Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

MoWC, you continue to amaze at how you always run more miles than you plan.

I had no idea Pilates was so expensive, Sabaray. I pay $50/month for a gym membership and with discounts, about $10/class for yoga. I spend a lot of money on clothing, though. I used to meet with a trainer every 3-4 months, but now I figure out my own weight lifting plan.

I ran today for the last time in 2016, so I can figure out my numbers. 526 miles ran this year, which is a lot more than last year (although I can’t find last year’s number). Swam about 55 miles and biked at least 165 miles.

I ran in only 2 races this year, both 10Ks. I’m fine with that.

That’s about 2 races more than me, fireandrain!

Fireandrain- Well, the original plan is often the mileage I wind up running, but when I start out I mentally scale it back since I usually feel awful to start! I’m still going to have a low week to finish this year because of the 5K on Saturday. If I don’t have a really light Friday the race will kill me. It has huge hills.

Group classes are substantially cheaper, but I get a lot more out of the one on one training. I love my trainer or I probably wouldn’t have stuck with it.

With group classes, it really depends on the group. Some groups are better matched… Some not so much, and the instructor inevitably ends up catering to a certain level within that group.

I feel restless because I cannot lift even moderately heavy objects for a few days!!! Mr. B hid my puny 5-lb weights, just in case.

Did you have the surgery already?

Yes, thanks, I did. The good news is that everything the surgeon could see was normal. Eating Tylenol. The bad news… the saga continues. Going to work tomorrow 'cause I have to. Dressing will be a challenge. Thank goodness for holdups!

@CountingDown I have to second that idea of consulting. You seem to feel an obligation to them - which is wonderful - but not at the risk of your health and sanity. And if your H doesn’t want you home all day? No worries! You’ll be out getting exercise, enjoying fresh air, shopping for healthier food, taking a healthy cooking class, planting a garden, etc. !

I can fully sense your frustration and desire to get back on track. I want to fully sense you feeling back on track and feeling healthy progress. I know you can do it!

Geez, Bunsen! I’m glad everything is OK, but what now for your pain?

I will have a chat with my doc in a week and will let my doc decide on the next move. The major causes have been ruled out… We shall be exploring the more obscure causes!

Sending the good wishes for feeling better and for figuring out what’s going on, bunsen.

CD- have you tried a walking program. I know this might need to wait until the weather gets better. Look into local running groups as the one I did has 4 different walking levels. Too bad we don’t live closer- I would like a walking buddy!

^^^Great idea - if “only” we were all closer!

Don’t think less of me…I LOVE having family around and truly enjoy all the time with them but I am starting to miss my routine! Exercise routine, eating routine, sleeping routine. Not really missing work too much. (though I’m working a little at home). I genuinely look forward to a week of regular exercise and NOT cooking so much and NOT having so much food around!

Bunsen, hope you’re feeling okay today.

Awakened at 2 am by sleet/snow blowing into the house - hard to get back to sleep and the weather was not great this morning, so headed to the gym. 3.7 on the treadmill. That’s about as long as I could stand it! I’m feeling pretty tired.

Once again it’s our threadiversary - most of us have been here for 7 years today. Hard to believe! Thanks for hanging out, offering advice, keeping me motivated and helping me through some really tough times. You all have really helped me stick with it.

Congrats to all who’ve been here that long! I’ve felt very welcomed and supported even though I am in and out, based on my fitness levels. Hope nobody gets the “7 year itch” and starts dallying with other threads

I would never stray. I occasionally glance at other threads. But I rarely follow through.

Congratulations to our thread and to Sabaray for getting us started. Missing iDad!

3.2 miles and I’m going to run a mile home from the vet where I’m introducing our new old doggie.

iDad was a huge presence here and is definitely missed. I miss all the dinner descriptions especially! I think I may need some barbecue this weekend in his honor.

7 years - wow. I’ll look at that as lucky “7” - and let’s go for 7 more!

Wow- my mile run home from the vet was less comfortable than the 3.2 I did earlier. The wind had picked up and I was a little damp and chilled anyway. Wind makes a huge difference. I made it!

At least 7 more! We will all be at the senior center doing water aerobics by then.

^ Hopefully at the senior center together
