Bunsen- what are they looking for? I know this is frustrating!
^^Sounds anazing!
Not even close to MOfWC’s super step count, but I had a fair share of steps today, too, gathering missing supplies for Thanksgiving and feeding my “godkitty” - her brother died a few months ago, and I was worried how she will handle being alone while her humans are gone. The kitty was fine.
So all of you know that I’m a big fan of body weight suspension training for a variety of reasons. TRX, responsible for bringing suspension training to mainstream fitness, has now come out with a new product called the Duo. It’s the offspring of TRX straps and traditional gymnastics rings featuring TRX style handles with 2 independently suspended adjustable straps. The result is that you can do pull ups, dips and other rings type of strength building exercises as well as familiar TRX movements. It will be interesting to see if it takes off. The cost of the Duo is about 2 1/2X the cost of a decent set of rings but the handles are less imposing to the uninitiated and the Duo has the benefit of TRX’s massive development and support systems. I’m having a lot of difficulty restraining myself but even with my 30% discount, my cost would be 2X the cost of a good set of rings and I already have both an indoor steel pair and an outdoor plastic pair. Of course, rationality rarely has any bearing on my exercise equipment buying behavior, lol.
Happy Thanksgiving to all! I fully intend to enjoy the day with family, friends, and food – but all in moderation! (IMO, politics have no place at the table; if H violates this rule, he’ll be getting “The Look” from me.)
After I make an appetizer to bring, I’m off for an urban walk, sans pup, who is enjoying her play day at the local boarding facility.
Go for it, Michael! Ohio will encourage you!
Lol, MOWC, I already went to the TRX website and the Duo’s are temporarily sold out! My next recourse is to talk to the Northeast regional commercial rep who I’m dealing with about the new studio and see whether she can get me a set to play with. If I really like it and feel that it can be used in a scaled manner for neophytes to suspension training through experienced users, I would seriously consider it for the studio instead of a traditional TRX rig. In the meantime, I’m gonna hang my rings from my power rack in my personal training studio and experiment with some new movements. Long weekends are so nice!
Have a good Thanksgiving everyone.
I don’t think Michael is a real person. I’m thinking he’s a clever product placement blogger that posts on this board causing me to buy all of his suggestions. I’m hoping he’s paid well!
Lol. When I was a kid, I would eagerly await each snow storm so that I could shovel all the driveways and sidewalks in my parents’ development. Everyone thought I was so industrious but my real motivation was that I always had a list of “toys” I wanted to get. Now, decades later, nothing has really changed except most of my “toys” can be written off as a business expense!
Boy- tough run. I climbed up the old Santa Fe Trail (it’s a road now) and it wasn’t steep, but it was a climb the whole way. Turned around at 2 miles and explored some side streets. Nothing is flat. Very, very windy. 5 miles done. Daughter and son in law are going to hike up a mountain.
Happy Thanksgiving All!
Turkey Trot report: I had hoped to run the first 2 miles before walking, I ran all the way. I had hoped to run 33.00, ran 31.08. Placed 8/37 in my age group!
I am thrilled! Will celebrate with pumpkin pie and wine.
I came down with a cold in the middle of the movies last night. Really glad I didn’t sign up for the Turkey Trot. It really is amazing how you can be fine one minute, and then all of a sudden you feel crappy.
Whoo hoo Fallgirl! Way to go!
It turns out there was a Turkey Trot here after all and even with all our research we didn’t find it. Boo.
Drove up to the ski mountain to see snow. It’s not open yet, but there were a lot of people checking out the snow.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving - my bed is calling me soon!
Great job, FallGirl - that’s awesome!
I had a great run (for me) at our local Turkey Trot - four miles on a route I’m very familiar with - told myself I just needed to do it. It’s a small (1200 runner) field, so they were dividing runners by sub 8 minutes, 8 to 10 minutes, and everyone else. Lacking confidence, I put myself in the everyone else group which was a huge mistake as I found myself behind groups of walkers who evidently thought they were walking 8 minute miles. Oh well! Ended up running a 10 minute pace and was very happy with that as that is a huge improvement for me over recent efforts.
Lots of cooking today, D was a huge help and dinner was a success. Now I am ready for bed!
Elliptigo Arc is $899 - Black Friday special!!
^^^On their website? (just asking in case anyone is interested).
GREAT races Fallgirl and Sabaray. FallGirl you should be thrilled with that time! Must have been some good running conditions in your part of the world (for both of you).
Did my own Turkey Trot this morning - all by myself! Many formal races around here but I just can’t fit in the race, cooking and traveling out of town for the day! FULLY enjoyed a piece of pecan pie along with the regular turkey and sides.
THANKFUL for all the support and great conversation here on this thread!
Sabaray- that is OUTSTANDING! Starting from the back (you learned…) and running 10 minute miles! Excellent race!
My tofurkey trot went just fine. Cold rain, a short course according to my Garmin (although apparently I may have missed a turn because the course wasn’t marked correctly?), and I was slightly slower than last year although parts felt really good.
Thanksgiving dinner included a completely-from-scratch pumpkin pie made by my daughter–it was great.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Got a run in yesterday and saw the floats coming down Central Park West. Ran today too. If my winter mileage could be in 25-30 mile/week range I’d be happy.
Santa Fe sounds awesome, MOWC.
deb922 – definitely stay out of the woods in hunting season! Eek!
Congratulations to all the racers! Just back from the gym; 3.8 miles done.
Fun Thanksgiving with H’s side of the family. We’ve been doing this since all our collective kids were little – yesterday there were 3 from the next generation! (Yeah, so leaving our pup at the boarding place was definitely the right call.) We FaceTimed 2x with S, who had driven 11 hours to San Antonio to spend Thanksgiving (& this weekend) with one of his ROTC cohorts and her friends. (At this base in FL, as long as he doesn’t get on a plane, he doesn’t have to take leave. There are no restrictions, however, on how far away he goes if he drives. At his prior base in NJ, he could only be 5 hours away by car without taking leave.)
On this afternoon’s schedule: finalizing the guest list and save-the-date cards for D’s wedding.
