is this a word? ) of leaves. The windstorm did a great job shaking the last ones off the branches. At least there was some silver lining to it.
