This is a mystery food to me. Half and half is half milk and half cream. Lowfat half and half is half what and half what?

I have the same question about lowfat sour cream. Cream is a very high fat food; that’s why it’s so delicious. In what sense is lowfat sour cream a kind of sour cream or any kind of cream?

lol…I used to use NO FAT Half and Half in my coffee. Then one day I looked at the ingredients. It’s not just extra sugar. Ewww.

My favorite serving size experience was reading on a box with four Cinnabons that it contained seven servings! Seven? Why not eight?

My favorite nutrition label is found on C&C granulated sugar. This is real, no kidding:

I have a good breakfast for you. It’s very healthy and filling. I take one frozen whole grain waffle (Kashi has vanished, so I’m stuck with Eggo), put some peanut butter on top and a big glob of non-fat Greek yogurt. It really sticks with you and you have the fat, protein and carbs. I eat this every workday.

Muesli is very good for breakfast. But it takes while to get used to and make sure you don’t eat before you have to go for an interview. My husband found out the hard way years ago. He only had to blame his BIL and sister afterwards when he did not get the job.

Yesterday I was looking at the label on fresh ravioli at the supermarket. The one with beef and sausage had fewer calories than the one with mushroom filling. Huh?

I’m wary of foods that pretend to be something else. My husband inadvertently bought turkey bacon the other day. When I looked at the long list of ingredients, it was clear that it took a laboratory to make this product taste like something it wasn’t. The fat in bacon was replaced with about 15 other ingredients. At least bacon is bacon, right? I’d rather feed my kids lean, well-done bacon than fake bacon. The same holds true for fake mayonnaise, ice cream, salad dressings, etc. The worst is Olestra - what did I hear that it does - oh yeah - it causes “leakage.” Yikes!

I’m with you, Gourmet.

With those fifteen other ingredients in the turkey bacon, it still doesn’t taste like bacon. Better to have real honest to goodness bacon from time to time, and at other times eat different foods, than to make a practice of eating imitation bacon.

yeap, I do eat real butter. Forget about “I can’t believe it’s not butter” . It has to be butter or else.

Bacon doesn’t even have *that *many calories. I eat one slice whichever weekday my husband makes it (I think it’s Tuesdays) and two on Saturdays. Tastes great!

Turkey bacon? Boy, I have a better news for ya:

LOL and ewww! So when will this hit the grocery store shelves?

Bunsen - You were up late last night! Burning the midnight oil.

Good morning everyone!

So who’s going to the gym today? Or, who’s already been??!!

I confess - it will be a stay-in-day for me today. Lifted weights yesterday and did Pilates. It is pouring here and I am taking a day to drink tea and finish The Help. I did make a big batch of a very healthy minestrone soup and that will be my main meal today. Might have to make some popcorn to go with the book.

So, goofin’ off, but eating healthy :)

Good morning! It was not that late, eddie!

We wanted to go skiing today, but there is rain and slush up in the mountains. So we are going for our usual run later today, as soon as the current downpour turns into a little more manageable drizzle. During our recent runs, I noticed quite a few more people on our usually deserted streets: some dog walkers, some runners, some cell phone yakkers… Good for them!

Here is a newsflash: H bought a treadmill! We went to a furniture store to look at couches and new dining table chairs, but did not like what we saw. There was an exercise eqipment store next door… We now own state of the art, commercial-grade treadmill. And the best part is that it was made locally!

Well, considering I spent 11 hours doing 770 miles in the car yesterday, I will be. Here’s a first for me… I actually brought work-out clothes with me to use in the hotels’ gym (I’m using the term gym here, loosely, as I think it’s just a handful of machines, but hey, it’s a first). I will also say that usually when I make this drive, I’m incredibly sore and stiff the next day, but I woke up feeling rather decent today and I attribute it to my working out, as well as the stretching I’ve been doing after every work out. However, to make up for the high-calorie granola I ate in said car ride yesterday, I may have to do more than my 45 minute cardio workout. Up until yesterday, I’d been to the gym 12/14 days, doing 45 minutes (the day after we went to the Melting Pot, I did an hour) cardio each day, minimum. Will miss tomorrow again, though, as I am NOT a morning workout person and the day will be filled with helping D get moved in before she takes me to the airport.

Very nice, BB! I belong to a health club, which is nice, and not too far from home. I’m pretty good about going, but I’m constantly trying to get the timing right – about when to go that fits in with my schedule. If I don’t go in the morning, I most likely won’t go at all. There are times when having a machine at home would be good. Once in a while H says we should buy one, but since he NEVER exercises, I’m not sure it would be worth the money. Plus, although we have room for it in this house, we’re planning to move in the next year or so, and who knows if we’d have room then.

I’m heading out for a bike ride as soon as I finish breakfast- oatmeal with strawberries, yogurt and honey. We’re due for two weeks of huge rainstorms, so I’d better get a ride in now while it’s still dry. Though I do plan to continue riding in the storms, as usual.

Wait until March and you can by all the exercise equipment you want for a fraction of their original prices on Craig’s list. Many people buy the stuff in January and by then they know it’s just taking up space. DS’s friend explained this to me and procured us several virtually new pieces of equipment last year.

When the equipment is in your home, it’s much easier to fit using it in. And there’s much more guilt when you don’t use it.
