@abasket – how neat about the trail! I certainly find that easy accessibility of a nice place to run makes a huge difference.

@Classof2015 – bravo!

Thanks dmd77!

Definitely helps motivate me having Central Park nearby to run in. There are so many people running, biking, etc. it’s like there’s no excuse not to be active. I used to run in the suburbs, but there was no designated lane so you’re really dodging big SUVs and kids late to school.

Here’s a good thing that happened today (besides the fact that I shook off last night’s crumminess and did some treadmill work first thing this morning).

A while back (I’d say…2 1/2 years ago, maybe?) I was feeling particularly out of shape and large. I was still teaching Group Ex at the time but I decided that I would use D’s P90X3 videos (the 30 min ones) to get some extra workouts in. I did it for a couple of months but ended up with a shoulder injury so I gave up. Fast forward to about a year later (Spring '15) is when I started running - and also “purposeful walking” - and lo and behold dropped about 15 pounds or so.

Anyway, the good thing? Today I happened to be flipping through photos on my Google account and ran across the pics I took when I started the P90X3. One word - OOFAAH! Wow, I feel so much better - and even I will admit that I look way better now. It gives me the motivation to keep up with what I’m doing, and add more of those “purposeful walks” in addition to the runs.

Anyhow. Yay me! (sorry for the brag, I just felt like it! )

That’s not a brag, that’s taking pride in and sharing how far you’ve come! Great job! I still cringe when I look at old photos - it’s true, the camera doesn’t lie!

Feeling normal at last. Swam, ran a little, did the strengthening class with the young’uns.

I’ve lived near a rec path for the last 3 houses, adding up to 14 years. It’s a requirement for any place we live. Hope you get that house, Bunsen, and I understand your enthusiasm, abasket.

Congrats on all the improvement, justamom!

Our dinners have 2 components – meat and veggie. That’s it.

Leaving for the gym soon. …

Thanks, fireandrain. We just have to beat the Chinese moneybags. Just kidding. I am confident they will not touch this place - it is a bit dilapidated, and the location is not in a hot spot. The foreign $$ go after perfect homes or shacks in “perfect” school districts bringing home the bragging rights - telling your relatives that you own a house next to Google or next door to Bill Gates is a big thing. But… we have no school aged kids. The proximity to a major bus route (a HUGE deal - hope to downsize to one car and the “weekend warrior” truck), and the trail that continues along the lake make this place workable. Just checked the walk score - 40+! Ditto bus score. Which means perfect 100 for BB.

Slow flow yoga and then I went to the gym and did a workout on the elliptical (Cybex arc) for 30 minutes. I need to get back to doing strength training and spinning. I haven’t done much in the last two months. My trainer is working at an administrative job at the gym and is only training people from 5pm to 8 pm. That just doesn’t work for me. I’m going to have to find another trainer or start working on my own.

The house sounds great, Bunsen! Gives you so much flexibility in finding a place when you aren’t ruled by school district. I love the sound of the trail!

Lizardly – glad you’re feeling better – that cold really hung on.

Hooray Lizardly! Glad you are feeling better and were able to do all of this exercise.

Multiple likes, @JustaMom5465!

@busdriver11 I did get a new GP, she concurred. I have never heard of bioidenticals?? I wouldn’t even know what to ask for. Yes, it is beyond miserable, it’s ten minute of high temp on the right side of my body, followed by panicky aggression and lastly chills, ALL NIGHT LONG. If anyone has link for bioidenticals that I could send my GP, I would truly appreciate!

^^ their beef with HT is cancer. TBH, cancer risk scares the carp out of me, so I just go with their advice : /

@MichaelNKat thanks for the articles! I must say that exercising during a hotflash causes such an exquisite level of panic-rage-anxiety that I am thankful for my in-home Stairmaster with fan!. It’s a wonder I don’t lose 5 lbs of sweat just from hotflashes! But I know that others here are dealing with real health conditions, no room to complain.

Lizardly happy to see you’re back in the game!

BB, crossing fingers for you if it’s what you both want. If it pans out, you need to start a “BB Flips A House” thread !!!

SalveMater, there is all sorts of dispute on bioidenticals. They did a massive study on HRT (not bioidenticals) many years ago which really scared people. But since then, there are apparently studies that say estrogen along with natural progesterone combined, not just estrogen alone, does not increase cancer risk. But there is definitely plenty to dispute. My first GP claimed that she didn’t believe in taking bioidenticals, my second GP grudgingly admitted that she took them. I don’t have a particularly good link, but I thought someone started a thread on this at cc awhile ago.

One thing to consider is that the number one cause of death in post menopausal women is heart disease, and estrogen does protect against that.

We had huge storms roll through–tornado warnings, wind, lightning, etc. At least the cold front made it here leaving two days of beautiful walking/running weather. I ran 5 miles yesterday and did some jogging/walking today.

We finished off DH’s batch of turkey and bean chili tonight accompanied by a side salad and a glass of wine. I topped the chili bowls with some chopped cilantro, a bit of sharp grated Wisconsin cheddar, pickled jalapenos, a squeeze of lime, and a swirl of sriracha sauce. Perking up our old standby dinners with little bits makes them so much tastier. Dessert was a glass of chocolate milk kefir.

I made my second batch of yogurt last night. It’s still not as thick as I’d prefer, especially after becoming so used to eating Greek style yogurt. I broke down and ordered some freeze dried yogurt starter. Can’t wait to try that.

That sounds like GREAT chili! The Instapot chili is fairly thick just done the standard 8 hours. I used an 8oz. Stonyfield whole milk plain yogurt for my starter - and whole milk for the milk portion.

Today was another busy work day + a meeting at the place where I have a community garden. My steps were low and a rare occurrence - I didn’t even have 30 minutes of “activity” - my minimum. Pathetic! When I got home at 8 it was too late to do anything outside- and I don’t have any fitness equipment at home besides weights. So…I literally jogged around the house, up and down two flights of stairs and did probably 300 jumping jacks and skater moves to get not only my activity minutes (+ extra!) and surprisingly, met my step minimum plus a little.

It truly makes me feel like a lout if I don’t get my minimums!

PlantMom, do you strain your yogurt?

^^ Yes, I was going to ask that. You can use cheesecloth or some people recommend coffee filters!

I didn’t need to strain my Instapot yogurt - once it was refrigerated it firmed up even more.
