You do lose weight from walking everywhere. I lived in the dorms for two years and didn’t change my eating habits much, nor my exercise habits (or rather lack thereof), and over a year lost about 25 lbs. After going through some depression where I ate myself silly, and then moving too far to walk to campus on a daily basis (taking the bus everyday instead) I gained back all of it. It sucks! I seem to have stabilized at around my high school weight, but I really would like to lose that weight again. Fortunately, I will be living closer to campus next year, so that I can walk to and from, again, plus I will be living by myself and thus can get away from the distracting influence of my roommate, who makes cookies and brings home fast food and soft drinks all the time, (not to mention she works in a restaurant that doesn’t exactly serve the healthiest food, and still weighs like 115 lbs urgh). And I will be living closer to our campus’s gym and can hopefully work out more.
