Ha ha, ohiopublic, that was walking. I’m scared of those mules! And too much mule crap to step around, yuck!

Wow, Busdriver. Great step count and sounds awesome!

Thanks, mowc! Was beautiful, and I’m happy that the only thing that hurts is my feet. My husband was rather flummoxed that I can keep up with him. I don’t really understand it. He’s a mega workout man, and I’m a bum.

I guess if you’re a bum, you never injure yourself.

Way to go, bus!!!

Interesting!

44,000 steps?! Did your Fitbit blow up!?

Nah, I don’t have a Fitbit, just an iPhone that counts the steps. Can’t bring myself to wear something on the wrist all day. Got a Garmen that is nice and comfortable, though.

Talk about making you feel small! We’re sitting in the pub feeling pretty good about our time, and the guys next to us (looked like our age, early fifties), told us what they’re doing at 3am tomorrow. 45 mile trail run, rim to rim to rim, over 10K elevation gain in one day. Wow.

Bus, you and your hubby absolutely, positively have to hike the Kalalau Trail on Kauai!

Bunsen, I think we might have done that twice. About 11-12 miles round trip, to the ocean? Just gorgeous, but a few dicey spots to pass?

I have running friends here who did rim to rim to rim. Well, one woman bailed at the 2nd rim and got a bus back. It’s SO hard, I can’t imagine!

I’m glad she knew her limits instead of hurting herself. Yikes!

Yes, bus, that is the trail - 12 miles one way, camp at a private beach, then back. Like hiking through the Jurassic Park (where the movie was filmed, apparently).

You know, Bunsen,my husband said I’m thinking of a different trail. I can never remember the names… too many vowels! Will have to check out yours next time, however, will probably try to day hike it. Would rather run than camp. Hotels are my kind of camping trips!

You can do it in one day without camping, but I would not recommend it! Plus, that beach is amazing. Marriott is my idea of camping, but that beach was an exception. We really wished we stayed another day.

I was digging through youtube, and this ad came on. It was PAINFUL!!!

These hikes sound wonderful! Bus, I’m really impressed.

I did two classes yesterday, one of which really soured me on TRX - and I normally enjoy it. New trainer had us do one minute sets - wanting us to achieve an arbitrary number in that one minute. They were to be done at your own pace and if you finished quickly, you got the rest of the minute to rest.

Well, I am a geezer and I am more about form than number of reps. So needless to say, I was the last one done almost every time - and sometimes I didn’t even hit the number she wanted but the minute was up and it was time to move to the next exercise. I felt like I was constantly scrambling to get to the next sequence and I had no recovery time between circuits. It’s about the first time that I felt like I was old. Followed up with a Barre class - one of the ladies in my Reformer classes came - we were chatting about age related aches and pains and she told me she was 66! I couldn’t believe it. All the more reason to keep exercising!

Five and a half this morning, another beautiful start to the day. Walked the pups, now I need to think about heading into Crankytown.

MOWC, how is your eye today?

sabaray- that sounds like a bad system for the TRX. I’m sure Michael will weigh in for us.

The eye- thanks for asking. It was mildly uncomfortable yesterday evening, but not bad. The red glob has spread and covers most of the eye, but my contact is in with no discomfort, so I can see OK.

Bunsen- I love that Taylor Swift clip. I can relate! My husband lets the cats downstairs (against my orders) sometimes when I’m on the treadmill and I’m just sure one of them is going to hop on and send me flying!

@sabaray, imo, that’s a dumb way to have a class do TRX. A good group class is one that is structured in a way that’s easy to scale to diverse abilities. So either you do a fixed number of reps without a set time limit and participants scale the difficulty by altering the load level (adjusting body angle or position relative to the handles or mount point, depending on the exercise) or you do a set for a defined amount of time and and everyone does as many reps in good form as they can within that time, thereby inherently scaling the difficulty based on the number of reps each person individually does (you can also scale the load by body position with this kind of set). Even the TRX instructor’s manual and course talk about time bound or defined repetition bound sets, not a combination of both. All that instructor did was invite bad form as participants raced to fit in the required reps in the define time and at the same time put individuals such as yourself at a real disadvantage because you were constantly scrambling to catch up and never got the benefit of a recovery between exercises. So stupid. I wonder if the instructor was an actual certified personal trainer or group fitness instructor and understood concepts of scaling group fitness classes across a range of diverse participants.

@MomofWildChild, hope you are recovering well from the eye procedure. That just sounded ghastly!

I used to really not like Taylor Swift but she has grown on me the last year or two and I really enjoy her “realness” now.

For the ladies…a “Gotta Go Skirt”???
Now a new solution may soon be available: the Gotta Go running skirt. Skirt Sports, the company that makes the product, plans to release the Gotta Go on a limited basis at the end of May. It’s a version of its running skirt that includes what the company calls “a trap door and relief hatch.”

To release the hatch, “You lift the skirt up, open the Velcro from the front, the flap comes down and there’s an opening that’s anatomically positioned,” said Nicole DeBoom, the founder and chief executive of Skirt Sports. The trap door is adjustable, to provide a personalized fit and accommodate women who want to wear sanitary napkins while running as well.
