They would be fine for pronation. Women’s sizing is different, and some shoes are constructed a little differently. There is about a size and a half difference. So a men’s 8 would require women’s 91/2. In Hoka I only go up 1/2 size from street shoe. Others I go up a full size. If you google Roadrunnersports coupon you can usually find a discount code. I’m a VIP member and get a bigger discount which I usually can combine with a coupon code.
I’ve tried several of the Hoka trail shoes and not liked any of them. I do wear the Clifton 2 on the local smooth gravel paths. The toe box on the Clifton 2 is wider than the trail shoes.
I realize you didn’t ask but I love the Altra Lone Peak 2.5 for trails, even slippery muddy ones.
Had a Rheum follow-up today. My joints continue to improve
And… I FINALLY get to fully taper off the prednisone. I have to taper at 1 mg every 2 weeks but at least there is an end in sight.
Also, doctor’s orders, I have to swim at least 2-3 times per week. I’m at a hotel for my BIL’s wedding weekend and went swimming today for about 20 minutes. I am definitely aching from it but at least I actually swam. Unfortunately, it led to me needing my wheelchair for the rest of the day because I simply couldn’t walk :(. But earlier in the day I managed to walk around the grocery store and get some food for the weekend. It was the most I’ve walked in months.
Doc also said that I probably wouldn’t lose weight for a while because my body is going to try and build up some of the muscle mass I’ve lost. I think he might’ve been telling me this so that I don’t get discouraged if I don’t see progress.
I’m also being referred to a dietitian that is connected to the Lupus clinic and works specifically with patients who have rheumatoid conditions and drug-induced obesity.
So steps forward and backwards but overall, I’m definitely farther along on the “healthy” scale than I’ve been in several months so I’ll take it
Glad your hip is hanging in there , bunsen, and glad your joints are improving romani.
Tough yoga class last night, now that it is hot outside the studio is so hot and humid the floors are literally wet. But the good news is that finally after nearly 2 years my balance poses are noticeably improving! D thinks I may be gaining core strength with the running and that sounds good to me.
Training run this AM.
Good job, FallGirl! I don’t doubt your core is getting stronger.
Exercise this morning was a big pup walk - super warm and humid already. We got home and they headed immediately for their water bowl - good reminder to drink lots of water! Bunsen, I have two melons that I am going to force myself to enjoy this weekend - for potassium and for water! Group runs planned for Saturday and Monday. Next week is a cut back week for me but I’m pleased with how the training is going.
CDC released a new study pertaining to the percentage of Americans engaging in the five healthy habits necessary for a healthy lifestyle. In a nutshell, only 6.3% of Americans engaged in all five of the following: maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, not smoking, consuming none or limited quantities of alcohol and getting 7 hours of sleep a night. The study goes into detail about the healthiest areas and the percentages of individuals engaged in combinations of these behaviors. I thought it was interesting.

Pizzagirl is considering roller skating classes and wants to know anyone’s experience and whether it would be a good workout.
When I got my new shoes a couple weeks ago, I went up a half size from my previous pair, so now I, like MOWC, am up a full size from my street shoe. The salesman at the store seemed surprised that I wanted to go that big, but they feel great, and it seems to have solved the problem I was having with my toe-tips being very sore after long runs.
That I want to see. I know I couldn’t do it! ^:)^
I’m pretty good on the five healthy habits though I do like my wine on weekends. I need to work on getting more sleep but with an elderly dog waking me up at night/ early AM it’s hard.
FallGirl - I hear you on the old dog routine. For me it is 5:30-6:00 EVERY morning. I really don’t have to set a phone alarm anymore.
I would have a hard time not having alcohol at all, but quantities are limited. Sleep is improving, which is a good thing!
I very good of 4 out of 5. Sleep - not so much, lol. But the reality is that sleep is so very important and a lack of it can undermine everything else you do. It affects weight loss and fat storage, ability to exercise, you lose focus on nutrition control. And then you end up drinking to drown your sorrows ;).
Roller skating is great! I have friends who in their younger adult years were national roller skating couples champions and they’ve returned to it as a fitness activity. They really get quite a workout from it. Plus its a lot of fun.
I drink alcohol. I am pretty good at trying to get enough sleep, but I wake up. Can’t help that.
I’ll pass the roller skating info on to PG!
Are these five factors or five elements?
'Cause if they are the latter, then I am not doing so well - I need to get one more hour of sleep to get to the healthy. Instead of an elderly dog, I am being constantly awakened by a middle aged dude and his blasted European coworkers who often have a burning need to have conference calls at 6 am!
Wow, Pizzagirl is my hero. I’d love to see that! I am picturing her looking like this:

Well, well… I am having my first issue with Fitbit! It has worked great up until yesterday when I noticed that the time on the display was off by a few minutes. This morning, it is off by close to half an hour. I synced it with the “mothership”, but it is still off. Weird. I need to research that, but if anyone had this problem, I’d love to hear your input. Both step counting and HR tracking do not seem to be affected by that. Triple weird.
The injected leg has not fallen off, so that’s good.
If am fine on 4 of 5. No way I could get 7 hours of sleep a night though. I get about 5. No alarm. I just wake up. I blame it on pre-paid sleep as a teen.
I guess I’m doing pretty well on all 5, although I could definitely be better about moving around more during my work day. Sleep is one of my hobbies, so doing great there!
20-yr old D is home from college & wants to run again, like we did last summer, so I’m going through C25K with her again. We will do a 5K together on July 30. Fun! I couldn’t talk 16-yr old D into it unfortunately.
PG said to tell you she expects to spend a majority of the time on the ground picking herself up.
My Lulu Run with the Sun bra and the Align blue crops arrived yesterday which was REALLY fast. Apparently they now have a warehouse in Ohio. Used to take a week for me to get Lulu orders.
I really, really like both. The blue is a gorgeous shade and the bra has a very interesting back and will be nice to wear when it gets really hot and I do the no shirt summer thing. It’s very comfortable, too.
I don’t know what you all are doing with your Fitbits! I’ve never had a problem, knock on wood. The 250 steps an hour is very frustrating though - I want to do it but honestly don’t have the kind of work space that’s conducive to lengthy strolls about the building! So I end up getting a lot of steps early and late in the day and at lunch when I head home to let the pups out.
All of PG’s strength work will come in handy!
sabaray- I’ve had really good luck with my FitBit, too. Fingers crossed. I agree about the buzzing for the 250 step reminder. I can go and walk enough around the floor of my building or other floors to do it, but if I’m on a call or in a meeting I can’t!
