Yup, BB found a good video. And using a step on your staircase is a great practical suggestion. The box used in the video is too high for most people.

An interesting article talking about how stress affects our appetite and why some lose weight and some gain during periods of stress:

ohio public-Must see sights in Toronto are : Casa Loma, CD tower and Centre Island. There appear to be a lot of parks (we stayed near U of Toronto which is a lovely area). I admit that all of my running was on the hotel treadmill, but Centre Island as well as the 2 smaller islands would be a terrific place to run. Did a lot of walking as we really enjoy walking through neighborhoods. Our food tour was n Greektown and I highly recommend eating there. Also there is a large market downtown with lots of food stalls.

9 miles done instead of the planned 7 1/2 or 8. I really kept the pace down and HR down well for the first 6 miles, then my HR got higher. It was warm and humid but with a cloud cover, which helped a lot. I was soaked, but felt pretty OK at the end for a change. I think I was just anxious to wrap it up towards the end and let the pace get a little faster. Slowing down is really a lot better for me- especially on the longer runs. 10:55 average pace. HR average per mile under 140 (well under 140 for first 5 miles) until the last couple of miles.

Did my parallettes and enhanced body weight routine last night. Just finished doing sets of DB squats and heavy deadlifts. My choice now is to go outside and play on my playground and with my sled or vacuum and mop my studio. It’s blue skies, sunshine and moderate temps. I know what I’m doing ;).

Dang, I could have run with MOWC this morning with that pace! Not sure if I’d last 9 miles though!!

Bowing to you who even rise early on the weekend to get a long run in - I’m guessing you must be out quite early due to the heat. I don’t sleep late - sleeping to 8am is a gift! - and this time of year by 9 it’s getting quite warm.

A run planned later along with an hour or so of grass cutting. Took a long walk with pup this morning. Made some fun food choices at the farmer’s market and the local Mexican market this morning. Roasting some beets and carrots right now to make room for the new fresh stuff I bought this morning in the refrig!!!

10 miles for me. Longest run in 40 years. 8:11 avg pace. Started out 8:50 - last mile 9:10. Hot one.

Excellent, Ohio! Abasket- have to run early here!

Well, my weekend activities have just got scheduled: 25 yards of super fine bark are on the way to our house.

Mulch. The downfall of weekend leisure time in the U.S.

Geez, I thought moving 5 yards was a lot. ^:)^

Humidity about did me in this morning! 66 degrees and 100% humidity at 6 am. Blech. Ended up doing a bit over 2 hours. Pace was terrible, but reminded myself it was time on my feet - I really need better routes, but the ideal routes are ones I don’t want to do solo. Headed over the mountain as Mr. Sabaray needed a new jacket and I of course needed some new things at Lulu. Picked up a pace rival skirt in rosewood and a white singlet with mesh inserts. Had lunch at Mezeh, a bowl type restaurant similar to Chipotle. No mulch at my house!

Way to get it done, sabaray! Nice haul at Lulu, too. I have a company event tonight at the minor league baseball stadium- dinner and watching the game. Hot…

Good job today everyone, in the heat and humidity. 100% humidity at 6:00 a.m. sabaray - I’m surprised you didn’t have your own private rain cloud following you around! Remember in all this humidity to monitor your body temperature - your sweat can’t evaporate to cool you off.

Mulch? That would require weeding. I guess all our beds are going to look like a jungle this summer :D.

Great run, Ohio. I am really impressed.

Nre, I think we will move about half of the bark this weekend, and there are 3 of us, including our niece who is staying with us while she is taking a class at a local U during their summer quarter. The bark smells heavenly, and it drives the neighbors batty: are the Bunsens getting ready to sell their house?

It was very foggy, Michael! Pretty typical for my neck of the woods.

Couple months old but an interesting study on static stretching and the original study on dynamic stretching.
http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/01/21/stretching-back-to-the-past/?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share

While I haven’t read the full study, the abstract, at least, seems to suggest that the article overstated its conclusions. For example, the abstract does state that there is a small to moderate loss of of performance due to static stretching which seems to disappear if you add in some dynamic stretching. It also stated that pre -exercise stretching did not seem to impact on injury prevention. All in all, the abstract seemed to be saying that the data is very inconclusive. Which is what the take away was when I got my Functional Fitnesss and Assessment certification about about two years ago. At least with dynamic stretching, if done right, you are simulating the movement patterns you wil be doing during the event itself.

Below are some articles on stretching. What’s kind of interesting is that the article posted by Ohio and the articles I am posting below all involve studies based on reviewing prior studies. Given the number of studies reviewed, there’s got to be some overlap yet different conclusions about static stretching?

Then there’s this one; see Myths 1&2 (the rest of the article is pretty interesting too  .)

Here’s a good article about sacral stress fractures, which is what I’ve had- I think twice, although different parts of the bone and many, many years apart (1979 and 2014). I know this was ruled out in Bunsen’s case, but it’s something to keep in mind if you have pain in the butt/hip area, especially for women.

3.2 miles done before it gets too horribly hot.
