No worries. As I mentioned pages and pages ago, my program is great for my “exercise ADD.” I get bored easily.
Saturday’s are REALLY long in the gym. And my program typically doesn’t include bench press, which I always work into my program. So even longer today. Some strength work and a lot of different types of conditioning work.
I’ve been a little behind with programming since last week, but I finally caught up and tomorrow may actually be a run only day. Maybe I’ll squeeze in some gym time. ?♂️
Uh…some of us here are “older” - I am 62. I don’t think those people are old at all.Maybe because some of the folks I run with are my age or more and they finish marathons, go to boot camp, etc.
The gym that I belong to isn’t large and doesn’t have a lot of members. And the majority of the members are from the “younger” 25-30 year old segment of the population.
About that age thing. My normal gym is a JCC, like a YMCA, multiage and not just super fit people, but with a small, intense cadre of Ironman athletes due to our outstanding swim coaches. I like the diversity.
But I’ll confess I go to a boutique spin studio, too, and love to mix it up with the young folks who go there.
@Midwest67, I am so impressed with your weightlifting.
Yesterday, I went hiking with a different group from Wisconsin. Nice, friendly bunch of people. We did 15 miles with some nice hills. Mid-hike, we got hit by heavy wet spring snow. Maybe 2 inches. It was annoying to have snow in mid-April, but I had to admit it looked beautiful the way it stuck to the tree branches and plants. Now, please melt.
Actually, I’ve never heard of him. I looked up his CF profile. He’s 5’5" and 178 lbs according to his profile. And 31 years old! He hasn’t hit that “older” stage. I didn’t study Physiology, but there must be some reason why some shorter humans can lift a boatload of weight. There’s a young man in my gym who’s 140-150 lbs and can deadlift 500 lbs.
One of note is that he does use a deadlift bar, which is “cheating” to me. Deadlift bars have some elasticity to them allowing for that first inch or two of lift from off the ground to be inconsequential (i.e., zero weight).
My 30-minute HIIT workout last night involved a lot of barbell and upper body strength work and then I had to finish up with running a fast mile, which was quite humbling. A marathon? Wow. That’s why he’s an elite CF’er and I’m not.
This week, I did goblet squats with 50# on the dumbbell – a high for me. Not only was it difficult to do the reps & sets, it was hard to lug that thing up into position and then hold it. I’m sore today in the shoulders/upper back.
Midwest, congrats on your lifting success. I loved your posts about the new hiking group and the deadlift session. You’re really expanding your comfort zone. Awesome.
I was curious how the Open went for you, @sushiritto, if you don’t mind sharing. I followed along as the workout videos were released. Some of the exercises were familiar to me but I’m still working on pull-ups, so I’ve got a ways to go.
I did OK. I finished in the 50th percentile overall for my age group. I did pretty well on most of them, except for 19.2 and 19.3. Handstand walks and handstand push-ups are a weakness. And when the weights get really heavy, like squat cleans, I can’t keep up with the big boys and girls.
Did you see that @Midwest67 got a strict pull-up? And deadlifted 135#'s? Pretty cool!
