Clerked a track meet tonight that resulted in over 15k steps. Combination of walking and sprinting trying to get heat sheets from the starting line to the finish line.
I’m thinking I need to get a new pair or two of running shoes. Probably don’t need any but this group causes me to spend $$$ on fitness gear and gadgets.
Lol, ohio! Clerking will do that to you! I once signed up to be a runner at one of kiddo’s swim meets. I did not realize that it would be at the large aquatic center where the pool is located 4 stories deep into the ground! Results had to be posted in the lobby… If I had a Fitbit at that time, I would have set an all-time Fitbit floor record, because I did not want to wait for the elevator…
I am feeling sooo much better! Even went outside and walked the garbage cans down to the main road.
WOW!!! I managed to get my pushups and 10,000 steps in despite being sick (actually, I feel so much better than I did last night). Mr. says I have a strong immune system because my Metro trips are better than any flu shots. LOL.
Did a base mile ride today with my racer friends. It was so good to be outside! Next week we are going to start our structured training rides. Three days per week of 4x 10 minute time trial pace intervals, one day of longer base rides, with hill training rides, pace line training and sprint intervals interspersed in the schedule. I am so done riding inside!
I’m also going to start offering outdoor individual and small group training in a few weeks. Can’t wait to start putting my outdoor equipment to use. Gonna hang the cargo net, climbing rope and rings this weekend if the weather is nice. Also thinking of adding a climbing wall to the playground. Time to play!
Got up at 5:30 feeling a little queasy (I think it was sympathy for everyone here who hasn’t been well), but got out around 6 for 5.5. I made myself run some of the hills by my house that I absolutely hate doing. Didn’t set any land speed records, but it felt good. Ever since the ten miler, I’ve been concentrating more on my effort rather than pace - making sure the effort feels consistent throughout - particularly on the hills - and not worrying so much about the speed right now.
Michael, we need to come try out your playground. Can we get a group discount?
Absolutely, sabaray. We can have a BBQ at my house. But you have to do a circuit of the playground for each burger you want. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if there were a race in Philadelphia that everyone could do and make it a long weekend to include a BBQ!
I didn’t get to run last night, but I did get the grass cut. Ended the day with walking the dog to net 23K steps so at least I was active even without the run. Tonight is running club if I can escape work in time. I started a new position on Monday and I’m in over my head a bit. It will all settle out once I’m up to speed but right now it’s a little crazy.
Pizzagirl - I continue to be amazed at the variety and quantity of classes that you take! And I totally don’t get having a bunch of overweight instructors.
I am all for a race in Philadelphia in combination with a BBQ and playing on Michael’s giant playground!
Hello all! Finally got out to run this morning at the beach. Just under 4 miles done. It was quite cold, but sunny and no wind. Monday was raining and yesterday was really, really windy. The pup has had to make do with fairly short walks. Today I’ll take her on a longer one.
Since we’re only here until Saturday, we came down in one car. H has meetings this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow morning up in central MA, so is staying overnight – which means the pup and I will be here without a car. I’m sure all will be well – it just feels kind of odd.
The family camp we go to in NH (where D is getting married) added SUP 2 summers ago. Very easy to get the hang of it – although I will say the ease of actually doing it varies considerably depending on how much wind there is. Little to no wind = calm waters = easy; more wind = more waves = more difficult. I’m not sure I’d be up for trying it on the ocean.
C3-I take either 2-3 classes a day, depending on the day, and give myself 1 day a week where I do nothing. I typically allow at least an hour in between classes. Don’t be all that impressed
I have frequent reoccurring dreams about (running) races. Sometimes the racing dreams occur in the present. Oftentimes I am at my current age but running in HS and I have a hard time reconciling the age difference in my dreams. In addition, I’ve also had this reoccurring NIGHTMARE since my teens of running in slow motion and unable to move my legs faster. Do I need professional help?!
Speaking of the Old Naked Men thread—I’m a little frightened of some of the old naked men the health club locker room and it is a prime motivator for this old man to continue to stay active!
It looks like we are about to adopt another senior doggie. She’s 13 and had a loving home for 12 years, but one parent died and the other had Alzheimer’s complications and had to give her up. My husband is a little less excited than I am, but I feel our calling is to rescue these lovely senior Golden Retrievers and let them live out their lives. She’s less mobile than our current oldie, JJ, so I won’t get many steps with her, but I’m excited.
3.1 miles before work. It’s hard for me to get up and out there. I may try to sneak down to the work gym mid-afternoon for a couple more miles.
MOWC, I might’ve just choked up a little bit reading your post. People who adopt senior animals are saints on earth (and I say that as a non-religious person!)
Unfortunately, I’ve been in pain again. Yesterday and today were bad… barely able to get up and around. I was supposed to start physical therapy on my back today but the doctor (not my normal doctor but one who could get me in) apparently never sent the script. Boo
Off to infusion. The good thing about the infusions is that they kill my appetite so hopefully I can stop eating like a hog for a few days.
I had a very sobering day on Monday. I was visiting a friend, when we learned of the sudden, shocking death of a mutual friend. 65-year-old woman in excellent shape. Found dead in her hotel room. Probably a heart attack. She was beloved by many, had two kids in their 20s. She had been feeling under the weather for a couple days, was going through a nasty divorce and so attributed her anxiety, insomnia, etc., to the stress. She actually texted my friend two days earlier that she “thought” she was having a heart attack, but was feeling better.
What’s so confounding to me about these symptoms is that I certainly have some of them every now and then. Back pain. Clammy sweats. Sleep disturbances. Indigestion. If I called 911 every time one of those happened … Just a couple months ago I was nauseous because of the Vitamin D I was taking – it never occurred to me that I could have been having a heart attack.
Her death is heart wrenching, but I wanted to spread the word on the symptoms to look out for.
Of course I had to go track down the “Old Naked Men” thread …
@fireandrain - so sorry to hear about your friend. I guess I’ve always believed I would just know if something was truly wrong – after all, who knows me better than me? But you’re right – the symptoms of a heart attack can so easily be dismissed as something else.
@romanigypsyeyes - fingers crossed that the infusion does what it’s supposed to.
I see articles and posts about dogs needing a new home and think, briefly, that we could deal with 2 dogs … And then I remember the pup we already have – a complete wackadoo! So, unless a 2nd dog came with guarantees about having a calming effect on other dogs, I don’t see that happening.
That’s so awful, fireandrain. We can’t take anything for granted.
Thanks, Romani, We enjoy the senior dogs and it’s something we’ve sort of fallen into. abasket- I think JJ will be fine. The cats are going to wonder what the heck we are thinking!
