Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I know I should do this, abasket. I’m thinking about carrying one of those small, flexible coolers that keep things cool for a long time, as I’d say less than half our hotels have refrigerators. I think there might be one called the Yetti? But it’s one more thing to drag around, so it’s got to be compact. I like when we have a Whole Foods nearby, that helps a lot.

The soft-sided Yeti coolers work quite well, especially of you need to keep something cool for a long time. We also have a hard-sided Yeti, which is almost 10 years old. It works like a charm.

Good luck to your H @busdriver11.

I don’t talk about it much (I think) but my H has an autoimmune disease and had a heart attack before he was 50. The good news is that the longer we are away from the diagnosis they better things become. We get used to the new normal.

Because of that and this community I am not the same person health wise. I don’t even recognize that person. The person I am today does something physical every day and most days I do 2 things. I can’t say that eating is the best always but I try not to obsess about a number but about being healthy.

My health crazed, athletic D got a bit of bad news this week. She sees a specialist next week. I am hoping she hasn’t inherited her fathers genes and that things are a false alarm. Good thoughts for her would be appreciated.

^^^^ For sure. Hoping for the best.

Here, too - rooting for your daughter.

Sending good vibes to your D @deb922 - hope you get some answers sooner rather than later.

Fingers crossed for deb’s daughter. And sending good health vibes to busdriver’s H.

Thanks to all for the kind wishes. I am hoping things go well for deb’s daughter, too. I feel maybe it is actually better for bad things to happen to us instead of our spouses and children, it would be easier, I think. I get what deb is saying about the “new normal”. I suppose after awhile, your brain just adjusts to that, especially if things get better.

Good outcome wishes for Deb’s D and Busdriver’s H.

I’m definitely going to look into that Yeti that Bromfield vouches for. They seem really expensive, though, but if they last a long time it’s worth it.

Late to this discussion. Busdriver, I am having similar problems with traveling and eating right and it’s not over yet. I like the books mentioned, especially the Pollan book. I try to choose unprocessed/lightly foods and a little protein at every meal and not worry about counting calories. (But then having done that, I choose dessert and it gets me into trouble! And waiting too long to eat until I am terribly hungry and eat too much.)

Sending the good thoughts to deb’s D and busdriver’s H.

Busdriver–hard-sided Yeti cooler I have is 10 years old. Still keeps food cold and looks like new. It is pricey but it lasts.

@busdriver11 - thoughts and prayers for your H. soon after my ex was diagnosed and treated for Stage IV cancer, every sore throat would leave us at 2 am thinking “is this it? Is it back?” Then you get to a new normal like you said. Hugs.

@deb22 - fingers crossed for your DD.

On the fitness front, not much to report except I signed up for a 10k in the fall. Need a race for motivation.

Wedding went well! Had beautiful weather.

Congrats, @Classof2015!

A fitness tracker co bites the dust:

Thanks, BunsenBurner! He is a wonderful man. So happy I found him.

I have a good runner friend who loved her Jawbone at one time.

Wow, classof2015, that’s as difficult as it gets. I’ll stop over stressing, it seems trivial in comparison.

Wonderful about the wedding!

Hey Bus if it makes you stress less, good, but worry is worry - when you love someone, anything is worrisome. Thanks for the good wishes.
