Woke up with new resolve to get back on a diet after all the sweets I ate last night. Brownie after brownie from a holiday buffet. My favorite kind – frosted with chopped walnuts on top. And cookies too – chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, big and fat and soft from being made with real butter. Must have had at least a dozen – they were SO good. Then I realized: it was a dream. I dreamt I ate all those cookies. So now I’m having a plain donut to compensate. Which makes no sense.
Thanks to BB, HerRoom had my favorite sports bra that’s been discontinued so I ordered 2!
Zuilly has Oofos today, I saw that there were several clogs if anyone is looking.
The weather has been beyond awful. The warm up has made tons of ice. I was having problems getting out, I’ve even been uncomfortable walking to the mail box as my driveway is a sheet of ice. It looks like the roads have been plowed enough to maybe walk on this afternoon. I’m having major cabin fever. Yesterday I made the trek to lululemon. Bought a fleece, a turtleneck and a gym bag. So much for my no shopping resolution!
Thanks, deb, for the Zullily intel! Mr. B loves his Oofos slides. Need to get him another pair.
2.5 mile pup walk to the center of town and back. Perhaps a bike ride later …
Thanks for the Oofos info, deb! My preferred pair fell victim to Sabapup. Ice is the worst.
Ran 6.4 this morning, easy pace.
I made a delicious beef ragu served over polenta, steamed spinach on the side yesterday. Highly recommended.
^ That is from one of D’s favorite food bloggers. She was just talking about it recently. I am so not a cook, but I do crockpot so I copied it. Although - I grew up eating polenta made by my northern Italian grandpa and no one makes polenta like he did.
I have to admit I bought a box of instant polenta - but then I added butter and milk which improved it immeasurably. If you make it, be sure to get the San Marzano tomatoes. I spent more on the tomatoes than I did on the beef! She is one of my D’s favorite food bloggers too.
Hmm, I went to my doctor yesterday (actually the lady who was covering for my PCP), and asked about getting the abdominal aortic ultrasound that @MichaelNKat recommended. She said that is not something that is routinely done, unless you are/were a smoker. She said that if you are having no symptoms, have no masses or issues, that they would not do that. So I wonder if I should call my health insurance provider and ask if they will pay for it as a routine screening, or if I have to have a reason to do it.
I notice that they offer those screenings at places like “LifeLine Screening”, where they do all these preventative screenings in a package that you wouldn’t normally get from your doctor. Has anyone done something like that?
My fiancé asked about it too (thanks, MichaelnKat!) but his cardiologist did an echogram and now he’s going to do a 3 hour stress test (this is after wearing a heart monitor for 24 hours).
I pinned that recipe Sabaray. Looks so delicious. I’ve never made polenta. I would definitely try the instant to try - and yeah to butter and milk.
I need some new bras - maybe I should check HerRoom.
Last night was a 5 mile run and it was tougher than it should have been. I don’t know why, maybe a little bit because I overdressed and was really hot and sweaty. Tonight is a workout with my trainer.
You are all so ambitious with your cooking - I really admire it!
Careful on the ice, deb - that can be scary!
OMG! So many sports bras on HerRoom! How do I choose!? I need pretty good support - hopefully not TMI, but I’m a 36-38C and need something short strapped (I must be build “short” shoulder to under boobs because anything with adjustable straps still doesn’t seem short enough).
@abasket I agree, too many choices! I got verklempt and backed out of the site lol I think you would need to either try them on in the store first or buy several different brands and hope one of them works for you. I didn’t check out their return policy but I bet it’s pretty flexible. Maybe I’ll peruse it again tonight on the Stairmaster : )
Managed to run 10 miles today at an average 9:23 pace, blisters and all. If I can do that for the half marathon, I think I can run the next three in 15 min average or less to qualify for my race, that is, if I got the math right. Of course for a half marathon, I’d think you’d have to stop briefly maybe three times or so for a cup of Gatorade, that adds up.
I think I figured out how I have to train for the next month, and it sounds kind of weird. Just one long run, once a week. Then things like biking and elliptical on the other days, which don’t exacerbate my blisters. Not sure what other good aerobic things to do instead of running (I can’t swim worth a crap, sadly).
Honestly, I don’t know how some of you do marathons! How all the different parts of your body that can hurt, make it through that sort of beating?
I drove 7+ hours today to DC – in my running clothes. The moment I got to my destination I went on a 6+ mile run. Am I becoming obsessed?
It is somewhat bizarre to think that on Saturday I could be walking beside total strangers who I actually know virtually. FallGirl and Bromfield from this thread, and others as well. Anyway – yes, I suspect lots of steps on Saturday, although I doubt our heart rate will be elevated.
Yes, fireandrain, you are obsessed! And it’s a great thing to be obsessed about!
@fireandrain, @FallGirl, @Bromfield and any others - thank you for walking for so many. My heart will be with you.
Seven hours in the car DOES make one want to get out and move!
Another 3 mile run after work. Again, so gray and dull outside I didn’t want to do it, but once out I was fine. I don’t think I ever want to be a “most everyday” runner - I need the variety of other stuff!
Putting a steak on the grill and have a baked potato in the oven - which I’ll eat half of - along with a dollop of my homemade yogurt! (haha - couldn’t get through a post without mentioning yogurt!)
@busdriver11 – way to go! Is your qualifying time 2:29 for the half? I think if you kept up that pace for 10 miles you should be good! How much more time do you have before the big day?
1.1 mile at 4:30 am then I flew to Florida. It was horrible, rainy weather st home and gorgeous here in Ft. Myers. We went to the beach and then at 5:00 I ran 2 1/2 more miles. It wasn’t hot at all. Lots of food around here.
Oiselle has some dresses on their site- new product. It’s the Roga fabric which I love. I ordered one. Not sure if I’ll run in it or just wear it over leggings or something.
No, it’s close to that…2:25 for the half. I always seem to get my math wrong, so I need plenty of slack in there! If I could hang onto that rate for the race, it would be about 2:03…I think…plus hydration breaks. There is one big hill that Bunsen has mentioned, so that could be an issue, however, I always run faster in a race, though. I have only about three weeks to go, so just two more long runs.
