MOWC - we must be wired the same. I was an absolute wreck when my daughter used to run. I was pretty much a helicopter run Dad! Preparations the night before, massage, reviewing course/race strategy and pre night meal. Day of race—notes in her lunch bag, track bag and spikes. At a CC meet, I would have my points on the course that were preselected so I could be at strategic locations to cheer her. I would put in 2 miles for 5k race.
My son will be in Syracuse tonight for work. He’s upset that he won’t be home tonight for the Cavs big game. I can’t watch these games. If they do poorly then I know that I’m partly responsible for watching.
Headed out for a 60 miler up and back to downtown Cleveland.
No run this morning, but a fun trip to the park with Sabadog and Sabapup to celebrate Father’s Day - Happy Father’s Day to all of our thread dads!
This MAF stuff is excruciating but I know it’s good for me. Happily already seeing some improvements over the previous week, which is good because I don’t know that I could stick with it if there wasn’t any improvement at all. I need to watch the creep - the last 45 minutes were the worst. Beautiful days both yesterday and today.
Yeah- sounds familiar. The added joy with triathlon is you get to worry about their safety! Will they drown, crash their bike, have heat stroke on the run???
I’m pulling for the Warriors because one of my Vandy favorites is the backup center and a fantastic person- Festus Ezeli. As for being responsible as a spectator for sports victories, a tiny part of me was relieved that Vandy didn’t get to the college World Series this year because then I didn’t have to get them through each game!
Fathers Day has started out perfectly. Lots of heavy deadlifts followed up by taking my push-pull sled for a walk/jog around my development. Now off to a pool party at our soon to be in-laws then back for a BBQ at our house.
I know how you feel MOWC and Ohio about our kids competing. My son will never let me helicopter but every time he has a competition, I’m on pins and needles until he texts us the results and confirms all his bones and joints are intact, lol.
So far my son is listed as 2nd overall for the half Ironman. Not trusting the results quite yet since he was first and all of a sudden someone else got listed.
Thanks. I’m still not sure he’s ok. His friend finished after him and had my son’s phone in his bag. I talked to him, but he hadn’t located my son. He did check medical and he wasn’t there. That guy said it was so hot that it was a matter of attrition.
He’s fine. Thanks. He said the guy who won started well behind him in the younger age group wave, which is why my son finished “first” until that guy finished, My son passed everyone in the 2 waves that started ahead of him (40s), so he had the lead bike with him for awhile, which was really cool. He said in some ways it was better than when he won Poconos 70.3 a couple of years ago because since it had pros, he was tangled up with them and didn’t finish in the top 10 even (he won amateur). This race didn’t have pros, so he got to be in the front. He said it was hot and really hilly, so he paced himself on the run so he didn’t blow up. I guess someone from one of the earlier waves got by him on the run (but had started well ahead of him) and my son crossed the finish line 2nd.
Congrats to Wild Child–sounds like he had a great ride!
Nice sledding, notrichenough!
H and I took our bikes up to the trail again today for a mostly cloudy, slightly rainy and windy 25 mile ride. I’m slowly learning how to use the available gears correctly. Boy, what a difference it makes to save the legs with an easier gear, rather than fighting up every hill. As an added bonus, Fitbit rewarded my ride with a record breaking 65 flights of stairs and a little trophy Walked another 4 miles.
