Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Excellent, romani!

I feel like I am coming down with something. I have a sneaking suspicion that my officemates have shared their bug with me. Hate, hate, hate the feeling that the inevitable will happen.

Oh no, BB :(. Sending healthy vibes!

Hope you are ok, BB.

Ugh, Bunsen. I hate that. It’s not easy to head it off, either.

At least our thread is not entitled “Old naked women and men”. Just sayin’

Feel better, BB - we have a lot of crud going around our office because everyone who gets sick keeps coming to work!

“Naked Geezers” has a ring to it. Unisex, too. Wonder if it’s too late to edit the thread title.

I had a good 6 mile run last night. I am hoping to get a longer run in tonight but I also need to cut the grass! I am not ready for mowing season to start! There never seem to be enough hours in the day…

I started a new position at work yesterday and I feel like I have been thrown into the deep end of the pool and I’m flailing around trying to stay afloat! I know it will all be fine once I get up to speed but right now it’s a little overwhelming.

BB - I hate that feeling when you think you’re coming down with something. I hope you’re able to head it off.

Romani - glad that you are feeling better and not hurting as much these days. Congrats on the steps yesterday!

I hate that too BB! And of course by the time you feel it coming on its usually too late to do anything about it. Hope you feel ok.

Hahaha, MOWC. I just read that thread and got my laugh for the morning! Of course, it probably didn’t seem so funny to the 16 yr old and his mom at the time. Sabaray, perhaps “Fit Naked Geezers”?

Apropos of that, when both of our kids had finally permenantly moved out of our house, I changed our answering machine message to warn callers that if they came over unannounced, because we were now empty nesters that we would likely be unclothed when they arrived. It seems to have worked!

Naked Geezers, huh? Now I feel like maybe I shouldn’t log into this thread at work. :-*

Hope you wake up on the good side of feeling NOT sick BB!

My D1 who was home over the weekend left my house yesterday morning not feeling the best. Ended up at a minute clinic by the end of the work day with an ear infection, cough and overall nausea and chills. I too have felt (as I think Plantmom said yesterday) just a little “off”. I hope she didn’t give me anything. I think I’m ok, just a little tired and a slight headache.

Funny story- My daughter and I are frustrated with the wimpiness of some of our running friends who take a month off every time they cough, it seems. She asked me, “Is our family just heartier or something? I mean- you ran a mile when you had pneumonia!” I said, “Well, it was a mile when I had norovirus- and that was due to the encouragement of my CC Exercise group! With pneumonia I was able to run 3 miles!”

You will not be impressed with my wimpiness! I just came from OrangeTheory and I’m still doing a mix of power walking and sloooow jogging!

@BunsenBurner – I sincerely hope you don’t have what I am now calling “the scourge of the northwest” since so many of my friends have come down with it. Incredibly nasty virus.

I managed to walk the fast dog yesterday (3 miles) and even ran about 1/4 mile of it (downhill, with a tailwind) without wanting to stop and rest midway. I am coughing much less.

It has just dawned on me that doing even the shortest triathlon in six weeks means I need to do at least a few all-three training sessions. Combined with the flu/cold I’m now recovering from, this has me in a panic. Fortunately, I have good friends, and one of them is meeting me Thursday for a bike ride over the course (12 miles) and I’ll follow that up with a short run. Or a walk. But something.

pizzagirl- You are doing plenty. That said, I was thinking about you this morning. I know iDad would disagree with me, but I would be curious as to whether your body shape would change the way you sort of want it to if you did more cardio. I know it isn’t what you like, but I am a believer (obviously) in more cardio than you are doing. I wish there was some good cardio that you liked.

@sabaray: Yes, I went to the yoga retreat. Two sessions of yoga a day (2 hours in the morning and 1 hour restorative in the evening). Also, tried SUP (standup paddle board). Did a 6-mile walk on the beach one day too. I passed on the surfing classes (I’m not the strongest swimmer), but those who went loved it.

Spinning class today and will talk the dog out tonight for a 1-2 mile walk.

I have signed up for the Fluid Running 2x/week (up from 1x). I do acknowledge weight would come off faster if I were more disciplined re cardio. I think I am so naturally non-active that the fact that I’m going to / enjoying / looking forward to classes is good in and of itself even if the changes are more in strength and flexibility vs cardio endurance.

I do like OrangeTheory mostly when it’s over  but it’s not the same kind of look-forward-to that I have with weights, Pilates and yoga.

I’m also hopeful that as it gets warmer, H and I will do more bike riding. Our standard route is 2 hours.

Bromfield- that sounds great! I want to try SUP! I’m trying to get my sister to buy a paddleboard for their Poconos lake house, but they are pretty expensive.

Thanks, guys! I am fighting whatever it is by staying home and drinking lots of tea.

I definitely have a recovery period after Pilates that impacts my ability to do a lot of cardio. That’s something I’m still struggling with - how to make everything work together. My classes are a lot more fun than running, but I think part of it is knowing the pain won’t last very long!

SUP does sound fun. I too would pass on surfing - mainly because of my fears of what lies beneath!
