Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I love the “Exercise Cinderella” term, but my own clock strikes at 10:30! I am an early riser.

Got treadmill in today - walking briskly to warm up , then the 1.5 mile run and then walking again.

It’s snowing and supposed to get worse as the day goes by, so I am planning to get to late AM yoga.

It’s a rare day you’ll find me still awake at any hour close to midnight! My studio is closed today due to weather and the gym isn’t opening until ten (which is shorthand for we’ll be announcing the closing then) so pup walks will likely be it for today. Sabapup has a vet appointment which Mr. Sabaray will be driving us to. Time for her annual tune-up - that will be when I get lectured about letting her gain weight!

I am sore today from the various rolling techniques. What was interesting was really discovering where I needed bodywork - it seems I’ve been compensating for my arthritic ankle so had a lot of painful areas in my left leg. I’m going to try and roll several times a week.

I see young guys at our uni gym rolling their legs while propped up on their elbows and surfing their iPhones! Rolling has definitely become more proactive - before injury - than just after injury it seems.

I am asleep by 10:30- if not before. I still feel crummy from this throat thing (and my voice is almost gone, which for me is not a good thing… ) 2 miles on the dreadmill before work- 39 degree rain outside.

I have a business trip (with all the glamour that sometimes goes with my job (not) ) to somewhere an hour away from Des Moines, Iowa (don’t be jealous, everyone) in March. We are visiting a chicken hatchery, which should be interesting and not disgusting like the places where they kill the chickens. Anyway, my first concern was “when will I run since my flight is at 6:25am?” and my second concern was “where are we staying and can I run there?” since someone else made our reservations. I haven’t figured it all out yet.

Seeing midnight is usually an occasion only when my kids are home and it’s the weekend. My D1 loves to chat and say up watching tv with me so midnight is “bunny” for her! Normally I head up 10ish so I can enjoy 1/2 hour or so with my current favorite book.

Was all excited (and pleased with myself) that I brought clothes to attend my first official yoga class today. It’s a gentle flow yoga class. Gotta start somewhere! I put it on my work calendar so no calls or meetings would get in the way. Got to work today only to find out apparently class is cancelled today - the instructor is probably home with her kids off for the holiday. UGH. Best laid plans! I’ll probably go to the gym and do something for 45 minutes.

We had about 1/2 inch of snow last night. Might melt off today or tomorrow. That will leave our walks/paths clear again. And warmer temps in the 50’s at the end of the week! So maybe get some outside/fresh air time.

Des Moines/Chickens/6:25am flight? Life is glamorous sometimes, right?!

Risotto and chocolate fondue last night - I swear, it’s back to fish & steamed veggies next week!! We did get in about 6 hours of walking around the Natural History museum, so probably did ok overall.

Michael, I think your arm chair diagnosis is probably spot-on.

Great news: I start physical therapy on Wednesday! Turns out that the runaround was that my insurance wanted me to go to the PT center at U of M for students. After explaining that they couldn’t get me in for months and that I don’t actually live in Ann Arbor (and have many more PT places that are more convenient), they finally approved my referral and I was able to get into a place which came highly recommended right away!

Woohoo

That’s great news about the PT romani! Hope you have good results.

Folks who watched the 2016 marathon trials will appreciate this article. Shalane describes her struggles with dehydration in the last two miles of the race (oh, it sounds so familiar…) and being there for Amy, her training partner (and Amy being there for her!):

And here is another article - on finishing last in the race and having no regrets about that:

Great articles.

We’ve had some really cold days and I have done most of my exercise inside with the exception of a few short walks with my puppy (she’s 6 months today). I did two yoga classes over the weekend and today I did a 2 mile hill climb on the treadmill–really cranked it up to a steep incline. Got my Fitbit Charge HR today and set it up right away. Steps seem accurate so far. I wore my Polar HRM (chest strap) to compare with FB and it seems like FB was higher. Is that what people are finding?

So one step forward and three steps back.

Finally got the call from Rheum! They can’t get me in until late May :(. Luckily, I have an MD/Professor advocate who is going to see if he can pull any strings.

And then I got some not so good blood results.

Boo.

Also found out today that my fitbit has been dead for nearly a week. Oops. I guess I’m a little out of it

Yeah, you have to charge the Fitbit every few days. I charge maybe twice a week.

I charge every other night because I have battery anxiety!

That’s ridiculous! I hope you can pull some strings.

Well I snapped tonight. Couldn’t do the low HR thing. 6 miles at mostly 8:00 pace with the last 1 1/2 miles at 6:30 and last 1/2 mile at 2:45. Felt good. Got up to 183 HR.

That’s quite a snap ohio, lol! Hope you found it therapeutic.

Both my clients cancelled tonight due to snow and freezing rain. So I had 2 found hours to workout and then have dinner at a reasonable hour. Yay! First day of week 10 of parallettes followed by my usual full body enhanced body weight, suspension, and legs routine. 9 oz of halibut, mixed veggies and a potato for dinner topped off with my guiltless chocolate covered banana.

I had an easy walking only day yesterday with a bunch of sitting in the car traveling home from the beach. I was having Fitbit anxiety while I was on the long drive home. One of my family member FB friends surpassed my step count by 10000 steps. I didn’t expect the little device to foster such a sense of completion, lol.

Today I ran six miles and walked a couple more with DH. I finally had the stitches in my mouth removed. Looking forward to normal eating. Here’s an easy dinner for two I made tonight: a roasted Cornish hen; cauliflower and broccoli tossed with olive oil, seasonings, and cooked in the hen pan; one large sweet potato. Super easy and a great little dinner we could split.

4 miles on the treadmill. Gotta get my butt glued to the chair for another long session. :frowning:

Made my first dinner using the recipes from Racing Weight Cookbook: mashed cauliflower (sour cream is the secret ingredient) and individual meatloaves. Supplemented with pan-fried baby portobello mushrooms, a glass of red wine, and Pellegrino. Mr. approved!

The cookbook is a keeper for those days when I don’t feel like playing Tom Douglas. Many of the recipes have fewer than 7 ingredients and need minimal prep time. Perfect for novice cooks who would rather spend more time on the trail than in the kitchen.

Just checked the Marathon Trials result. So many DNFs! The gal who won the crazy, hot, hilly marathon I ran DNF. :frowning: Apparently, this was the hottest marathon trials on the record, and the temps only reached 73 degrees, but there was no shade at all! Ouch. I do not expect any records to fall in Rio.
