At least you weren’t going to bite the buffet, PG!

@C3Baker Here is another good BQ race happening just before the deadline - Skagit Flats. Not very scenic, but it benefits a great cause and is super flat. You can tuck on a day or two and visit Seattle or Vancouver BC - they are equal distance from where the race is held - just flip a coin. An outlet mall nearby has a Lulu outlet (which I have never been to because we always drive through that area with Mr. ).

I personally know 2 people for whom this was their first BQ race.

I am rolling on the floor laughing at what sabaray said! Lol!!!

Cheat Sheet recently had a great article about one huge benefit of drinking water (citing a 2015 study, but some oldies are goodies and are worth repeating):

Yup. Before a meal. And it is not just an old wives’ tale.

PG–I went to Canyon Ranch when I turned 60 and did a range of tests including the VO2 Max and Dexascan. I found out that I have good bones (good score–1.5 deviations above the mean) and that my VO2 Max score was at the low-end of the high category. (I’m not a runner, but work on including cardio in my mix of exercise.) My PCP (I took both sets of results to her) said to keep on doing what I was doing. If you’re curious, go ahead and do the tests.

Went to my first Pilates mat class yesterday and did a Mellow (slow flow) yoga class today. Mat class was not easy (nothing is easy for me–I am an absolute klutz find it all hard but just try to hang-in and keep moving). Some of the stuff we did was similar to yoga. I have to take classes for a month before I can do the machines.

Bumping us up!

Didn’t do NOTHING today, but apparently didn’t do a lot as I made my steps but not a whole lot more. Ready for the weekend!

Two major deadlines and a bunch of people dragging their feet. Tomorrow is going to be interesting. Not a whole lot of meaningful movement because of this. Spent the entire day sitting. Sigh.

Checking in:

I’m down 7 lb from my peak weight a few weeks ago. I fully understand that it is almost completely water weight that I’ve lost (since I’m almost completely off the prednisone now!) but I’m slowly losing my moon face (which makes me look like I’m 100 lb bigger than I am) so I’m happy.

I had an MRI today (at 2:30 AM- and yes, it was scheduled and not an emergency MRI) because they think there might be something wrong with my sciatic nerve which is causing the bad pain when I walk. So now we wait and then I go back into PT.

Romani, water weight loss is a good start. A pound of water is a pond of weight your scaffold is supporting. The sooner it is off, the better. Fingers crossed.

Romani, I am glad to hear you’re coming off the Prednisone. That is good news.

My Oofos arrived yesterday and I cannot believe I didn’t know about these sooner! They are a little long but I think a size smaller would be too small. Sabapup had to inspect them and was sternly warned they were off limits.

Rest day today; I have not done anything but running this week yet I am tired. I keep getting emails about registering for Richmond (2 weeks after MCM) and for a brief moment I was actually thinking about it. Then I thought better of it!

I hear you about work, Bunsen - that and our crazy weather has made life challenging this week. Happy Friday, everyone!

Sabaray- I’m sort of between Oofos sizes, too. I think I have some of each.

I saw a contented, sleeping baby in a jog stroller today and decided I want to come back as a child who has a mom/dad that would push me in a jog stroller!

When my first son was born, I was one of the first buyers of a jog stroller and had full intentions of taking him out on runs. Unfortunately life, work got in the way. My wife did use it as our permanent stroller because the ride was easier on the kids.

I see them everywhere now. I cringe when I see parents using them on the sides of busy roads. (I don’t like to see runners on the sides of busy roads)

We had one of the first running strollers (Baby Jogger brand was all there was) in Dallas and THE first double! My husband could push it at a 6 minute pace. We got a lot of attention and publicity. It was fun and the kids loved it. Sometimes they would throw a blankie or something out, and we would have to retrieve it (not fun in a race). We were good about starting at the back of races. The double was heavy to push. I used the strollers a lot to train. Back then they weren’t collapsible and had to be taken apart with tools to put them in the car or go on vacation.

Yesterday was awful fitness -wise. Spent most of the day on the road traveling home and with taking the “scenic” route, the food options were limited. I have to keep telling myself “it’s only one day”. The healthiest thing I did was sign up for the fun run.

Back at it today. Ran 3.6 this AM - not my fastest run , but I did it.

I’ve been looking for some “new” menu items and saw a smoothie that looked appealing - described as “loaded with healthy fats, antioxidants, amino acids and NO added sugar”. Sounded good until I looked at the ingredients - who keeps this stuff at their house? The more unusual items included: collagen hydrolysate, virgin coconut oil, raw cacao nibs and “grass fed ghee”. Might need to pop out to the store for a few of those! Are these things common?

“Raw cacao nibs” = chocolate chips in my world…

I will actually admit to having the cacao nibs, but they weren’t purchased for health reasons! Can’t recall what I was making (that’s what a success it was - not) but I do have them.

FallGirl, I think it just bears repeating - it’s one day. Getting back out there is the important part. How was the food tour? Did you enjoy your trip?

The department that reports to me had a pizza lunch- not the greatest pizza and not what I needed for lunch- but so it goes. It rained overnight so it was a tiny bit cooler this morning and not quite as miserable. I’m not looking forward to my longer run in the morning. I really need to focus on slowing down and hitting all the water fountains.

I’ll be right there with you - 2 hours tomorrow which doesn’t sound nearly as bad as last weekend then I’m headed over the mountain for some shopping. Lunch today was leftover chicken fajita stuff with brown rice and a little cheese. I’d rather have pizza.

The office is having a healthy lunch treat… wait for it… fat-free sugar-loaded goodies. But they are fat free!! I spotted a Beecher’s grilled cheese sandwich at Starbucks yesterday. Hope they still have it on the menu!

I had a decent 5 mile run last night. Today is a rest day.

@BunsenBurner - thanks for the marathon suggestions. Anchorage would be tempting sometime when we’re able to properly plan for another Alaska trip. I was interested in the Skagit Flats marathon until I realized that D will be on vacation in Greece then and if I’m going to WA, I want to do it when she is around to be able visit her. H is now interested in the Super Tunnel Run in late August (same course as the Light at the End of the Tunnel marathon). I don’t know if it will happen or not, but it’s under consideration. I’m a little uncertain as it’s only 2 months to train for it. I think it’s possible, as we have been doing half marathons pretty regularly, but I don’t know.

I love seeing parents and families out running with the running strollers.
