How’s your hamstring today, Michael?

Boy- coming back from cooler weather to horrible humidity and 79 degrees at 7am did NOT go well. I was tired from the travel day (and all the upper body work yesterday of carrying a 16 pound cat in a carrier through airports and parking lots) and didn’t get up in time to drive somewhere shady for a 5 miler. 4.1 done, but it wasn’t pretty!

Ran a 10k. Never ran a race before in my life. It is hot- very hot- but it is done. 90 minutes. Got the shirt.

Thanks for asking MOWC. It’s manageable. Going to need to rehab it for sure. But I was able to do the ride yesterday and dance at a wedding last night :). Have tenderness and soreness with limitations in range of motion. Going to make an appointment for PT. The real challenge will be not to overdo it while healing.

You left PA just as thunderstorms are rolling in tonight. Humidity is up but hopefully the rain will deal with that.

Congratulations, jym. A hot, summer, crowded 10K is quite the debut into road races! You are selling yourself short. Your time was 1:23 + officially!

It is pouring rain here today - not a great 4th! 3.5 miles this morning before the rain. Hope everyone enjoys the day!

It is raining here, too! Never fails to rain on the 4th here in Seattle!

Jym - congrats!!! Great job. Hope the shirt is a nice one.

Thanks. It was 90 min or so by the time we got through the park, got the Tshirt, a towel and met up with friends. I’ll take 1:23!! Didn’t know they posted the times that fast.
I do admit I found it amusing when I actually ran past other people. That was a first.

With electronic timing, the results are pretty instantaneous.

Perfect day on Cape/islands–early am training (really good session). Took my bike to the gym. Drivers on vacation aren’t careful–I was happy to get off the road and on the bike path as soon as I could. Will walk dogs later today to get my steps.

Congratulations on your race Jym.

Happy 4th everyone!

Beautiful weather at the beach. I took a long walk this morning on a deserted beach – me and the seagulls. It was glorious.

Congrats on the race, jym. And Michael, hope you heal quickly.

Congrats Jym! That’s awesome!

Did a 2 hr bike ride then did a Pilates class. Now sitting waiting for yoga place to open so I can go in and get a nice little savasana in a warm room before a noon class. Happy Fourth, all.

Michael, take good care of yourself.

Congrats jym ! That’s impressive.

I ran my second ever 5k this AM. It was a “fun run” so while I did get a shirt, there were no number bibs and no official times. Unofficially ( MapMyRun) I was about 2 minutes ahead of what I ran a few weeks ago.

It was an interesting course. It was in a nearby town which is semi rural though one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country. We ran through what was literally a cow pasture ( I was warned to watch my step for uneven spots as well as …) then through a street with large homes, past a horse pen, etc. Quite interesting.

My kids ran a race in NYC, but have not told me their results so I will have to google.

Way to go, FallGirl. Glad you didn’t hit any uneven spots!

Bravo to FallGirl and JYM!

Great job, FallGirl!

Niece is doing homework for her class… As soon as she is done, we will head out for a walk on the trail.

I haven’t made it to the gym lately because I’ve been working out in other ways. Today I spread mulch for 3.5 hours. I used muscles I don’t normally use, and I can certainly feel it now. My fingers and forearms are reminding me they exist. Hopefully I will be able to move tomorrow, because I have a job interview.

Good luck, @1214mom ! I hope you are not too sore. I can relate. My mulch-spreading muscles had a really good workout this long weekend!

Great racing this weekend everyone!

Just watched 800 Meter Olympic trials. Clayton Murphy from nearby Akron won. He’s a come from behind runner with great closing speed. Reminiscent of Dave Wottle.

@MichaelNKat

Thanks for your long response.

Some of these I do as little mini-circuits of 2-4 machines. When doing a circuit, is it necessary to wait that long between sets if each station works a different muscle?

Yes, this is a good summation. I know my core in particular is weak.

Dumb question, but what counts as a “body part” for this? Legs, back, chest, core, arms?

I have a lot of fear of exercises that put a lot of compressive force on my spine, I do not want to risk a re-injury of my back. I know squats are great but…

Not sure what this… is this increasing the weight with each set? How do you choose how much to increase? Should I be hitting failure?

Twice a week is an overstatement, it has worked out to once every 4 or 5 days. In between I mostly walk, usually 3-3.5 miles at 3.7-3.8 mph, usually with about 250 vertical feet of climb.

Funny, today is day three (I lifted on Friday) and I feel pretty good.

I will reduce the number of different exercises I do and work towards more sets. I honestly feel like I could do three sets now for many of them because I don’t find the current weight that hard. So I am unsure as to how hard to push myself and how slowly/quickly to ramp up the weight.

Of the exercises I listed, which ones are keepers?

Thanks again for the amount of brain power you are spending on me.
