Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

OK, then, I guess I better start searching Amazon for compression socks. There was just a thread on them, if I recall.

Thank you, @fireandrain. If I can help just one person avoid misery, I’ll feel better.

dmd77- I believe the course for the three 5Ks I’ll doing in July are “mostly flat”. I hope that’s actually mostly flat and not like the “gentle rolling hills” they described in the half they put on that I did last August. I guess we’ll see!

And fireandrain, I just bought my second batch of compression socks from procompression. I wait until I have a buy one, get one free discount code. They just had one for Memorial Day. I believe the code was MDAY17. I like the calf ones they have, but I don’t like the shorter ones. They also have sleeves, and I just bought my first set of those to try.

Would you pay $45 extra to stay in this hotel room? It’s an intriguing concept.

[Hilton Debuts Hotel Room That Doubles As a Private Gym](http://www.shape.com/lifestyle/fit-getaways/hilton-debuts-hotel-room-doubles-private-gym)

I’m kind of torn between thinking this is a pretty cool idea and being disgusted about having to sleep where people have been sweating all over everything.

Would I pay it? Probably not. Is it cool? Absolutely if it is kept in great working condition. I would feel better about me sweating on the same equipment as opposed to the numerous people a day who sweat on the public equipment. I imagine that cleaning the equipment would become a housekeeping daily task as well.

It’s not just sweating on the gym equipment, it’s sweating on the bed, the pillows, the carpet, the tv remote, and everything else. I realize hotel rooms are not the cleanest places, but there’s a reason locker rooms smell like locker rooms, and I don’t want my hotel room smelling like that.

And I wonder how soundproof the rooms are. Someone in the next room or above me blasting a workout video or slamming a medicine ball on the floor at 2am would not make me happy.

Hilton finally caught up with Westin… We stayed in a Westin room with a treadmill and other gym fixings - nope. Agree with NRE about sweat and other issues.

^^^That last paragraph totally makes sense. That would not be pleasant!

When I use a hotel fitness center I come back to the room fully sweaty - so I’d get the remote etc. sweaty whether I’m exercising in or out of the room!

I’m someone who books hotels based upon the gym, either inside the hotel or nearby. No I wouldn’t pay anything extra and probably would want a discount. The equipment is completely useless for my purposes. Why don’t they just spend the extra money and upgrade the hotel gym?

@busdriver11 - you’ve sold me on getting my H compression socks for our flight to Europe from the west coast. I wear compression socks because my feet swell easily when I travel but he has never used them. I also got my athlete D a pair but she felt the pair I bought didn’t feel like enough compression so she will look for a different brand. She has low blood pressure plus she also swells easily when just eating foods with low sodium.

The clientele that want gyms in their hotel rooms has to be a fairly low percentage. And most of the ones that do, I’d think they’d want a serious gym.

I just want to point out the fact that with many hotel gyms, and it’s definitely the case with this Hilton room in the picture, what’s the point of a pull-up bar where you can’t get your chin over the bar without hitting your head on the ceiling, let alone other exercises you cannot do with it?

Also, a popular exercise with the medicine balls is throwing them up against a wall, 9-10’ in the air (i.e.,“Wall Balls.”). The ceiling height is too low and I doubt your neighbor in the next room wants you throwing balls against the wall at 7:00 AM in the morning. :))

Sorry, I haven’t finished my morning cup of coffee yet.

1 week from tomorrow is my first marathon since November 2013. I’m tapering, which I’ve sort of forgotten how to do!

Do you have to travel for this marathon? And I have to ask because I was thinking about it…what # is the streak at?? (knocking on wood)

Yes. We are taking our travel trailer (small) for the first time in 5 years! The race is in West Virginia and goes into Kentucky. It will be hot and very hilly. Not sure what I was thinking…

The streak will hit 700 days tomorrow! It will end at some point- but not today!

700 - buy a donut today (National Donut Day!) to celebrate with tomorrow. That’s amazing.

Oh- I bought donuts! I had my annual physical at 7 am this morning and after it I headed right to Krispy Kreme and got donuts for my staff (and me)!

I’m excited for you, MOWC!!!

I’m kind of bummed I’m not doing the marathon training this year and I need to wait until August for the half training to start. Marathon training started this morning, and I realized when I got out of bed this morning that if I were doing that again, I would have already had my run and breakfast done. It’s now 6:30 and I still haven’t gone on that run (and am putting it off until tomorrow). I need to just make myself get up in the morning and do it.

Thanks. With our weather, you preetty much have to get out early or it’s just too hot.

MOfWC, you WILL tame that beast!

Simply amazing:
