Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

@busyparent you did it once - and recently - you can get there again! Look at that food your considering eating and say , “is this as worthy as that gelato in Italy?” - gotta believe the answer is no!!

Post 2:
Arg, phone typing ‘look at the food’ correction to post 1

I am a yo yo lose, gain 40-50 pounds kind of person. When I am at a low weight I get a lot of ‘oh you’ve lost weight and look great’. Never has anyone said after regaining ‘wow, you’ve regained the weight and look terrible’.

Now when people say I’ve lost weight I say ‘it isn’t lost, it lives in my head and might come back’.

Post 3:
I was anorexic in college and lost a lot of weight and many people said I looked great.

One person said to me ‘I have a history of anorexia and you have lost lots of weight. Are you ok? Are you eating enough’

I denied the problem but am still thankful that she cared enough to ask

Post final:
I appreciate the sharing of others about this. Some people can eat a doughnut and go about their day without thinking of another doughnut. If I eat a doughnut, I will want another, and then I will want some salty chips to counter the sugar and then …

Sounds like the kids’ story book.

You know your own story @busyparent. That is so important to the equation of making a change.

Thank you abasket. Yes, I am determined not to regain my weight back and it helps me to think about the others here who struggle and post. I do want to be like you all who are succeeding one day at a time.

One more thing, @momofwildchild identifies herself as a runner. I like that, and was telling myself when a bad food choice was in front of me, ‘no, I am a healthy eater’. This is something I am doing again. Mental exercise for me.

^^^^That’s wonderful! Great approach.

I make it a point never to make unsolicited comments about someone’s weight or body composition based appearance. Even “compliments” about weight loss can send a negative message that ties appearance to self-value. With my clients who are seeking to lose weight or change body composition, I focus on objective goals and measures of achieving them and how they are feeling. Never about how they look. The latter is a minefield for so many reasons.

I saw a sports medicine doctor yesterday. He said it’s an obvious diagnosis - posterior tibial tendinopathy. He said it’s a little unusual for the pain to be as high up as it is, but he’s still sure. He showed me how my ankles tend to roll inward when I walk, and that puts stress on the tendon, especially when I run. He’s prescribing PT and steroid patch/electric current, in addition to what I’m already doing. He said I will be able to run again, but it may take a little while.

He said I don’t need an MRI. @Knowsstuff had already told me that, thank goodness, so I didn’t waste the money! It’s a good lesson to get a second opinion when your PCP advises expensive procedures!

Glad you have a diagnosis ML and hope your recovery is uneventful.

A bit over 8 miles for me this morning.

Wishing @makemesmart all the good vibes this weekend! Hope the weather gods smile on you.

Snow! Ugh!

Too soon, Mother Nature, too soon…

^Ha, I’m thinking, “Why hasn’t it snowed yet?”

I’d rather have snow than fires…again. Smoky today in Northern California.

That is a scary situation, @sushiritto. Hope you’re not in harm’s way.

Thanks for the thoughts.

The fires are in Butte County (near Chico) about 2-3 hours from the Bay Area. Frightening for folks up there. I know a couple of neighborhood kids who attend Chico State, so I hope they’re OK.

But, the air quality is terrible here. Being sensitive to environmental conditions, like smoke and allergens, I may have to curtail my workout this evening. My gym is a large industrial space with a rollup door, which I will definitely keep closed tonight and just hope for the best. First world problems, I know.

Chilly morning here today with some strong winds - I think the wind chill was in the 20’s. Slow, social 6.5 miles followed by a walk with the pups. Time to do some meal planning and get to the store. Maybe a nap later.

@sabaray What time did your group shove off for this mornings run? Are you a morning person?

@sabaray
Thank you!

Terrible rainy day yesterday, luckily all the rain is gone by the morning! A beautiful autumn day! 40+ F, which I was told is a good temp for long run. I finished in 2hr 25 min, beat my goal of 2hr 30! The marathon runners were beside us towards the last several miles! How amazing they ran! So glad it is over though. Lol

@Midwest67 - we run at 5 am usually. That means a wake up at 4. I wasn’t always a morning person!

Those sound like great conditions, @makemesmart - congratulations on challenging yourself and achieving your goal! Great job.
