Congrats to the Wild family! That’s great - you all should be featured in Runner’s World!
@FallGirl - you’ve really progressed a lot this year - that’s awesome. You should be really proud of everything you’ve accomplished.
This year I had 205 running workouts or races. I had 151 Pilates or Pilates related workouts. I exercised 356 times this year, intentional walking excluded. I need a vacation. This exercise business is hard work.
I cannot believe the year is almost over! What a way to finish the year, everyone! Congrats to WildChild family on a family sweep! Treasure those pinecones.
I still cannot do much exercise-wise, but I am off Tylenol and only took a couple of Advils since last evening. Fingers crossed I will be able to drink a glass of champagne and dance a little tonight. Mr. B is convinced that I am part cat… I think I’ve used some of my lives though this year.
Sabaray- you win for impressive workouts and getting it done this year! You have such a good balance.
Bunsen- here’s hoping you can enjoy your evening. My money is on you!
The big awards at this race (overall, overall masters etc) were these big hand painted gourd things (I guess planters or decorative items). My son looked over at the table in horror and said “Are THOSE the awards?” I said, “Don’t worry. We get the pine cones. Those are for overall!”
Congrats FallGirl! That’s an impressive journey! Too funny about your age. At some races, depending who was jotting things down, I am 34 or 54 or 58.
ohiopublic – thanks for saying what I (more and more often) feel – this run wasn’t fun. I would say maybe 1 out of every 3 or 4 just aren’t fun. Trying to figure out why (aches, not enough sleep or water, build up of fatigue and stress).
Congrats to all the 5Kers today! There’s a midnight run tonight (which I didn’t sign up for). Best wishes to all for a safe and happy NYE!
Happy New Year everyone. Congratulations to all for another year of fitness, racing, winning, overcoming set-backs, ignoring the doubters and naysayers, setting new goals and just being good to yourself. Here’s to a new year of successes and good health. Now it’s time for me do some cardio in anticipation of ignoring all my normal nutritional planning tonight, lol!
I spent yesterday and today at a dog event, so more sprinting instead of running. I finished up my year with 639 miles of running (after 528 last year), with 58 miles last month, so I am steadily moving toward that average of 20 miles/week that I’m trying to reach. (It’s hard when I don’t run on dog-event days. I walk a lot–usually around 20K steps or more–but that doesn’t count.)
I will say, however, that I am elated by our last dog agility run of the year. It required finesse, timing, sprinting, precision, and my standard poodle boy and I pulled it off for fourth (of 15) in a very fast group of dogs. I started running and working out four years ago (at Christmas) in an effort to keep up with this dog–and I’m finally getting there.
I bought labneh ready to go from our local middle eastern market. You could also sub in plain greek yogurt and maybe strain it a bit first - or if you make Instapot yogurt that is thick enough.
It’s beautiful looking for one. Also filling, fruity and savory all at the same time. Serve with cut up veggies (or a bread or cracker if you are ok w/additional carbs.
Bunsen, I have to say that I am proud of you. You have persevered through some really challenging medical issues, doing your weights, riding your Elliptigo, coming here with great articles and encouragement for the rest of us - I so want 2017 to be a better year for you!
@abasket, I will be making that for sure. That looks really delicious. I’m starting a recipe file to keep links in.
Finished 2016 with a really painful 5k. I did the race in 2014 and the route has since changed. Much hillier. I was smart though and lined up in front this time. I was a little nervous about the route and it being dark - it was an out and back so there will hills in every direction. I was glad to finish at around a 10:30 pace, particularly after a long difficult run that morning. Mr. Sabaray and I enjoyed a dinner out and I made it through the ball drop.
Beautiful here this morning, got out for an easy 5k, not a race, just a relaxed run. Here’s to 2017!
Good work, all. I, too, hope for some answers and a better year for you, Bunsen!
Sabaray- that is an excellent 5K for hills and following a morning 7 mile run!
Got out the door on tired legs and managed 5 miles. My goal for this year is to do more of my training runs even slower. That didn’t happen today. I think it FELT slow since I raced yesterday, but it wasn’t as slow as I wanted it to be to feel more comfortable.
One funny thing- My daughter and I have a friend from our RunningAhead group who is a wonderful woman and runner in northern California. She does a lot of ultras and trail running (ultras) and marathons. She says, “5Ks are SO hard! You can’t sit down in the middle of them!” I was thinking about that yesterday.
I am ready to join this get fit club. Just want to have a healthier version of me and adopt new habits that will last a lifetime. I just need to get back to the routine but will start slow and work on endurance.
My goal for 2017 is to make better dietary decisions (way less sugar) and exercise 3 times a week. I’ve been inspired reading the posts on this thread and hope that I too will be soon recording my successful efforts at improving my health.
Great to see you @raclut and @hoosiermom! I can’t tell you how good it makes us all feel to see more people participating on this thread.
Always remember that many of us started out as not much more than couch potatoes who ate too many potatoes. One step at a time, admit your successes and your “fails” or faults and keep on trying and keep on posting. SOO much good advice here.
I had a fitness moment today. Was out on a walk with my D before I went for a run. I saw a guy in the neighborhood - 2 of our kids went to school together - running down the street. As he started running past us he paused and said, "HEY! You’re the reason I’m out here running! I saw you running yesterday and I thought if you’re out there, I better get out there! " ME? Inspiring someone? I have to tell you that made me feel all kinds of good.
It wasn’t someone telling me in a “fluffy” way - “how nice that you exercise!” It was someone valuing the motivation in not the most perfect conditions (winter in Ohio!) and recognizing it.
That comment by him is going to carry me through at LEAST January!
So, walk with D and then my own 5k - nice start to 2017!
Welcome raclut and hoosiermom. Start today. Even if it is 1 push-up or 1 flight of stairs. Track your activity with a fitness tracker and your diet with MyFitnessPal. Makes a big difference.
Welcome! I need to get serious about sugar reduction. I feel crummy and I know it’s from all the holiday sugar. By holiday sugar, I mean daily since before Halloween! Ugh.
