NRE is also a huge help.

You’re right. Pretty cool watch that Fenix HR. Best price I found was $599.
My daughter just had to stop wearing her Vivosmart HR because the constant pressure caused some nerve pain.
dmd77, how tight was she wearing it. I found that I could have mine comfortably snug and still get good contact without it being any tighter than a watchband.
oops, confused the pricing with the Fenix 3. That makes it even worse for me!!
I’m getting to the point where stuff like this is really just coming out of the kids’ inheritance, so the heck with it! If you want it get it!
Don’t forget to get the chest HR strap as well.
My understanding that the chest strap is only needed for swimming. Is that not the case?
Rats. I momentarily got excited that MNK found the watch for $499.
Absolutely get it, Michael! That’s what we are here for- enabling spending! Seriously, it sounds awesome and you might be surprised at what additional features you use.
@MichaelNKat Thank you for post #51060. Have you read “faster better stronger” by Eric Heiden? He uses a similar method for measuring training zones. He uses a different periodization schedule that builds and then allows for recovery.
Buy the toy. Life is short. Are you an REI member? You will earn a member dividend.
It is a super cool watch. Something Mr. really could use. His birthday is coming up… Shhhhh… A good gift for a guy who has everything!
Another vote to get the watch Michael!
I’m doing a 10K trail run in the morning. It’s been raining all day & is supposed to continue into tomorrow morning. Sounds like this will be a fairly miserable wet & muddy experience. But I have to do it, because I paid the money - this is how my brain works.
Michael - Might as well get a color-coordinated carbon fiber to match the watch.
You are all a terrible influence!! My local bike shop is really making it tough. Because of the relationship I have with them, they will sell it to me for $450. Why did I even ask them??? So do I get the watch or spend that money building a climbing wall out back. Decisions, decisions.
Both. The watch will add two additional years to your life and the wall will add two more. This is your life we are talking about!
LOL. This is great encouragement for Michael!
My daughter is doing a fairly long ( for early season) triathlon tomorrow and posted this:
"Tomorrow’s race mantra (and if I’m honest, a good life mantra), per Coach Liz, is “You’re a strong and frisky biscuit, impervious to momentary bedragglement.”
@MaterS, I haven’t read the book but I’m aware of it and, of course, who the authors are :).
I had a good AlterG day today. 9 miles. 4 miles @ 5 min pace (2 miles @ 70% weight and 2 miles @ 80% weight).
I ran 7 miles today. Was going to take a walk with the husband, but then it started pouring. The weather is just dismal.
Weather is finally better - 9 miles this morning. Not pretty, but done.
Ok, I’m off for my muddy muddy trail run with the massive elevation gain. Yesterday I was kind of dreading it. This morning I’m thinking “Bring it On!”
Go Gertrude! Way to get it done, sabaray!
I guess I’ve been at this running thing so long that I, occasionally, actually listen to my body. I was supposed to do 10 miles this morning and I could tell before I even got out of bed that it wasn’t going to be a good idea. My husband had a cold this week, and while I didn’t get it (fingers crossed), I’m wondering if my tiredness this week was just a touch of something. I was also anxious about both my kids who are doing triathlons today and wanted to track them and not be out running for 2 hours. I decided to do my shorter run today and try the 10 tomorrow. I did 4.1 and did not feel good at all, so it’s a good thing I didn’t try the 10.
WildChild is out of the swim in a time slower than his Puerto Rico time, but you can’t really compare swims. I hope it went OK- it’s a wetsuit swim, so I would have expected a faster time. I don’t have a bike split yet. It’s supposedly one of the most difficult (some pros say THE most difficult) half ironman on the circuit. I always get nervous.
